Special A - 07
Special A
is like that Monday show that I LEAST look forward to every week. I just don’t know what it is anymore. Maybe the fact that I’m once again like “ohh boy poor Kei, Hikari is still dense as a brick she’ll come around”. Or maybe it’s the fact that the general execution of the show…just bores me? Does anyone else feel this way? Or rather, is anyone watching this show and thinking it’s particularly awesome? What is it that you find awesome about it? I’m having a hard time figuring this out. I look forward to Soul Eater so much Mondays and that’s on the like polar opposite end of my interest for Special A. It’s too bad since I really liked the manga. Maybe some things just don’t transfer quite as well….cause in the manga I really liked the scene of Hikari admitting to Kei that “he may like her”. ![]()

I agree 100% with you. I also look forward to Soul Eater much more than to Special A.
Unlike Soul Eater, where the execution of the show is great from the animation to the BGM, as well as the seiyuus, SA has too many flaws.
Oh well, at least we still have the manga.
I actually like this show and I think it’s awesome.
Maybe it’s the cheesiness factor or it’s probably the fact that this is the one show I can come to enjoy and not use too much brain power. Wait. Those two descriptions can describe Junjou Romatica. YIKES!!!
I was at ep 4 when I suddenly realized I’d rather watch 1 ep from Ouran 13 times then watch 13 eps of Special A.
So after that, I was like: “Fuck it, dropped!”.
I KNEW IT, I should’ve read the manga already!
I understand the jokes and such, but the show doesn’t really hit me. It’s like.. uh, cool, I guess. Then wonder if I should just drop it. Then check the next weeks ep.. gah, I should just stop.
I think the anime’s problem is that while it didn’t get anything completely wrong (hikari’s voice aside), it didn’t get anything right either. Nothing about it is particularly good or bad enough to be fun and it seems to be stuck in this world called meh. Of course it doesn’t help Hikari’s denseness was limited fun the first time round.
I have this happen to me a lot when I’ve read the manga. Especially if the show pretty much follows the script. Unless you’re just super-jazzed about it, it falls flat. I love Claymore so much that the anime, which up until the final few eps followed the script almost exactly, was an addiction for me. I couldn’t wait even though I knew what would happen. Yet for other shows, it’s a drag.
To be honest, I regret reading Soul Eater, because I find myself less excited with the anime now, but I am a fiend for the manga. I stopped reading Nabari No Ou just for that reason, even though the manga heavily (as far as the few chapters I read) differs from the anime.
I dropped this series at episode 2. One reason is cuz the cast and the animation is fucked up. ;-; I’d much rather watch Soul Eater, I agree.
I dunno Sabrina, I’m pumped as hell for the anime version of Soul Eater while I could see myself creating a Special A backlog if I wasn’t blogging it on a weekly basis.
Well… I was suppposed to have dropped it after episode 5 but watched it again when the Saiga Mansion story came out. Sure they were fugly and shit but I hoped that the story would pick up. But I think it’s not. You’re right… The manga is awesome and I get more doki-doki reading it than watching it. The anime is poorly excuted and the ONLY time I ever laughed watching Special A was episode 6 when Hikari punched Kei. Other than that… no.
I watch Soul Eater casually because subs come out so sporadically. My Mondays are usually reserved for Code Geass because that’s when my download is completed.
I feel lonely, because it seems like I’m the only one that likes this show.
It’s not that I HATE this show, or dislike it…I just feel like it’s lacking that OOMPH needed for me to actually enjoy it. I’m kinda
for now. Only reason I’m holding on is in the hopes that once we reach the juicy parts it’ll get better.
maybe because i expect too much from special a i got really disappointed :(.. on the other hand… i really like soul eater and macross frontier.. since i watch them without prior expectation..
but they turned out to be reaaally good
I don’t know what it is with this show. To be honest the manga bored me too, I only picked up the anime because I thought it’d be “easier” to get into it that way, but I’m still bored perhaps even more bored. I think it’s the fact that the two main charcters have boring, stale personalities that have been done before over, and over to the point where they might as well be stock characters. Or it’s the fact that the rest of the S.A. are a little more than wall decorations as it is now since none of them serve that much purpose to the plot except to point out the obvious, gah, even the whole concept of the S.A. is an uninteresting extra, honestly does it even need to exist to tell this story? If the S.A. didn’t exist Hikari would still be aiming for #1, the fact that this anime is named S.A. you’d think it’d serve more of purpose, but maybe I’m jumping the gun maybe it will serve a purpose in the future. As it stands now the entire cast could be murdered in cold blood in the next episode and I wouldn’t shed a tear. Hinano, how is the manga any better? Please tell me, I don’t care enough about the story to worry about spoilers.
What are you TALKING about, this show is awesome! I look forward to it every week. I totally don’t watch it before Itazura because I want to get over the pain faster or anything. Special A always has me in a good mix of comedy and romance, it’s most brilliantly done.

I can’t believe I just typed that. (barf)
The characters are complete idiots and poorly drawn. I still don’t know why I watch it except to say I enjoy visual self-flagellation. I thought episode 6 was an improvement over 2-5 but as of right now, I’m still in it just for the side characters.
The manga bored me at some points too until Hikari & Kei finally got together in vol 7 or whatever it was…but since it was manga I could flip through the boring pages without having to read. In the anime I guess I’m stuck sitting through it all. Also I think they are very poorly drawn in the anime more than the manga xD
I’m not really sure why I’m still watching this, because I feel the same way you do. The characters are kind of meh (Kei and Akira are my favorites, but that’s not saying much), and the humor usually falls flat. I guess I keep hoping it’ll get better … I know if I let myself fall into backlog on this one, I won’t be able to pick it up again
I love this anime and manga. I just wish I could find it easier.
