Just a couple songs from Japan to keep you festive this Sunday.

In other news, Sen no Kaze ni Natte is finally out of the top 50. Let’s hope it stays that way.

Anime Blogger Panel at NYAF! Who’s with me?

Published by Hinano under Conventions, Unsorted

So DS brought up this idea: Let’s run an anime blogger panel at new york anime festival! I thought “eh why, it would be all boring like that ANN panel last year” but then I thought from another point of view… It can be BETTER than the ANN panel cause we don’t need to talk about main stream licensed shit. We can talk about actual blogs that blog about anime, editorials, flames, imoutos, NicoNico memes and the whole thing about starting your shiny new anime blog. Continue Reading »

A follow up to the Pocky sale.

Published by Hinano under Unsorted

So like I said, I did go to Mitsuwa and while we picked up our regular groceries too you couldn’t help but notice the giant Pocky booth right at the entrance to the supermarket. Just in case you pretended not to, there were Japanese girls running around with pocky and/or Pretz (which I don’t like that much) in wine glasses and handing them out to you. Continue Reading »

Evangelion Movie 1.01: A Visual Comparison

Published by Hinano under Unsorted

I’m sure by now everyone’s sick of the Eva movie posts but now that the DVD is finally out (no I didn’t bother watching the cam rip lol) I decided to do a comparison to the retro Eva DVDs that JP had. (I never had Eva DVDs because my Eva episodes were in VivTV and MPEG  10 points if you know what VivTV is. ) I had no idea what this movie consisted of but it’s literally Evangelion episodes 1-6 smushed into 1 hour and 37 minutes that have been completely reanimated with super CG angels! Since just rewatching them in movie form would be boring I figured the most fun thing to do is compare! And boy did the retro waves of 90s animation hit me hard. Massive image flood after the jump! Gather my fellow weeaboos, for there is a sale on POCKY!

Published by Hinano under Unsorted

So if you’re in the New York, NJ area, you might wanna stop by Mitsuwa between April 25th and Cinco de Mayo to load up on boxes of glorious pocky - now up to 30% off!

Last time they had a strawberry fair I bought Strawberry Pocky for really cheap, like 4x cheaper than what you’d get at an anime con dealer’s room. Perhaps I will stop by this Sunday, and stock up on some boxes myself.

Need a phone strap? How about a piece of $hit?

Published by Hinano under Unsorted

This is probably old news to everyone but I recently got myself a new cell phone which finally had a strap hole in it. I’m currently using my company’s mascot as a strap but I wanted to get one of those straps you can use to clean the screen because I have a slider phone and the screen constantly gets dirty. Soo…being a weeaboo that I am I headed over to Strap-Ya which specializes in weeaboo & “kawaii” phone straps from Japan. (Some of these you can get at Kinokuniya though which is why I never purchased from there before.)

Anyway I clicked on one of the sidebar links on the left that said ?? and had a golden poo strap in the photo…and well that’s what I got. It’s not really the concept of golden poo that amuses me, but the titles and taglines that they write all over the page. I don’t know if it’s to be ironic or they figure using humor will hide the fact that they’re telling us overseas people that Japanese are fascinated with pieces of shit to attach to their cell phones. Japan: Chomping at my wallet since 1999.

Published by Hinano under Rants & Raves, Unsorted

Pardon me for this post, I’m trying to make it relevant but it seems my blog is slowly turning into my encounters with all things Japan rather than an anime blog these days due to lack of any good anime to write about. Anyway, when I began watching anime just as all anime fans, the first thing we think of is “I want to purchase merchandise from THIS show!” Needless to say I spent some share of my otaku money on sailormoon chibi figures, shirts, keychains and whatever other nonsense was available from DiC at the time. Nowdays, all I really buy is manga, and as I ranted before, even the funds for that are starting to dry up. But there is one thing that still keeps gnawing at my wallet: DHC. Continue Reading »
