Anime Next Approaches at High Speed!

Published by Hinano under Conventions

So we’re about a week away from Anime Next. This evening I’m gonna gather with fellow panelists so we can make some plans for the eroge/otoge panel happening at Anime Next, Saturday June 21st at 9:30 PM in Panel 1 room. (Hopefully this won’t change but be on the lookout for any schedule adjustments if you’re going to the con.) I’m recycling my cosplay so I’ll be doing Reborn Haru & Shugo Chara Amu once again. (Soul Eater will have to wait till NYAF.) On the topic of cons, NYAF’s having a mascot contest - and I entered! So as a shameless self promo, please vote for me at Anime Next. (At least I think the voting will be at Anime Next?_?) You can see all the contestants here ahead of time. Mine would be the girl with the pink hair and the soy sauce. :P

For those going to ANext, see you next week!

Japan Day 2008: MY kind of convention.

Published by Hinano under Conventions

Even though I got sunburned and even though it was hot as all hell, I quite enjoyed this year’s Japan Day and it really made me think about the whole convention going experience in general. Now I know technically Japan Day isn’t a “convention” but I’m associating it together as it’s an event dedicated to some aspect of Japanese culture, similar to an anime convention. I’d even go as far as saying that this was a lot better than Sakura Matsuri and I’m definitely looking forward to coming back in 2009. Continue Reading »

Japan Day 2008 to rock my soul.

Published by Hinano under Conventions

Well Japan Day is now coming back to a Central Park near you on Sunday June 1st. This year JP and I aren’t apartment hunting so we’ll actually get there on time. It’s on 98th street and 5th ave - right next to the Mt. Sinai medical center. They moved it this year because someone who volunteered last year told me that it got more crowded than they had expected - which I will definitely agree with. Continue Reading »

NYAF Blogger Panel Confirmed!

Published by Hinano under Conventions

After much google talk discussions (and threats, lulz etc.) DS, JP and I are officially signed up to host a panel for NYAF on that Saturday (I think 9/27) afternoon. So those of you who are in the surrounding areas (and you know who you are) better show up  For those coming, I have a buttload of my artwork prints to give out for free! As suggested earlier, I’m also gonna try to hook up a mic to my laptop that I’ll be bringing and try to record the entire thing in mp3 format to upload later so everyone can listen. :)

Anime Blogger Panel at NYAF! Who’s with me?

Published by Hinano under Conventions, Unsorted

So DS brought up this idea: Let’s run an anime blogger panel at new york anime festival! I thought “eh why, it would be all boring like that ANN panel last year” but then I thought from another point of view… It can be BETTER than the ANN panel cause we don’t need to talk about main stream licensed shit. We can talk about actual blogs that blog about anime, editorials, flames, imoutos, NicoNico memes and the whole thing about starting your shiny new anime blog. Continue Reading »

Registration Regrets.

Published by Hinano under Conventions

I have been regretting little by little for registering for Anime Next and after the flood of incoherent teenage brats who flamed my Sakura Matsuri post, the lack of communication from the artist alley, and the fact that the anime next website goes down at least once a day has increased my general downturn on the whole thing. I only registered because someone invited me to help them with a panel on eroge/otome games and at the time I was really excited to help - but now I wish I never agreed to do this. Nothing against the panelists or the panel itself, but frankly I have this disgusted feeling at this whole thing to the point where I don’t want to contribute anything to anyone there. Sakura Matsuri 2008 @ Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

Published by Hinano under Conventions

So as I said yesterday I’d be attending and this was certainly an interesting experience. Although I am sad to say, I have never felt more ashamed to be a cosplayer than I have today. While I came dressed in regular clothes, seeing all the weeboos in Kimonos and Narutard cosplay gave me a sinking feeling somewhere in the back of my mind. If it makes things anymore ironic, the majority of the kimono wearing crowd were NOT the Japanese… Continue Reading »
