RBP: Plowing Along…
Owen asked me on MAL if I was still working on the RenAi Blogger Project. Well truth be told I am but certain things have distracted me. I’ve been working on an excel spreadsheet with routes, events, paths and bad ends. I’ve pretty much done all but 1 character which I hope to finish tonight. While browsing my blogroll today I ran upon this post by zepy in regards to CatSystem2 which was another Visual Novel engine used by people who made Trappyness.

I downloaded and played around a bit, and while I have to admit, based on the tutorial, you could do a lot of cool shit with this thing…but since my Japanese reading knowledge is god awful (especially when it comes to technical things) I found myself even more lost than with Ren’Py. I mean programming is hard enough for me but programming and Japanese kanji? I think I’ll pass. Most likely Ren’Py will be what I ultimately use to do my game in. Also I realized after I did most of my routes that the game could almost be like an otome game except from a guy’s POV. What have I created! ![]()

Looking forward to it.
What programming are you doing? From what I understand it, you shouldn’t need to do any programming. What feature are you trying to do?
Otome game from a guy’s POV? What does that mean?
Nice to see that the project is coming along well.
“An otome game from a guy’s POV..” << How would that work?
bakaneko> haven’t started yet XD but for starters I’m not quite sure how to customize the visual menu/text screen. didnt see it in any of the tutorials ^^;
shin and sunya> it means its all girly rather than pr0ny xD
I thought girly not pr0ny was always the point
hmmmm the plot twists…
Is there any, um, School Days influence on any of the endings. Oh, but you probably don’t want to reveal that. How about a Dango end?
If you take out the pr0n then what else is there? Girly crap!
I’d take girly game over a gazillion other games where male leads fall down into bishoujos by ‘accident’.
Hurray for no pr0n! \o/
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!
#400!!! Now for my acceptance speech.
and for this entry which is an excellent one to achieve a milestone on.
First I’d like to thank hinano for keeping this place, without whom this milestone wouldn’t be possible, the fact that she is the only chatterbox here with entries that I can only dream of achieving
Secondly, to all the chatterboxes out there without whom there won’t be anything to comment on, all the rants, flames, trolling, etc2 etc2.
Now back to your regularly scheduled commentary.
JohnG> Just imagine the pr0n routes. Since this is involving the image of real persons, there wouldn’t be any.
bluemist> *cough*cough*Kanopr0n*cough*cough*
Dango ending sounds nice. As the ultimate good ending. Now if I remember, that pic is one before there is some hot hankypanky with Haruhi in the nurses’ office - damn, cg pack not on easily accessible media. Hinano should really apply to work at H-games company. >_> The best H-game designers/artists happen to be women.
Now if you use that engine, you must have the Impz route. Wait. That’s for the EXPANSION pack. Where you have the Jun route. >_> Two in fact. -whistles innocently-
Now onto the next milestone.
Most of the details of the configuration options for Ren’py are buried deep within the Reference section of the website, and almost all of it is really obtuse. You’d probably get better milage from examining the .rpy files from other peoples games ^^;
Changing the textbox isn’t too difficult, though - you can configure it to be based on an image by uncommenting and tweaking a line in your games options.rpy file.
digikazune> Congrats!
digikerot> yea I just gotta dig I know. I figured I’d just grab the demo game and see if I can edit any images from it lol
Have you tried Livemaker? My friend swears by it.
http://www.livemaker.net/
Shin> That looks cool but again, I really can’t deal with Japanese programs. I actually began working in RenPy last night and got as far as the text box going but so far so good xD; Unless livemaker has an English patch I’m not gonna bother. Reading Kanji isn’t one of my strong points.
