New York Anime Festival tickets available but…
…why in the
hell are they $40 for a Saturday only attendance? That’s $10 more than New York Comic Con! I can’t see how this is justifiable when the NYCC probably has a lot more dealers/events/people that require more costs…than NYAF which has a lot less and a lot less content to begin with. Not that NYCC was exciting for me due to lack of Anime related content, but NYAF is pretty bare boney in itself. Last year I left the con feeling kinda let down because things closed early but I know that’s just because that’s how the Javitz center works. So with all of this in mind why the price jack? I had seriously thought about going to this con but I can’t see a justification of paying $40 to go for 1 day unless they get something as equally or more awesome as T.M.Revolution (B’z anyone?) The way they’ve made it is that attending for 3 days you get a MUCH better deal - but since this is only the con’s 2nd year, I don’t really find myself wanting to attend all 3 days. (Especially when last year a lot of panels/events repeated from Friday to Saturday anyway.) I really hope NYAF staff considers lowering the price or they may find a big attendance drop this year. My Anime Next 3 day pass was $40 - and I have to pay the same for a 1 day con that ends at 8?
Edit: Just got a response from the staff blogger:
This year’s NYAF will be running much longer than last year’s. While most events wrapped up at 7 in ‘07, we’ll be keeping panels, screenings, and special events on until 10 this year. If you need to wait and see, though, that’s cool. We’ll be announcing guests and programming beginning in June.
Alrighty then I guess I can see where that extra $10 comes from. I’ll wait and see what they bring out in their programming before making my purchase though.

Nooooooo!
Sell more manga at BookOff to pay the extra $10!
Please don’t skip NYAF!
DS> Hahaha yea I should, but it’s the principle really. I hate buying something that screams ripoff in my face. Also after last year’s not so nice boat incident, I’m not that much of a happy camper with NYAF to begin with.
But NYAF was so good about it–they warned everyone about the Nice Boat scam as soon as they found out about it and they’ve banned them from the con! And NYAF is sooo close to you.
But if you do skip it, just go to ConnectiCon instead (lol)
lol connecticon and its ugly mascot can die in a fire
now I really really really want to hear what it was like at your first con that made it so great…everything else just seems bad lol
akon> For starters, the anime fans that were teenagers at the time weren’t as retarded as they are now. Also the “first con”experience and well the fact that it was a small con (about 2000 people) and events & stuff were a lot easier to get into as well as workshops & all that. Also my first “dealers room” experience etc. Back when anime was “rare” but now that its so easily available, its not as “special” and with all the annoying loud kids running around that experience is never coming back
LISTEN UP SHUGO CHARA FANS!!!!! IM PROUD TO PRESENT THAT SHUGO CHARA CHAPTER 28 IS OUT!!!! WOOOT! ITS SO WORTH LOOKING AT!!!!
GO TO YOUTUBE TO CHECK IT OUT!!! HINANO< PLEASE TRY TO BLOG THE CHAPTER
Well the good and old, but crappy cons are a fair trade for not having to wait for a scratchy pirate fansub on VHS if you wanted to see something
I hope you go because fangirl rage posts = win.
I looked up “connecticon” and I saw a bloated-faced-purple-haired-fish-monster-chick, and robo-rabbit. Are those the mascots of which you speak? If so, I agree wholeheartedly.
Like Akon, I too have long wondered about the magical “First Con” experience, I now realize you’re simply jaded. Consider yourself diagnosed.
And tx to Susie for the Shugo Chara update. I prefer the manga to the anime, but I’m digging both.
