Naruto Chapter 399
It’s been a while so let me flame a bit (in light of recent events dorama while I’m at it.) Also I can’t believe we’re almost at chapter 400 =_=; Oh woe is us, Uchiha were the poor defenseless clan that Konoha hated! Now the buttsecks relationship between Sasuke and Naruto is stronger because Naruto was ALSO oppressed. Wow Konoha village people are just a bunch of oppressive assholes who gang up on everyone relating to the Uchiha! I bet soon we’ll hear that the reason Naruto was hated was not because he was a Kyuubi container, but because the Kyuubi incident was thought to be caused BY the Uchiha clan!
Oh and in case you weren’t satisfied with feeling pity for Itachi, he was a SPY for Konoha! Oh noes! Poor Itachi, let’s all pity him and how he successfully carried out his mission of being an abusive murdering dickhead!! So let me guess now all of Akatsuki are good guys too right? That Pain and Konan probably have some sad pitiful past too and that despite them killing Jiraiya, they only did it because of their sad background etc. Why is this whole manga turning into 1 giant pity fest? Why can’t there just be HONESTLY EVIL BAD guys? Why are all the bad guys only “misunderstood”? Geez Naruto is turning from a shounen manga into some emofest jousei manga.

I too was sinfully disappointed by where the story seems to be heading… Hell, I was ready to let the Itachi is not so bad thing off as a one off but this is getting ridiculous.
I liked it better when the Uchiha were simply dead, Itachi was evil, and there was no more redemption for the lot. This series is supposede to be Naruto! how much have we actually seen of him for ages now… not much, and he wasn’t doing much during those times…
At times like this, I don’t know why I bother keeping up. I missed out 100 chapters and it seems to have not bothered me in the slightest.
I actually read them all then again I used to actually buy Naruto. Now some sucker probably bought my used copies from Book Off
*headdesk* Why me? (again, this is why One Piece rocks. A lot of the bad guys are just genuinely assholes with no redemptive qualities, other than sheer hilariousness)
I’m usually all for making villains more than one-dimensional-evil but, as said, this is getting ridiculous. No, ridonkulous.
And I SWEAR if Sasuke goes even MORE emo and decides to join Madara on his quest to destroy Konoha I WILL HAVE VENGEANCE.
This doesn’t seem that unlikely at this point
I forgot it was Friday!!! I feel like such a fool. Haven’t read it yet, but don’t feel the old NEED to do so right away anyway. Didn’t the writer state that he didn’t want his manga to go longer than Dragon Ball. I believe he even set an Under 500 chapter limit.
I still can’t imagine how this series will end. I feel sick for the amount of years I craved this stuff; only to be a slacking-slave to it now just to justify the almost decade I’ve put into it.
This is why I’m against ongoing sagas. No more long haul anime: Under 30 and done; unless it’s a guaranteed 2 season-er. No Longer!
Except Naruto, Bleach, Inuyasha, and the others that have already trapped me.

This is how I read it. Madara’s own insecurities led to the downfall of the entire Uchiha clan. Even though he’s whining about things now, it seems clear to me that if he hadn’t gone nuts over not being the 1st and then summoned Kyuubi to kill the 1st then he probably would have been the 2nd and no one ever would have been suspicious of the Uchihas in the first place. Of course the Uchihas were under suspicion after Kyuubi attacked the second time - the last time Kyuubi attacked it was the Uchihas, and apparently Uchiha traitors keep poping up. Rather than trying to prove their loyalty, the Uchiha solution was… to overthrow the village!
This just confirms what I’ve suspected all along. The entire Uchiha clan is full of Emos who can’t compute why no one loves them for their obvious superiority to all things non-Uchiha.
Also, it was clear from the get go that Pain is going to have a dorama story telling us why he’s evil. Everything about his past is about how tragic it all was. And he himself thinks he is doing good with his plan. I feel it’s a far lesser problem with him because unlike Itachi he has always been painted as some sort of misguided Knight Templar type. Making Itachi into a tragic hero at this point is just lame and stupid. Seems like all the evil for being evil characters (The Zombie Twins for example) are dead, evil cause he’s crazy (Deidara) is also dead, leaving us only the evil because of Emo characters.
Hidan and Kakuzu (aka Bill and Ted) were AWESOME. And now they’re dead.
I think we might have accepted Itachi’s “turn-around” if we had been given any bit of a hint earlier, but no. It’s just dropped on us like a ton of bricks. Things like that need foreshadowing, of which we had none. If we had been expecting a revelation and explanation like this we might have accepted his role whole-heartedly, but it was handled in an unskilled way. So, Kishimoto got a WTF from us, but not a good WTF. Heck, Kubo does better WTF moments than that. (*coughisshincough*)
Again, it’s fine and all to not have blatantly evil characters. But if you don’t handle it carefully it blows up in your face and just comes off as cliche and lame. Not to mention just a wee bit deus ex machina. Revelations like this take DEVELOPMENT. Of which we had little to none.

Seriously, Akatsuki was the only real reason I kept reading (and that ever-growing-smaller glimmer of hope that my favorite characters might actually DO something), and they’ve been dropping like flies.
Speaking of which, whatever happened to Hisame?

The only completely ‘evil’ character would be Sicks from Neuro…because Matsui actually said he felt like making on like that.
I’m trying to figure out how the whole Itachi as a spy thing would go, but it’s really not working out in my head.
Konoha leaders: Itachi, the Uchiha are all evil. It’s your mission to kill them. And if you even think of betraying us and warning anybody, we’ll kill your family.
Hmm….that doesn’t seem right at all.
Why should I feel pity for a spy?
I regret all the hours I wasted watching Naruto up to episode 101. Where did I go wrong? At least I skipped 30% of the episodes and 60% of each episode.
My life. Wasted.
The closest thing I get to Naruto nowadays is your blog posts. I just can’t bring myself to touch that series anymore. The anime got stupid and repetitive, and the manga turned into DBZ and Vampire Knight (the manga–haven’t seen the anime)’s unholy lovechild. I just…I read a missed chapter one day and…I got so confused.
Naruto used to be one of my favorite manga, too; honestly, sometimes I can’t figure out if I feel this way now because I “grew up” or because the series really does just suck now.
And then I realized that reading your commentary is just as good as reading the chapter, if not better, so I dropped it.
I can’t believe I thought Naruto was tres-cool before. I feel I should’ve studied instead of spending a part of my life reading this.
I miss when it was just Orochimaru, he was the only ‘real’ bad guy we didn’t need to pity.

Ahhh, I was just laughing my ass off this time….This whole thing is just so ridiculous now…And I can’t believe that 2 years ago I was a fan. i used to think it was “oh so cool” and now, it’s total crap. Why is this happening now? Why is Madara explaining all of that stuff to Sasuke? Why is he even listening? Why is Kishi trying to make Madara look good? Seriously after this chapter, the whole Akatsuki thing just went down the drain for me. Where is the true VILLAIN in this manga? or are they all stupid emo, power-hungry abused children? PLUS the main guy is a stupid wimp who shows up like once a year. Just great. Too bad it took me 2 years to figure that out.
I just read the chapter and maybe I’m over thinking it (which I usually do) but I think Madara may simply be manipulating Sauske. The whole introduction of the name Madara was when Sauske entered the mind/soul (that sewer) where the Kyuubi is, and it remarked a comparison between Sauske & Madara.
Now he mentions that the Kyuubi attack was accidental and blamed on the Uchiha clan, I’m guessing he caused the attack just for this purpose. And that maybe the reason his brother wanted Sauske’s eyes was to either defeat Madara on his own or to prevent Madara from taking them for himself for some yet to be known reason.
Personally I need to believe anything other than the Itachi was good line that’s being peddled at the moment.
The manga is still light years better than the anime. At least at the moment.
Don’t worry I wasted 2 years on Naruto too, and wasted money on Naruto fanart prints that nobody wants to buy. (Maybe I can give them away if I do that panel at NYAF lol)
Sell them like you do your doujinshi. Even if they fold (although they have envelopes made especially for pictures that are supposed to help/deter that.
I don’t quite understand why akatsuki haven’t done some recruiting…
