Zettai Kareshi - 06
Someone
made a comment on my previous posts bringing up a good point that the drama itself isn’t that awful and it’s pretty realistic. I responded saying that I completely agree and if I was in Riko’s situation I don’t know if I could take a robot man seriously either. I mean after a while the hotness factor wears off and the fact that he’s in your face all the time could get pretty annoying. You also start to think like “well I don’t really have a future with him, and this isn’t Chobits” so of course you’d get annoyed when he cockblocks your relationships with other men.
However the majority of us watching this drama are watching it because we read the manga. We liked the “fantasy shoujo relationship” between Night and Riko. We wanted to see them get close and dokidoki and we wanted Soshi to be that childhood friend who was always “watching over” Riko rather than suddenly being a hindrance to Riko’s already poor relationship with Night. As a manga adaptation this drama is a failure but as a stand alone drama, I guess it’s not so bad after all.
So with my manga fangirl rage feelings aside (because let’s face it, at this point the drama went East and the manga’s to the West so there’s no hope comparing the two anymore) I will attempt to blog this drama as a stand alone story from here on. Stand alone story aside, I still feel Riko is a brat. I mean she’s even pretty immature to her own father. I realize her dad’s being an annoying strict Japanese man that he is, but the fact that instead of being mature and facing her problems, she grabs her shit and runs off like some 12 year old who got grounded for coming home late.
It’s so immature and frankly Riko’s entire character just annoys me. If she’s supposed to be more mature than the manga Riko, why is she still acting like they’re the same age?
Night. I like Night. I like the fact that he’s becoming more human. Unfortunately in this story, if he becomes more human they can’t sell him as a sex toy - cause sex toys aren’t supposed to have feelings. Now that Gaku’s boss discovered this they’re gonna try to prevent it from further developing or they will scrap Night all together.
Soshi. All of a sudden Soshi has these great feelings for Riko even though he’s been joking about it and denying it for the last 3 eps. At the end of the episode, Riko almost passes out due to like no sleep for the last 3 days (because she kept running off to work and playing footsie with Soshi). Soshi catches her and then immediately hugs her. No words nothing said etc. Mika. Mika is still trying to hit on Night with no results. Well I hate her more than Riko. I don’t care what her past relationships were like, she’s still a whore in my eyes.
Also, Riko’s mom is such a cougar. Every man she sees she thinks is hot. LOL.
Upcoming Attractions: Soshi’s ex shows up and something happens to Riko..?

For me this drama stopped being an adaptation of the manga the moment Night became kind of secondary character.

But anyway, with every episode I dislike Riko more and more, OK the father is strict and all but he is you’re father, that’s his “job,” and the moment someone tells her that he is doing it because he loves her she has to give the “you’re a robot, you saying that because of your programing” line instead of facing up to her mistake.
Oh, Mika will always be the whore of the series, no matter what, and Soshi is a man-whore as well.
yea isn’t she such a brat?? I was hoping Night would slap her but at least he raised his voice at her. xD
I clicked hoping to see more hot manly chests.
Hinano> I know. I kept expecting the dad or the mom to slap her but the slap never came, so Night raising his voice at her came as a wonderful gift. XD
Thanks for the discussion between manga adaptation and standalone drama. I think you hit it on the head because I’m one of the few who didn’t read the manga and, consequently, didn’t think the drama was that bad either.
the manga was more of a “shoujo fantasy” while the drama tries to be somewhat realistic. I honestly wish they just made a drama about a robot man and changed names & situations around to make it seem “like ZK” but not a direct copy… I think that would have made a lot of ZK manga fans happier ^^;
I had to drop this series. I just don’t have the energy to deal with a main character whom I want to punch in the face every episode. And that’s what Riiko became here, no matter if I compare the manga to the series or judge it on it’s own. Soshi and Night both deserve better.
At least the Riko in Ryokiteki na Kanojo mellowed out in ep 3(and she hasn’t done any “cockblocking” since ep. 2… though the story doesn’t have Minami/Saburo focus these days, anyhow). I can enjoy that series as a stand alone drama. This one… I just loathe because of the main character and consistent crap writing.
If this drama were to be considered “realistically” even as a completely seperate entity from the manga, the entire drama falls apart immediately. Why the hell would a “chastity zealot” spend a million dollars for an advanced sextoy, which she only finds a hinderance to everything in her life anyhow? That’s the least realistic premise I’ve ever heard! The premise only makes sense if she has a strong enough emotional attachment to him to justify keeping him around. She obviously doesn’t, since she does nothing but complain and get mad at him even when she signs the contract. So the writers have completely failed to justify both the actions of their main character and their entire plot from the beginning. That’s a huge failure for any drama.
So if he cockblocks her now… I have zero sympathy for somone who could have gotten rid of him back in the second episode but instead decided that she was willing to pay the rest of her life to keep him around, even though she didn’t like him. If that kind of commitment is something she’d just make spur of the moment for no good reason, she REALLY has to be a completely retarded asshat. She wasn’t wowed by the “hotness” or even remotely interested in him, so she had no business entering into the contract. Since he wasn’t even self-aware at the time, it wouldn’t have made any difference for her data to be erased and some new latex put on his chassis. It’s shit writing, imo. Period.
I think the problem is one of the writers wants to follow the manga while someone else wants to create their own story and to please everyone they try to do both at the same time - resulting in the failure you basically described
Nipples, chests, cockblocking.. just another day on Hinano’s board.
I don’t watch this so I can contribute no opinion, but his nipples are lopsided and I felt the need to state this. That is all.
I watched the first episode of this and reread the manga for delicious manga Gaku that was missing from the drama
and couldn’t go back to the drama. I don’t really like Night, even though I loved him in the manga. Riko in the manga was classic annoying shoujo girl, but I didn’t mind her so much. She was a kid. This Riko has no excuse for being so annoying.
My only hope is that they might eventually do an anime adaptation of the manga since they did the drama.
Hello!
I’ve read the manga, and yeah.. it’s a whole lot different than the series; but I seem to like the series better because of the reality factor. I mean yeah, Tenjou’s a robot so Soshi would do much better. I actually kind of like Soshi better, because of the fact that he’s a human and that.. I don’t know, I just like his appearance better.
May I ask? Where have you watched episode 6 already? I’ve only seen upto episode 5 with English subtitles since I can’t really understand Japanese.
I’ve seen one on a website (episode 6), but it doesn’t have subtitles.
