Seigi no Mikata - 01

Published by Hinano at 3:22 pm under First Impressions, Seigi no Mikata

I don’t plan to pick up much dramas this season but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this one. For me the best part of a drama is comedy, and if possible some romance. Also any drama with a school life setting is a plus for me because those tend to be the most amusing. I’m also not sure whether I want to actually BLOG this drama rather than just simply watch it. I noticed some of my drama posts don’t get much of a response so if people aren’t really interested I may just watch it for my own enjoyment.

I’ll do a brief intro to this drama and I guess you guys just let me know if you’re interested in me blogging this. Again I do enjoy the drama and I can just watch it without blogging it. So anyway the story is about 2 sisters, Makiko (older) and Youko (younger). There’s multiple dramas called “Seigi no Mikata” but the others I believe are cop dramas while this is pure comedy. Basically Makiko acts like the world revolves around her going completely against Japanese culture of keeping to yourself and not bothering those around her.

Her parents think she’s oh so wonderful and pretty (actually I think she’s ugly but anyway) and the neighbors praise her mother all the time. That’s why they let her do whatever the hell she wants, but the only one who knows the “hard truth” is her sister Youko. Ever since they were little she’s used her sister to be a “bait” for all the mans she fell in love with  She would also do cruel things to her. In fact early in the episode she tells Youko’s boyfriend that Youko was busy taking a shit. After this he breaks up with her lol.

At one point some asshole steals Makiko’s lunch from her one day when they had those special time lunch give aways or whatnot. Soo Makiko makes Youko buy her the lunch (to which Youko has to end up begging some guy to give it to her), and on the way home she’s followed by a stalker pervert. She gets a call from Makiko complaining that her “lunch” isn’t there on time and Youko tells her she’s being followed. The stalker jumps on Youko and begins to choke her, and just then Makiko comes and stuns him with tazer

Once she realizes the pervert is that same guy who stole lunch from her, she tazers him again LOL. After that she police gives her an award and the neighbors call her an “ally of justice” while the only reason she did all of that is because she wanted her lunch. (Did I mention she’s not only a bitch she’s a freaking glutton? LOL) She threw a fit at a restaurant because she found a hair in her meatballs lol.

Anyway thanks to this Youko’s life is generally in chaos and she’s given up trying to get a boyfriend again despite a “popular” boy always talking to her and calling her “weird.” She later finds out that the guy who dumped her early on was expelled because he got 3 girls at school preggo lol. Oh well I guess that was a blessing in disguise for Youko

Upcoming Attractions: Makiko uses Youko to get another man for her and Youko’s had enough.

I enjoyed this, too. I thought Yamada Yu was oh-so-perfect as the horrible elder sister — beautiful in a top model sort of way (i.e., not that pretty, really). Yamada-san actually is a model, and also voiced the heroine in Paradise Kiss. Shida Mirai as the younger sister is clearly turning into a real comedienne, with verbal and physical comedy. I loved her a couple of years ago in the far from comic 14sai no Haha, and she’s showing a different side of her talent here.

Shida Mirai also played Megu in Tantei Gakuen Q a year ago, and she showed off some comedic talent there. I’d only seen her in pretty heavy dramas before.

Blog about it anyway! Be defiant! Also, because I’m interested enough to read about it, and it sounds funny, but don’t want to take up too much space on my HD with big honkin’ Jdrama files.

I mean, Mass Effect PC takes up a lot of virtual memory. Seriously.

K so I watched this what? Three days ago or something? (when it got released) I LOVED IT! lol Yamada Yu as the bad sister was just a match maid in heaven. Shida Mirai is once again very versatile (She was a 14 year old pregnant girl in 14 sai no haha). I’d love it if you can blog it too since it doesn’t seem to be too hot on the ratings side, at least if it gets blogged by Hinano I wouldn’t pity it as much. It deserves so much more recognition than what its really getting.

hashi> thanks for the info! I knew her voice rang a bell. Also the little sister looked familiar! I only saw 1 ep of 14 year old mom (i don’t like those kind of depressing dramas).

Ivy> Haha thanks for the input I’ll keep going. I just hope it keeps being funny and doesn’t turn into a wreck like Kimi Hannin Janai Yo ne did

I always look forward to your drama posts (regardless of it’s a rave or a rant) so I hope you do blog it. Most of the time I use your posts as guides to see if I end up watching the episode (think Zettai Kareshi…..or wait, maybe don’t think about it  )

Anyhow, appreciate the drama updates! When anime sucks, dramas FTW

I watched this on TV by accident and it was really fun. Will keep following this probably, escpecially since this anime season is really weak.

Mirai will be a very popular actress soon I think. She acts really good, already in Joou no Kyoushitsu …. have you seen that one? it’s just awesome. Poor Mirai always has to be the one being picked on

Most anime fans don’t know what they’re missing by ignoring dramas completely

Blog it cause it sounds like a blast! I might watch it now that I read about it. (That happens quite a lot for me really…) Heh heh… :3

Sides- if I’m an idiot and miss any of the eps. then I can just turn to you for helpers! -lazy lazy girly- XD

Actually, she threw a fit because she had one less meatball than the rest of her family… her dad wasn’t planning on saying anything about the hair, but because she wanted more meatballs, she decided to bring it up. :D
This drama is absolutely amazing and I love the cast… it looks like it’ll be a good one :)
(by the way, your blogs are always amazing!)

 This sounds like a fun show! Your blog entries have had me watching several doramas (Proposal Daisakusen) and avoiding others (Zettai Kareshi) so I say go for it.

Oh, please blog this. Dramas are awesome, more people need to be paying attention to them, and this one sounds like fun.

  14. Hinano UNITED STATESon 13 Jul 2008 at 1:09 pm

well since there seems to be an interest I guess I’ll blog this haha.
I forgot what day it actually aired (wednesday I think?)

So Seigi no Mikata is a drama now, neat. I read some of the manga back in the day and really liked it, really ironic how every single selfish, rude thing the elder sister does ends up succeeding towards the greater good.
Anyway, good stuff, but never thought it would get adapted.

I didn’t know this was a manga

I am also going to follow that dorama (if I ever did out some time to finally end all the last season ones). After reading your post I think it will be worthwhile :)

I am sooooo in love with this drama! And don’t set my head on fire when I say this but is it possible for me to get english subs? I’ve been looking everywhere I can think of. I really wanna watch this but I don’t understand what they’re saying and there are no subs!

Please blog this… i really enjoyed the first episode but i didn’t get the whole thing since I couldn’t understand what they were saying… i just based everything on what i saw and i guess i was near perfect…. but i really do want to understand what they are saying to fully enjoy it…. It doesn’t hurt that Kanata Hongo is in it as well and I find the younger sister oh so adorable…. I’m not a fan of Yamada Yu though.. I don’t find her pretty in any way….
