Sakura Matsuri 2008 @ Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

So as I said yesterday I’d be attending and this was certainly an interesting experience. Although I am sad to say, I have never felt more ashamed to be a cosplayer than I have today. While I came dressed in regular clothes, seeing all the weeboos in Kimonos and Narutard cosplay gave me a sinking feeling somewhere in the back of my mind. If it makes things anymore ironic, the majority of the kimono wearing crowd were NOT the Japanese…

We got there around noon, and the price of admission was $8 per person - $4 if you have a student ID. The gardens are pretty big and the entrance that we came through was actually the one right in front of the cherry tree area. It was really pretty, the first thing I said was “I feel like I’m in Clannad!”
I also took the opportunity to snap a bunch of pics to use for my visual novel! Anyway we called up DS and finally met up with him. While we were waiting the horror mentioned in the first paragraph walked by.

While I personally don’t support weeaboos wearing kimonos unless it’s part of a cosplay at an anime convention, I’ll let it go for the sakura matsuri if they wear it properly. Unfortunately I think I only saw 1-2 females actually wearing it properly. The rest were wearing it like you’d wear a big fuzzy bathrobe with frogs on it. The main point being here is: American women have bigger boobs than Japanese women. So when you don’t wear the kimono (or in their case overpriced Kinokuniya yukatas) properly, your tits hang out like you’re a prostitute in some Japan themed porn flick. Let me also remind you all that today was not the “warm spring day” you’d wear these kinds of things in. It was like 59 degrees Fahrenheit with occasional winds and I had a fur coat on, occasionally wearing my hood. And here you have these teenage sluts walking around with their tits hanging out thinking they’re some sort of beautiful Japanese women that everyone will awe at. I’m sure people stopped them for photos but probably not for the reasons I just mentioned. ![]()

Eventually as we walked towards the tent with the taiko drumming we ran into a huge crowd of Narutards. Now I’m saying Narutards because that was the majority of them. The worst part is, these are the same ones I saw at both Anime Next and Manga Next. Now I didn’t mind cosplayers who just kinda chilled with their friends on a blanket, or those who just walked around and took photos of the trees. I’m specifically referring to the flock of teenage idiots who ran around in circles, screamed like they were on speed, humped each other in photos and climbed up the poor cherry trees. It’s bad enough that they make jackasses of themselves at anime cons, but they gotta go and tarnish the beauty of the gardens with their immature asswipe behavior.

Needless to say, I didn’t actually approach anyone for a photo, I just snapped one for a visual to use with my rant. Anyway, weeaboo morons aside, the gardens and the trees were very pretty. I’ve actually never gone to the gardens before period, so this was a good chance to check out the stuff that wasn’t pertaining to the sakura matsuri. (Also those areas were quite empty of crowds and weeaboos so I got to take some nice pictures and literally smell the flowers!
) It was also interesting to walk around and hear people babbling in Japanese and Russian and knowing what they were saying. I also found multiple 4 leaf clovers ranging from ones that had leaves the size of quarters to the size of a pea.

Anyway we had a ripoff lunch of a sushi box for $7 while DS got a bento box for $14. I also had my major event of taking a photo with my favorite flavor of sushi pillow. (The ebi one lol) DS also met up with his cousin and was dragged off to the Murakami exhibit at the museum. JP and I just walked around and eventually settled ourselves into the short “panel” with Kensuke Okabayashi who was promoting and selling his Manga for Dummies book. He was a funny guy and since me & JP sat in the front we got to crack jokes about 1970s and 80s anime like Glass Mask, Rose of Versailles and Fist of the Nortstar like character designs. While I think he’s a great artist, his style seems to be stuck in that 1980s 1990s Bubble Gum Crisis sorta era. It’s all good but obviously there are newer/more moe styles these days that I’m not sure if anyone likes that style anymore. It’s sort of the reason why I avoid most “how to draw manga” books because while they can teach figure drawing, they teach an outdated style.

Anyway all that aside, DS picked himself an overpriced sushi pillow for $45. Man those things are TINY. I mean I expected large huggable things but they’re really small!! That makes the ripoff price already even more of a ripoff. Also they had “sugar confectioneries” in shapes of Japanese cranes, fortune cookies, kanji and sakura petals. JP and I got the sakura petal ones because they were the cheapest, and I think I know why - the god damn thing tasted like PAINT!! Ugh after 1 taste I threw mine in the garbage. I think JP managed to finish his but we got different flavors. Next time you see those things, just stay AWAY. ![]()

We left the park and to kill time headed over to Muji and Uniqlo. We only went into Muji because outside it said 70% Off Sale, but the only real thing “worth” buying was probably their 20% off porcelain tea kettles - but they were plain white. At least at Mitsuwa you can get some sort of design on them probably for the same price or less. God I hate Muji, why is it still in business?
We went to Uniqlo and again, overpriced stuff I can get at H&M despite their “golden week” sale. JP and DS got stuff but that’s because when they have man sales, it’s actually worth it while they expect women to splurge on clothing anyway (especially fashion crazed Japanese.)

For dinner we took DS to Yakiniku JuJu where this time around we had shabushabu (where you boil the meat in really hot water rather than grill it on a plate.) Good stuff, except I think I got overzealous and ate most of the green onions.
And so that is the concludes our weeabooing day in New York City.
I also grabbed some video clips with my phone from the Sakura Matsuri event. The first one is just a quick panoramic shot around where the DJ was, and the 2nd one is the Hanagasa Odori that we just happened to run into as we were headed towards the library.

The sakura look pretty! It’s too bad about the fanbrats and the weeaboos in badly worn kimono
I know from experience that it’s tough to put on kimono properly (and I had an obaa-san to dress me), but if you’re going to do it, might as well do it right.
“climbed up the poor cherry trees”
Weren’t there guards to prevent people from harming the poor trees?
I agree with Senna that if you are going to wear a kimono you should do it properly, otherwise you’re only making a fool of yourself.
As taught in Honey and Clover: If you have big boobs you have to wrap cloth around your middle so that your body becomes more streamlined and your boobs don’t end up “sitting” on the obi. (although from your description, I’m guessing those girls weren’t even wearing obi.)
Bleh, it sucks that you had to come across Narutards bringing shame to the name of Anime Fan. I mean, I’m usually “let people do what they want”, but there should be some modicum of decorum at festivals like this.
But I’m glad you at least got to see some nice flowers and go to the fun panel. (and dude, you actually know Glass Mask!? Awesome! Considering it’s a flower festival, did the Murasaki no Bara no Hito come up at all?)
Scheris> Actually no there weren’t lol. The only guards that were around were the ones at the gate making sure people paid before they got in ^^;;
Senna> Yea JP looked it up and there’s 69 steps in putting on a kimono and they wear a proper undergarment with it. I think these fanbrats were wearing the cheap kinokuniya yukatas which are clearly not meant for this time of year lol.
L-chan> Some of them weren’t that’s for sure xDDD. Erm what’s Murasaki no Bara no Hito? XD
Oh, so that’s how you celebrate Japanese-style springtime. It’s a bit similar the way I saw it in Japan, without the -tards of course. Man, them weeaboos are so clueless. Let’s see them wear that in Japan, I DARE THEM!
I faintly recall my own Hanami picnic over at some park. While there are so many people, it is not as noisy as it looks. Everything’s peaceful, and I especially like it when everyone exclaims “awww kireii~” everytime the wind blows making cherry blossoms fly all around.
Hinano: Murasaki no Bara no Hito = The Purple Rose Man. Aka Hayami Masumi who kept sending Maya purple roses as her “secret admirer/fan.” Ahhh, I love classic, cheesy shoujo.
And ew God, no obi? *retch*
wind chime collage <3
Tch, they should have guards, since there’s always an idiot who harms the trees.
At least you had a good time, right?
They were only really near the main tent and the two rows of cherry trees (basically the area in the first photo). You could walk around the park or go into the visitor center and there weren’t any of them there.
grr i would have really wanted too go to this sadly im stuck in school in the bahamas reading about it T-T
I don’t understand the thought process that leads someone to cosplay Naruto for something like this. It’s like going to a wedding dressed up as Mako-chan because cakes are involved. As for wearing kimonos/yukatas, well at least it’s somewhat understandable, even if they failed badly at it. However, if they were really as you described, and it was in fact cold, it doesn’t sound like failure at all. Unless they were fat.
That was a joke, please don’t kill me.
JohnG: I’m tempted to see if someone can be found to dress up as Mako-cakes going to a wedding now, after your comment. Except, for a wedding, Mako-cakes would merely be an effeminate looking young man or boy wearing a bridesmaid dress or other elegant evening wear…
And they wonder why the Japanese have no respect for America. It’s the same reason the French don’t have any, or a lot of other countries. And why the Americans look down at the fake-Americans who appear in anime all the time…
@Haesslich: Amen. For every step forward that we who go to Japan and try to give the best impressions we can take, we go like another ten steps backwards because of stupid Narutards and and other idiotic American posers.
It’s like when Bobby Flay did the whole “standing on the cutting board” thing on Iron Chef. It’s like, “Well, there went any respect for American chefs right out the window.”
Well to be a proper Mako-cakes would require the correct hairstyle/hairclip configuration, otherwise you’re just Makoto cosplaying a maid.
JohnG: The hairclip’s easy. The hairstyle’s harder but not impossible. Finding the proper sheath dress is going to be the tough part… that, and someone with the right figure and facial features. They have to be able to pull off kawaii-moe. And look very feminine. Like ‘breaking minds’ feminine.
I wished you’ve taken more pictures of said tits hanging out for our, erm, observations.
Oh hey, I was just in New York a few days ago. Just missed it. I did not know about this, though… and did not get the opportunity to go to Brooklyn, either.
Anyway, that… those people… wow. Being used to tropical climates, I had to wear warmer clothes than most people, so that makes it even harder for me to comprehend how those people can wear stupid Narutard cosplay and retarded kimonos and not freeze to death. Though stupid cold spring weather is great weather for sakura and other pretty plants and flowers, I admit. Sucks to have that view marred by weaboo idiots, though.
Lawl Narutards.
Reminds me of the time when I saw a Bleach cosplayer during the Bon Odori festival held here, even when it was meant to honor the dead more than anything else.
Haha at the “I feel like I’m in CLANNAD!”, although pity about the Narutards. Well, at least it didn’t get so bad that you had to throw dictionaries at anyone, unless you didn’t mention that here.
Maybe it’s time to forget cons forever and just have private gatherings?
おつかれさん!レポート面白かったです。
Aww, this looks fun!
So, did you collect enough four-leaf clovers to make into a bunch of honey sandwiches for jp to eat on his train commute (while he cries manly tears)?
Also, maybe there’s a good reason why you found so many four-leaf clovers. For all the shit you have been going through in all of these cons, it’s fairly likely that some higher power out there feels the need to compensate you just a little bit with some “redemption coupons” for good luck.
We need more Hamaji and Jun! In kimonoes. :3~~~
bluemist> Good to hear they pulled it off as close to a Japanese festival as possible. I don’t know if I heard anyone go aww kirei because I actually didn’t hear that many Japanese while walking around (and when I did they were talking about a huge stage under the sea lol.)
Scheris> In general yea I had a good time, like JP said luckily the narutards were in 1 place most of the time.
Ryunatta> Haha but you’re in a tropical paradise!! We were all freezing in our coats
John> They will think of any Japanese related event as an excuse to cosplay. It doesn’t help that Kinokuniya enforces this by giving people discounts on certain days if they come in dressed up ^^;
Haesslich> I have a feeling the no respect for America isn’t related to the Narutards that much xD
tj> EW.
Even if that’s a joke. lol
ona> Oh that’s too bad, but eh they have it every year so you can always come next year right?
Shin> Hahahahah! Wtf xDDDD
Ascaloth> Yea I have a feeling 2008 might be my last year of cons…the thought of going to cons these days makes me sick but I already registered T_T
ひでぽん> やっぱり日本にはこのイベントにコスプレイーヤはこないよねw
Owen> I personally think that putting a clover into a sandwich is unsanitary and could cause food poisoning xD;; A lot of the clovers looked like they were bitten by insects too so I kept one to stuff in a book and tossed the others out.
Ascaloth> I found a 5 leaf clover too, but I didn’t bother plucking it since it was really a deformality haha.
Digi> Just rewatch H2O xD
I was sooo tired when I got home I didn’t post anything and then I have to work today, so I will be posting some pics this afternoon, so everyone can come get my take on this event in a few hours. Check it out!
I don’t know if its a typo, or a joke, i just don’t get. What did you mean by you got to “small the flowers.”
Beautiful pictures. You’re journeys are always top-notch readings.
Those trees look amazing; the entire area.
Wouldn’t it be funny if the narutards were commenters on your board. LOL
Stalkerz.
I think that sums up my feelings on cosplayers on trees.
Hinano: I meant the total ignorance of other cultures’ values and traditions, and the arrogance displayed by those people who assume that they’re ‘honoring’ those people by wearing a kimono badly (showing a lack of understanding of the reasons those are worn, how they’re worn, etc) and then they wonder why they’re getting ignored and decide to be even more obnoxious to try and get the praise they feel they DESERVE.
Basically, the Narutards are a symptom of this attitude that the United States of America is the center of the universe… which means, when people from those ‘exotic’ cultures see their own being treated like a Disneyland for ignorance… well, some will take offense at it. Many may take offense at it, especially if they’re doing idiotic things like paying disrespect by showing up at a bon festival in cosplay gear, and so forth.
BTW, you should’ve kept that Five Leaf Clover. Asagi from Yotsubato was looking for one of those, way back when…
panda> it was a typo, I was dead tired
sabrina> its enough that I have to see them at anext and manganext XD
caitlin> just think of what you have to look forward to when you return to the US!
Haesslich> LOL ok now that you put it that way I can see why they’d disrespect us. JP said it’s like wearing jeans and sneakers with a tuxedo jacket to a wedding haha.
I was one of the cosplayers sitting around and taking some pictures XD
I was the Haruhi Suzumiya and I had tons of fun yesterday when I went.
I’m gonna make this an annual event to go to for now on.
Hiii!!!
I was one of the cosplayers there, though not one of the Narutards, but after you left, they finally did get off the tree.
It seems that one of the groups of cosplayers had torn the limbs from the trees and were acting like assholes, so they completely ganged up on anyone who was in cosplay.
And the thing is, I was in a yellow Ouran dress and had no signs of weapons on me, but if I got near the tree a guard would appear out of no where and look at me like I was a freak.
But, I’m sorry for my friend’s behavoir. Acting like that at a con is one thing, but destroying trees in a garden is horrible.
hinano: I was thinking it’s more akin to someone wearing a wife-beater and denim cutoffs during a church service, drinking beer and belching half-understood American pop songs at the top of their lungs because that’s how you thought Americans celebrated things at their festivals… or maybe wearing an ill-fitting tux to a Fourth of July celebration, having it half-unbuttoned and then shouting that you’re an American while holding the flag upside down and then setting other American flags on fire while publically defacing a duplicate of the Lincoln Memorial.
In other words, being a completely disrespectful asshole who somehow thinks he’s ‘honoring’ American traditions by not understanding them, and then acting in ways which would turn the most patriotic American about ten different shades of purple.
I love these posts.
Why go to a garden wearing a kimono in freezing weather? I still have yet to experience your rage at narutards as I have not met one yet.
Megan> Wow that’s really sad… :S Like I said, if the cosplayers behaved I wouldn’t really care but like you said they were just being fucking disrespectful
Megan: I hate it when someone has to make my analogies even more accurate than ever. :/
Let’s not generalize the behavior of a small group of Narutards and well meaning but ignorant kimono wearers into why the world hates America. Giving an honest attempt to wear a kimono has got to be several orders of magnitude away from not knowing how to dress at a wedding, considering that if you buy a clip on there are no hard parts to wearing a suit/tux but apparently putting on a kimono requires more steps than building something from Ikea.
BTW I’ve seen people wear wife-beaters and worse to church, believe it or not, and no one at church cares as long as they aren’t disrupting the service.
JohnG: Given the kimono’s significance these days as a symbol of the old culture, wearing one badly to a cultural festival is rather like learning that you know all about American society by watching Borat… and then expecting to be congratulated for being culturally sensitive. And if you read the full example, you’ll note that it explicitly said they were disruptive at the service. That’s the problem, especially with the group of cosplayers Megan mentioned.
Seriously - if you’re going to do it, at least try to make the effort to do it correctly. And I’m afraid that MOST people don’t take the ‘broader perspective’ when dealing with small groups of offensively disruptive idiots like the Narutards there - there’s a reason the Ugly American stereotype exists in most places… and Canadians are seen stereotypically as self-effacing and polite, mannered folk.
Couldn’t you have just wear glasses that filters off tards and undesirable sights? =(
@Haesslich: Be careful, man, them be fightin’ words. (I agree with you completely, though.
)
urgh. I mean ‘worn’. And seriously those lunch sets were too expensive.
Sakura Matsuri in Brooklyn: I saw Cherry Blossoms, I saw Art, I saw… Narutards?!? OMG!!!…
Yesterday, I went to the Sakura Matsuri at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. It was chilly, but I was happy the rain held off. I got there fairly early (at least, before Hinano and JP arrived), so I had the chance to explore the area. I saw the stuff…
@Hinano: I really am not looking forward to return. Well, except the wedding bit. I mean, I like the US, I’m not going to be a disgruntled ex-pat but examples like this remind me of why I’m embarrassed about the lack of global knowledge.
@Haesslich
This event took place in the United States, and I would guess most of the people there were, in fact, Americans. Probably even most of the Japanese people there were Americans. Sure, it was put on by Japanese but for the purpose of showcasing their culture to Americans. How many American cultural events occur in Japan, put on by Americans but primarily for the benefit of the Japanese? I would guess zero. And if, at this mythical American event, Japanese made a well-meaning but erroneous attempt at acting American, would any American be offended? Probably not. Because you wouldn’t be holding the event in the first place if you didn’t expect to see some well-meaning but ignorant people messing up your customs.
Were the people wearing kimonos disruptive? I don’t see any evidence of that. Of course I didn’t address your false example - since I was talking only about the kimono wearing people, all that other crap was completely irrelevant. I agree that the Narutards are an embarassment not only to Americans but to all of humanity, but then the vast majority of Americans would probably agree as well.
So in the end you are generalizing how a few teenage Narutards act while in the United States at an event targeting Americans (do you think they are targeting Japanese with their overpriced marketing crap? I doubt it) to say “this is why everyone hates Americans.” I mean, look at the official event website - it’s chock full of things like DJs, J-pop and other Weaboo fetishs. I highly doubt that Japanese people at an American event designed to heighten awareness of Japanese culture among ignorant but well meaning Americans would be offended to anywhere close to the same degree as someone openly and purposefully bothering people during church services. If wearing a kimono/yukata is so damn important, why do Japanese stores sell them at ridiculously high prices in stores targeting Americans? I guess correctly wearing the sacred kimono is one thing, but price gouging Weaboos is something completely different.
JohnG: The Narutards are just a symptom of a larger issue, as I stated - cultural arrogance is something that is NOT unique to Americans; everyone has it. Japan has it, China has it, France has it (oh god, but do they have it.. and embodied in law, no less), as do the British, the Germans, the Russians, the Ukranians… you name it. What the Narutards are merely represent the tip of the iceberg.
Out of large groups of people who are ‘fans’ of a different culture due to its perceived exotic nature, you’ll usually see three factions: those who dive into the culture and try to be ‘more genuine than the natives’, those who are aware and try to abide by its values even as they acknowledge the gaps in their knowledge, and then the poseurs who get tattoos in Kanji/Chinese calligraphy because it looks cool, or who dress up as Naruto because it’s Japanese, and so forth. The first tend to be arrogant, stuck-up assholes which people native to a culture tend to grin about in private. The second.. well, they’re normal people. The third are the type who get the bad press… especially when they’re typical “American hooligans” like those who were ripping branches of trees. The types of kids who get portrayed as ‘typical American teenagers’ in foreign press or conversations. The ones who end up growing up to be the types of assholes who fuel anti-Americanism in Japan and overseas after being brought up on court-martial charges for raping schoolgirls and the like.
The kimono-wearing people who were ignorant? Well, they’re ignorant… and unfortunately perpetuate the idea of ‘ugly Americans’ when they go overseas. They know just enough to look like idiots, or wear tattoos which say ’sweet and sour pork’ because they liked the look of the characters. I find some of them to be quite smelly and lacking personal hygiene, as well. The problem I’m trying to point out is this: yes, generalizations are bad… but they happen. And having bad examples out and about means that the vast lot get bundled into that narrow stereotype - which makes people want to gouge you that much more.
You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff I hear in conversations when some people are certain that they can’t be understood… and I can understand WHY some folks of my parents’ generation are rather leery of Americans, or white folk in general (which they tend to bundle together as Americans even if they’re French or whatever). I’ve seen this type of idiocy everywhere, but it almost seems to be taught in schools in some parts of the States, to judge by the complaints I see… in Canada, which is culturally closer to the United States than to Britain now, much less most other countries.
[...] notice hardly anyone blogs Shounen or Shoujo stuff. Most of the stuff the average reader gets are real-life editorials, news updates (and editorials pertaining to these updates), and then there are the episodic anime [...]
Um not to be rude. But I was that Ino that you toke of pic of. and seriously, we didn’t do anything harmful to the sakura trees.
I love those trees just as much as the next person, but we seriously didn’t do anything to them. And there were a TON of noncosplayers that climbed the trees and did much worse stuff than us.
And believe me when I say this, cause I don’t wanna be mean about this, the people I know and me who cosplay that stupid anime, we like the non important characters honestly, and we’re not tryin to bring sham to anything. A good portion of us do different anime cosplays anyway.
Seriously, I don’t think you should be bashing all of us, I understand bashing a few of us, cause I would to, to be 100% honest, but you should also be screaming about the noncosplayers! I saw a bunch of normal people with sticks and swords climbing the trees and hitting the trees.
I’m not tryin to be rude, just trying to make some things understandable.
I just couldn’t sit still and let a whole slew of misunderstandings be.
First of all, many of the people you are insulting happen to be my friends. I was not one of the cosplayers that day (far too cold), but I can assure you that the “humping” or whatever slander you insist on referring to (we tackle, we hug, but otherwise you’re completely overreacting) was nothing more than groups of people who merely haven’t seen one another in a while. We are all really good friends who have known each other for quite some time, which is why we tend to cosplay from the same series. Excuse us for being excited when a majority of us live to far away and can only meet up at festivals and conventions. There was absolutely nothing disrespectful about our behavior that day, and I get the feeling you’re only putting us down because they were Naruto cosplayers.
Well, I have news for you. Aside from tree-climbing (which everyone does), we are innocent of all charges you’ve accused us of. The exact same group you have photographs of as “proof” of our misbehavior hadn’t even been IN the park when the incidents of idiots swinging at trees occured. We were spread out between Wendy’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Popeye’s eating a reasonably-priced meal. It was a group of One Piece cosplayers who broke off branches. I know, because I was there when they came forward and admitted it.
I also want to know who the hell cares if non-asian people are walking around in yukata? When I attended last year’s Hanami in Yotsuya, Tokyo, not only was I encouraged to wear yukata, but several of my Japanese friends actually helped me put it on (I happen to be 100% Irish and 0% Asian, btw). And believe me, unless you have somebody knowledgable in tieing those complicated knots, there is a low chance that you will be able to wear it properly anyway. I saw a few girls with larger tops than I, but nothing that warrants your accusation of them being “sluts.” We get it; kimono and yukata were not made for girls who are larger than a frickin’ A cup. They don’t have to look perfect.
Cosplay is a part of Japanese culture. A small part, but it is there. We were all attending a Japanese festival, so why not embrace the fun of dressing up while we’re at it. You say you’re ashamed of being a cosplayer after this weekend. Well, just so you know, I have never been more proud to be one.
i can understand your anger
but why focus on one group in particular for this
i saw these everyone and not trying to sound rude or anything but NONE of them were obnoxious i mena jsut for a few damn pictures there is no need to go all anal over something like that
also i forgot to mention i myself was one of those cosplayers and those are my friends as well
why would you write this i understand you’re mad but if you have an issue with us then come up to us and tell us instead of hiding behind a computer screen
we are not bad people
so there is no need in putting us down because maybe you were not having fun there
i just wanna know why it bothers people that we cosplay if you dont like it then just ignore it and keep walking. and yes some of us were in the trees but not harming them one bit. not 1 person in that photo harmed any trees. and seriously just because we cosplay naruto doesnt mean thats all we have. we are all friends who live far apart so we like to cosplay around each other because it makes things more fun ^.^ now if theres a 400 lbs guy walking around as Sailor Moon or as I like to call Sailor Bubba then it gets
yeah. but what i saw all of us were in decent costume and looked really good. So please just lay off the one group its not like we were everywere we mainly stayed in 1 area so focus on the real problems at hand like the people who actually did damage the trees for fun.
You know what I hate? Stuck up assholes like you. Why don’t you get your facts straight before accussing the Naruto cosplay group of “hurting” the trees.
First of all: It was not the Naruto group who was acting like a bunch of morons. It was the One Peice group. Hence why it was THEY who got kicked out of the festival. We, as someone else said, were out of the guardens getting food when the incident occured.
Second of all: Since when is climbing trees hurting them? Did any of the branches snap off while they were sitting on it? NO. Therefore, them sitting on it had no adverse effects on the tree. The ONE single tree that they were sitting on in the picture, mind you.
Third: Who the hell are you to sit there and bash other people for wearing Kimono’s again? (Wearing them right or not.) Wasn’t the Sakura Matsuri a festival for Japanese culture? So let me get this straight: You’re pissing and moaning about Americans trying to celebrate what the festival was about? Now you’re just being a whiny bitch. Shut the hell up.
And the cosplay group, as someone already stated, was just excited to see each other. We are all friends from many different states. Do you expect us to be nonchalont about seeing each other after so long?
So why don’t you keep your whining to yourself. If you can’t handle other people having fun with your stuck up view, stay the hell home.
I have to agree with LeeAnne. If it bothers you so much, stay home.
You know what? Here’s just a better idea since you touched on Animenext and Manganext: We’ll be there every year.
Do us all a favor and stay home.
Yeah, I’d like to point out that you really should get your facts straight. First off, this is a Japanese festival targeted to Americans. Granted, there’s Japanese people there, but what you’re basically saying is that if you aren’t Japanese, you have no right being here. Okay, so, no one outside of Japan should be touching their culture. Sounds pretty xenophobic. It’s also aimed at anime goers.. which is WHY there is a Manga Library, an AnimeNext booth, and J-Pop Dances. So why SHOULDN’T people cosplay to this again?
Second, where did you see us harming trees? Hm? We’re the ones who helped the BBG FIND the people who were, in fact, attacking those trees. What were you doing? Probably making snidy remarks and pretending like you’re holier than thou because you might know a few more Wikipedia entries than others.
How absolutely elitist. You know what would have impressed me more? If you had came to us and griped. Not came to your computer, wrote up your blog here, and moaned about how unfair the world. Don’t cry emo child. I’d like to know what nationality you are, since you’re so quick to throw out words like weeboo.
@Haesslich
My point with the Kimono people is that they were not overseas. They were not in Japan trying to act Japanese. They were at a culutral event designed to enlighten the culturally ignorant. Those running the event going into it know that any attempts will probably be somewhat wrong, but in good faith. That’s completely different from going to Japan and acting like you know everything about being Japanese.
I agree with the Jose and Leeanne
if we bother you so much for having fun do us a favor and stay home. The least you could have done if you had a concern was come to us, but instead you are like i stated before hiding behind a computer screen poking fun at a group of friends. Dont bother going to AnimeNext or MangaNext if you dislike us so much. You are being very beligerent about this entire thing so just cut it out.
After we stated the things with our group, why do you not state anything now about us but instead the kimino wearing people. Dont bash on these people. We all went to have fun and just because you are jealous of us having great friendship and enjoy or time with eachother doesnt give you any damn right to go bashing us like this.
Wait what, did the URL to this blog got spread between the group and they decided to just all jump you, Hina? Poor girl. *pats*
*sob sob* I want a 4LC… Want a Bunny Ears. (Not idea where I should go about hunting Fluffs though. x3 )
Hinano - not Weaboo enough to be acknowledged as a weaboo by people who feel insulted by being called weaboos
MegaDaijoubu 2.25: More Idiotic Narutards…
Inspired by the comments on this post.
……
ROFL @ the cosplayers trying to defend themselves and making comments on here, i cried. the end
tehihihi
This has inspired a quote!
Episode V: The Weaboos Strike Back!
Too much information to comment on… brain overload. But seriously love being elitist. The summary:
1) At least people can string sentences and reply coherently.
2) This post has enter into the annals of flaming ranting topics, ie. this is one of the fun posts.
3) Both side have valid points, although I tend to lean to the hinano-ists because my hatred for nahruhtoe and one peece is a wee more than that for the harutards.
4) Cosplay needs to be done with effort. Might as well be naked if there is no effort.
Now waiting for the rest of the hinano-ists to come out of the woodwork…
Miyuki> Bunny ears need to order from one of the online stores. Or you can try making them. They are basically ears on a headband. PS nice blog title, now I can say I visit random curiosity and insanity. curiously insane.

I have a feeling if they weren’t dressed as Naruto characters you would be having less of a problem. Do we not call this a steryotype??
Besides the Naruto and the Tsunade, (they aren’t in our group), tell me what is wrong with the costumes in our group? (Ino, Sasuke, Gai, and Lee). Is it because Sasuke is black? Is it because TJSasuke’s rope isn’t alive and defying gravity? Besides those two factors, these in, my oppinion, are relativly good cosplays. We all cosplay from other animes.
The only reason they chose to do Naruto is because that is who people, not at an animecon might recognize since it is so popular. Hell, half of us can’t stand the anime at this point, because it’s a Sasuke Naruto fest. It’s annoying. (I swear, Kishimoto was kidnapped by yaoi fangirls and is now in control of the series.)
It’s people who generalize Naruto cosplayers like you guys that make me really detest my Tsunade cosplay. (I didn’t wear it this festival.) I worked really hard on mine! It wasn’t store bought, it wasn’t half assed, I really tried my best to make it. And I’ve been told that I’m the best Tsunade they’ve ever seen. Yet I feel bad for wearing it with the rest of my friends, because of people who group us together with the Narutards, who are running around with yaoi paddles in stupid snj cosplays.
I am not deffending the girls in the half assed kimonos. Because I think I saw the same ones you did and it’s gross. But at the same time, do you really think that normal americans are going to know the 69 steps in putting one on?
Wait, I thought it was a commenter that mentioned the branches breaking, and I thought that she mentioned that it was a different group that did it…
(Also, everything Haesslich says, etc.)
LOL I like how everyones like “keep it to yourself” yet this is my personal blog
Not like I went around advertising this post haha. I also like how the pissed off people are admitting that there were idiots in their naruto group yet they act like i am specifically targetting THEM. *shrug* Keep the lulz up, I am amused
Miyuki> Are you playing RO2 on euphro2 now?? We should meet up in game sometime xD (even though parties are kinda busted)
Don’t you get it? The biggest question here, that is yet to be answered by all, is….
WHO IS YOUR FAV NARUTO HERO???
I FUCKIN LOVE SASOOKE!!!
LET’S SWEAT OUR YOUTH’S SWEAT TOGETHER, NARUTO!
Too bad I’m late for the party…
Favourite naurto hero?
To lift a quote:
Slavik: CABAL, define favourable outcome.
CABAL: They all die.
So in summary, recycling their corpses would benefit humanity.
o.o I’m not seriously targetting you about this blog.
I’m just upset how you used us for the blame.
That’s it. I’m not tryin to make a big deal about it.
It justed annoyed me how you talked some shit about my friends and that’s it.
If you like, we can privately talk about it and how some are makin a big deal about it that’s all.
Oky? ^-^
[...] not limited to nutjob Naruto cosplayers wielding yaoi paddles. It’s also not limited to supposedly smooth-talking bloggers who know only hatred and evil in [...]
you have no right too make fun of naruto cosplayers, it is a japanese anime and we have every right as you do too be a japanese festival, actually anime and cosplay is a huge part of the japanese culture. look it up. we werent disrespecting the trees in any way either, we were taking pictures next too them but none of us were ever try to cause any harm too them and me and im sure other cosplayers are insulted that you would even bring this up. just because you dont understand something, you shouldnt make fun of it. by posting this rant, you give people in general a bad name because your just complaining because you didnt enjoy yourself enough and you probably just wanna take your frustrations out on us. if you dont like us or cosplayers, dont come next year and dont go too anime conventions. japanese animation such is naruto is huge in japan and we as fans should be able too show our support by cosplaying from it. so next time, think before you type such a mean blog.
ATTENTION ANNOYING WEEABOOS: GTFO. Now, for crying out loud. You guys were annoying, period. Hinano does not overreact to crap like that, and so while I wasn’t there, I can safely tell by the descriptions of your acts that you guys were disturbing others. Perhaps not all of you were responsible for the madness that occurred. However, those of you that were climbing trees and being loud are a disgrace to the anime community.
And, BTW, Hinano has nothing against Naruto. She drew a freaking Naruto doujin, for crying out loud. It’s just that you guys were disrespectful.
Anyway, I think I’ll go giggle in my little corner with my weeaboo, lopsided handmade Sasuke plushie, because you guys are sooooo hilarious and annoying cosplayers make me giggle inside. /sarc
Trees. Lol.
wait wait I got a really good image:

Isn’t Cosplay a sign of mental illness in Japan?
I like Sasuke a lot and I drink Kirin beer too! <3 <3 <3 <3
Here’s a final note on me, for I won’t be coming back to read this pitty of a humans blog:
Don’t come to AnimeNext. You just made yourself a whole lot of enimes.
LOL are you threatening me? Someone seems itching to end up in juvenile prison!
“Don’t come to AnimeNext. You just made yourself a whole lot of enimes.”
enimes? Is that related to animes?
Wow. This was hilarious. ^-^
“Wahhh this blog is mean! Why do you steryotype us? You’re so stuck up and jelous of our freindship blah blah!…”
Baww some more.
And thus my searing hatred of the anime fandom escalates; when certain groups of people don’t kow how to conduct themselves in public places. Those same types lack have the capacity to type, much less construct with a decent argument. Remember kids, it’s not a sterotype if it’s true!
And then leave it to the weaboo idiots to have to stoop to a threat. Hah! Watch out for their ninjutsu powers! Oooohhh~
Anyways! If a person (or group of persons) had nothing to do with a situation, then they have nothing to cry and whine about. They take criticism so seriously that they gang up on a person’s blog and proceed to bitch and moan. Or whine about how people stereotype certain groups when a majority of them fit the bill. Or they add in nonsensical crap that has nothing to do with…well, anything. And then they wonder. Odd, isn’t it?
I wished I could have gone to see the pretty cherry blossoms for myself, but I was (and still am) trapped in Florida for the time being. Next year…
BTW, the kimono-fail girls could at least make the EFFORT to wear a kimono right and get the gold star. ^-^ Much more shiny than the bronze.
To the posting angry cosplayer friends, please do stop.. You are over the top just proving the point of the blogger. Now, I know you know who I am from the posting name, but you are actually now just bothering me with your post.. If you KNOW for a fact you were NOT one of the troublemakers at this con then you shouldn’t feel a dying need to prove it to this person posting.
You cosplay to a festival, of course not everyones going to like it. You should EXPECT to be generalized into the community of retards that are within the cosplay community. I expect it. It’s mostly why I cosplayed someone in a suit outfit. Now yes, I did cosplay to this festival, and no I’m actually NOT offended by this blog, so why should you? I was even WITH those people he was bashing, well, the ones in the photo. and he is right you guys ARE loud. Trust me I left with a near ear bleed Sunday night =P I’m a quiet person and even I know I was being a little bit ADD and annoying to some. There is no need to go out of your way to bash her (god I hope your a her =P) blog.. It’s HERS of course she can say her own opinion. Isn’t that why it’s here?
Hinano- Your blog just was just about spot on. It makes me glad I didn’t actually buy a lollipop I was actually going to buy those exact same ones =P but then again apparently in NY I can’t buy anything for a dollar anyways so saving a dollar did me no good… either that or the garden is just over priced o_O
Mitskuni> Most things in NY are overpriced. The lollypops were the only thing that was actually a dollar but yea, paint flavor, not worth it
I think I saw you within that group (the Ouran cosplayer right?) but at least you weren’t climbing the trees lol. I wish the other whiners here would understand the same way you do - but seeing your post gives me hope that within these idiots, there are sane cosplayers around.
(And yes I am a she hehe)
I’m agreein with mitskuni, by this point.
But seriously, how about we all stop with this and move on!
No more, cause this is just annoying by this point, and I’m pretty sure Hinano is gettin’ annoyed by all of this as well.
We all understand eachother in different ways. I have no reason to be angry at her no more. I already talked to her, which I’m happy I did, about it. Just stop it now guys, please. It was bad enough there was other drama on that one day that I should of been beyond happy, and they know what I mean by that.
Hinano> I’m sorry for all this. ^-^; Hopefully they’ll all stop now. x.x
