Junjou Romantica - 06
So some
yaoi fangirls have been stopping by my blog here & there telling me I should stop blogging this show if I don’t like it - which prompted an automatic reaction to continue blogging it just to piss them off. However when I look at it from an objective point of view, I think the feelings I have towards this show or its characters are the same feelings I would if one of the couples was het. At this point I don’t care that Hiro is a guy, even if he was a girl, I’d still wanna slap her and be like “bitch stfu and stop running away from your lover”. So really, the yaoi has nothing to do with it - therefore I will continue to blog this show.
And you know what? Hiro is a dumbass. But hey based on my previous yaoi viewings, it appears most ukes are pretty airheaded (look at Shuichi from Gravitation) and Misaki in our case here. They whine and bitch and moan but they totally want it. The difference in the case of Nowaki and Hiro is that Hiro keeps throwing books. Stop throwing the god damn books!! Then after he throws books he cries and goes I LOVE YOU GOD DAMNIT. Yea we knew that, did you have to be a drama queen about it?
Is BL like supposed to be this way? Cause I can name plenty of other shows where I wanted to slap the heroine in the face myself. I honestly have no issues with Nowaki. Actually I really like him as a character and his seiyuu is great (while Hiro’s seiyuu pisses me off to no end along with his drama queen personality.) After Hiro’s done throwing books like a little girl they make up and do it in the library. Ew. Poor janitors.
Nowaki then moves in with Hiro and while they’re unpacking Hiro discovers a bag full of letters that Nowaki never sent from America. Apparently he just wrote them everytime he was ronery but never bothered sending any. Alright I have to give Nowaki a minus for that one - but then Hiro gets like -10 points for completely ignoring Nowaki when he told him “I’m thinking of going to study abroad” and Hiro replying with “oh cool I’d do that too.” Based on people’s comments a lot of you guys like this pairing? I personally like Usami x Misaki, because it’s more humorous and fun to watch. I’ll take amusing molesting teddy bear loving mans over drama queens any day.

Oh, definitely UsamixMisaki are by far the best pairing, especially when Misaki tries to defend Usami in later chapters.
What!! did they cut the part where Miyagi makes Hiro his bitch, because he had to clean up the mess in the library? Tch, that was the best part of the chapter.
Scheris> LOL I think they mentioned something about it and he had an “ousama” sign but he was speaking so fast I couldn’t catch what he said. That’s probably it though.
I bet it was because of me? even though I don’t watch yaoi and I’m a guy lol I found your blog while I was searching info about Soul Eater, your comments prompted me to watch the anime and I’m so glad I did. Since then I’ve been reading your comments just because they make me laugh until I stumbled upon your comment of that yaoi anime. I don’t hate yaoi but I don’t like it, it’s just not my cup of tea, therefore I avoid it. I simply think it’s stupid to watch something you don’t like, it doesn’t matter how good or bad it is, you will always hate it. Though I can see you’re just a masochist.
Edu> No there were others as well, you’re just the most recent
The thing is I dont like yaoi but I like slapstick comedy…so I have to sacrifice one thing for another
Well as I always say “What ever boats your float!”
You know why I like the Hiroki x Nowaki pairing? Because the story there was so much better presented in the manga.
I agree with you, Hinano, that the Hiroki in the anime is so completely sub-par and needlessly emo. I think a lot of it was because of the seiyuu; in the manga he went through practically the same process and I was all, “hey, that’s believeable, that’s something that I might do, and that’s a personality that has its vulnerabilities just as it has its strength”. In the anime, “drama queen” is perhaps a good description.
The emotional depth just tipped over to emo-ness here, and it’s such a big pity.
And ok, the manga has a lot of plot fallacies too. The aforementioned ignoring Nowaki was totally unbelieveable. But… oh well. What’s drama without some drama?
I also agree that the problem with the yaoi genre is that some of those characters are so irritating. And now Hiroki has been portrayed as just such an irritating character.
They totally didn’t bring out the awesomeness of the character, because Hiroki in the anime is all emo and no depth.
Libraries are usually dirty and dusty so why would you wanna do it there?
And Hiro looks like a girl in those screenies. Tch. Girly men in BL anime, they need to man up and stop being tsuntsun.
I have one yaoi loving friend and out of all the BL manga she’s pushed on me over the years (I’m a Het shoujo/josei manga woman myself), this is pretty much the only one I decided to buy on my own…and it’s all for Usami x Misaki, because they crack me up. I even looked forward to this anime adaptation coming out because of them. Hiro though?
I don’t understand how the yaoi fangirls find him the most developed and sympathetic character, and his relationship with Nowaki the most mature. Ugh. But, I’m still going to watch, so thanks for the levity in your entries!
hezzi> Haha you and me both XD; I personally can’t take BL anime seriously because they don’t really TRY to be serious they just try to create fangirl fodder in my opinion.
Kona> Library is a prominent place to screw in Japanese animus and dramas - or so I’ve noticed lol.
Briar> Ah that explains it. I haven’t read the manga so my impressions are solely based on the anime and I’m glad a manga reader agrees that he really is a drama queen.
I’m already watching “Monochrome Factor” and that’s enough of a weekly dose of homo for me. It’s not as hardcore as I think this one might be. Only a kiss and a lot of girlish giggling scattered across a pretty lame but funny mix of action & drama.
Without the Action & Drama I couldn’t stomach it.
I don’t know about action but this anime definitely has drama.
I wouldn’t mind Hiro’s tsun-tsun-ness if his facade didn’t crumble so easily
Hey! I’m a Yaoi (okay, only JR, but still…) fangirl and i LIKE ur reviews on the anime! It always makes me LOL ^^” Personally, i prefer UsagiXMisaki coz they’re just plain cuter and funnier! Hiro is always so whiny >.<
ilove Usami x Misaki
especially ilove when Usami become jealous

because Misaki when become jealous he act like baby
but when Usami do that he finlly act like in adult .
do not you think
LOL~ just discovered your blog and reviews about this series.
I like your humour
Please keep blogging about it as long as it still interests you. You’ll never know how many other non-BL fans might be compelled to watch it because of your reviews… and *gasp* become BL converts! LOL~
Oh btw, The seiyuu for Nowaki was also the seiyuu for Guts from motherfucking BERSERK!
AWESOME!
LOl whoa shit are you serious
Yeah, He was known as Nobutoshi Hayashi pre-2000 (when he voiced Guts from Berserk), then changed his name to Nobutoshi Canna, which is the name appearing in the Junjou Romantica credits.
and LMAO Mr. emo-DramaQueen’s seiyuu is Kentarou Itou, who voices Renji from bleach AND THE BOSS FROM HAMTARO!! HAHA
The letters part of this episode has to be the most sweetest scene
Nowaki had a reason not to send them- as he said to Hiro how he was scared of giving up if he did send the letter… I mean i guess Nowaki is pretty cute in a way that he gets so motivated by Hiro’s ‘careless’ words which led to him going all the way to USA XD
Nowaki really believes that he needs to become a better man to ‘match’ Hiro and thats just *fan girl squeee*
(can’t explain this feeling :P)
thank you for blogging this couple though you dislike one of the characters ^-^
hope you’ll continue blogging away!
