Cafe Zaiya Owner Dies in a Fire.

I never thought I’d be using this phrase outside of my cynical jokes but it’s a sad day for Cafe Zaiya.
The owner Hirokazu Sano, died in a flame that engulfed his house. By some twist of fate his wife and kids were on a vacation in Japan so they are safe. That’s too bad considering that Cafe Zaiya just opened up another store (Cafe Zest) in Midtown. One of my co-workers said he saw the man once during Zaiya’s after hours.
That’s a shame, I hope this doesn’t change things for the way Zaiya is run, it’s one of my favorite Japanese places to eat.

This is very sad news. My condolences to his family and the employees of Cafe Zaiya.
That sucks D:
I’m glad they opened a new store because it’s freaking crowded in their other one. Too bad it’s still freaking far for my west side office-sitting butt to make reasonable lunch runs.
And wth! 50% off! last weekend! Dang.
omo> if you work in manhattan why don’t you ever have lunch with JP and I? Stop being a hikkikomori!
It’s very sad news, indeed. My condolences to his family. I go there to enjoy their mochi donuts and cheese domes.
Wow, you would get to see omo in real life! Take pictures!
Make him cosplay.
Wait, you guys work at Manhattan? We should get together for lunch some days.
jp usually works on long island but he comes to the city usually at least once a week
He died in a fire.
I need an emoticon to express how this makes me feel.
Oh no! I love Cafe Zaiya! That’s very sad. I also hope it doesn’t change the way it’s run there.
Hi Hinano,
I just found your blog randomly while searching for something I recently ate at Cafe Zaiya and was so sad to read this post - what horrible news. I have been a regular Cafe Zaiya customer for at least 6 years now and it’s one of my absolute favorite places to relax and read manga and talk to my friends - I can’t imagine life without my usual mornings there for coffee. I say we all enjoy a meal there in his honor!
