So DS brought up this idea: Let’s run an anime blogger panel at new york anime festival! I thought “eh why, it would be all boring like that ANN panel last year” but then I thought from another point of view… It can be BETTER than the ANN panel cause we don’t need to talk about main stream licensed shit. We can talk about actual blogs that blog about anime, editorials, flames, imoutos, NicoNico memes and the whole thing about starting your shiny new anime blog. Continue Reading »

I have been
regretting little by little for registering for Anime Next and after the flood of incoherent teenage brats who flamed my Sakura Matsuri post, the lack of communication from the artist alley, and the fact that the anime next website goes down at least once a day has increased my general downturn on the whole thing. I only registered because someone invited me to help them with a panel on eroge/otome games and at the time I was really excited to help - but now I wish I never agreed to do this. Nothing against the panelists or the panel itself, but frankly I have this disgusted feeling at this whole thing to the point where I don’t want to contribute anything to anyone there. So as I said yesterday I’d be attending and this was certainly an interesting experience. Although I am sad to say, I have never felt more ashamed to be a cosplayer than I have today. While I came dressed in regular clothes, seeing all the weeboos in Kimonos and Narutard cosplay gave me a sinking feeling somewhere in the back of my mind. If it makes things anymore ironic, the majority of the kimono wearing crowd were NOT the Japanese… Continue Reading »

And I’m
talking about the one in Brooklyn not Washington D.C. I’ve never gone to this before so I figured there’s a first time for everything. It will take place this weekend in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. I’m only going for 1 day (tomorrow) but if you are able to make it you will get a chance to meet me, JP and DS (which you can also do if you actually attend all the local anime cons too lol.) While you’re at it, if you wish to cosplay outside an anime con (oh god forbid) you can win “goodies” from the guy walking around from New York Anime Festival. (I wish he’d give out free 1 day passes but that’s besides the point.) Anyway I’ll probably have photos and coverage once I return - but mainly I’m looking forward to the “photo op with giant sushi pillows”.

…why in the
hell are they $40 for a Saturday only attendance? That’s $10 more than New York Comic Con! I can’t see how this is justifiable when the NYCC probably has a lot more dealers/events/people that require more costs…than NYAF which has a lot less and a lot less content to begin with. Not that NYCC was exciting for me due to lack of Anime related content, but NYAF is pretty bare boney in itself. Last year I left the con feeling kinda let down because things closed early but I know that’s just because that’s how the Javitz center works. So with all of this in mind why the price jack? I had seriously thought about going to this con but I can’t see a justification of paying $40 to go for 1 day unless they get something as equally or more awesome as T.M.Revolution (B’z anyone?) The way they’ve made it is that attending for 3 days you get a MUCH better deal - but since this is only the con’s 2nd year, I don’t really find myself wanting to attend all 3 days. (Especially when last year a lot of panels/events repeated from Friday to Saturday anyway.) I really hope NYAF staff considers lowering the price or they may find a big attendance drop this year. My Anime Next 3 day pass was $40 - and I have to pay the same for a 1 day con that ends at 8?
Edit: Just got a response from the staff blogger:
This year’s NYAF will be running much longer than last year’s. While most events wrapped up at 7 in ‘07, we’ll be keeping panels, screenings, and special events on until 10 this year. If you need to wait and see, though, that’s cool. We’ll be announcing guests and programming beginning in June.
Alrighty then I guess I can see where that extra $10 comes from. I’ll wait and see what they bring out in their programming before making my purchase though.

Just for
the record - Saturday is the only day I’ve attended and that’s it for me. My brain, ears and toes can take no more of the insanity. I really wish I could have met a lot more people than I did, but it goes to show you that if you really want to meet someone - get their cell phone number. Meeting up at a place or hoping to catch them at XYZ is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Alright so in the morning we had our last bag of Hotcakes, dressed up in our Reborn gear and headed off to the Javitz center. Continue Reading »

This
weekend I was in Manhattan’s garment district trying to get some ribbon to complete our Reborn cosplay for New York Comic Con happening this weekend. Anyway for god knows what reason the Garment District has their own little Blue Law and every freaking store (except the bead ones) was closed. So now I am ribbon-less and can’t do my Reborn cosplay for the con. So I throw out a question to fellow New Yorkers - is there another place I can get ribbon at?? Or do I have to run like the wind after work hoping one of these stores will be open?
If I can’t get ribbons I may have to revive my Shugo Chara cosplay, but that’s gonna suck since I’ll have to carry our wigs and then put them on in a bathroom somewhere at the Javitz Center (because I’m not wearing a bright pink wig in the middle of the subway. I did that once and all the lolis and shotas couldn’t take their eyes off me
) Anyway if you’re going I’m only going to be there Saturday with JP. I know my usual con buddy is gonna be there and perhaps if we have time before the T.M. Revolution concert we can all have some Shabu Shabu for dinner.
