Ryokiteki na Kanojo - 01

Published by Hinano at 7:17 pm under Ryokiteki na Kanojo

Also known as Tsundere na Kanojo in my mind. Anyway this is the Japanese drama version of the Korean movie/drama “My Sassy Girl”. It features Kusanagi Tsuyoshi from SMAP (who I think is fugly) but I suppose that works for the lead male anyway as he wasn’t a cassanova in the Korean movie either. I haven’t actually watched the Korean drama to compare so all I can compare it to is the movie. I guess basically if you take the movie and then add some filler scenes in you will get this drama. Despite my low expectations, I quite enjoyed episode 1.

Our hero Saburo is now a marine biology professor rather than a college student. (What’s up with dramas this season making everyone 10 years older than the origial work?) The “Sassy girl” is Riko (whoa look guys another Riko! )and she is an aspiring writer. Saburo one day comes home to see his girlfriend doing it shamelessly with another guy and so he walks out (with the guys underpants) and never sees her again. While waiting for a train he sees a girl who’s wobbling around and saves her from falling off the platform.

Unlike in the Korean movie where the girl was just piss drunk, this one was just lacking 3 days worth of sleep because she has recently broken up with her boyfriend as well. Due to various circumstances and because Saburo is just a poor nice guy (who finishes last in this case) he ends up helping her on many occasions which somehow leads him to take her to a love hotel since he has no idea where she lives. To make things worse he is also caught by his co-workers who pretend they don’t know him but then call him “the worst” at work

If that wasn’t enough Saburo runs into his childhood friend Minami who he made a promise to meet again by giving her a dolphin whistle. It’s quite obvious she’s had a crush on him since forever, but since this isn’t anime, the childhood friend winning default unfortunately does not apply. In order to clear up the misunderstanding Saburo asks Riko to tell Minami that they are strangers and have nothing to do with each other. She says ok but on one condition - if he gets the teddy bear from the lost & found shop for her. Unfortunately this leads to a series of conditions from a ton of people such as getting an autograph at a concert, standing in line for a bag, performing at a school play, helping a bride run away from marrying some gaijin  and diving into deep waters to look for a suitcase.

Eventually they complete it all and she tells Minami as promised. All seems well and the next day Saburo finds out that someone is moving next door to him. As destiny would have it, it’s Riko of course and she’s here to make his social life and relationship with Minami pretty much a living hell. Too bad Saburo is such a nice guy, otherwise this drama wouldn’t last 11 episodes as he woulda been like “bitch STFU and GTFO! ” Regardless I still actually enjoyed this drama and I was rolling around laughing when he was crowdsurfing at that rock concert XD; I think I’ll follow this drama and add it to my Tuesday drama lineup.

Sounds like a fun series. I might start watching it, as well as Zettai Kareshi, since Tuesdays and Wednesdays are a complete bore.
    …Hmm, and I didn’t want to watch to many dramas… o_O

Sounds similar to My Sassy Girl but I think one of the distinct points of Kfilm has is that the Girl, didn’t have a name and lacked historical development for most of the film (just some things that rang with me); storytelling I guess.

This sounds fun, may check it out ^^

The Korean film works because nobody knew what started as a comedy could turn so serious and melodramatic. This, on the other hand, will have all the expectation of matching the Korean movie, which will kill any chance of it standing on its own.

It won’t fail totally since a) not everyone has seen a 6+ year old movie b) I saw this 6 years ago and the only thing I recalled was the girl being a violent bitch and throwing up on the subway train lol

I watched that movie about 3 years ago, and there is quite a cult around it, isn’t there? (At least I have the impression that everybody seems to know it.)

At that time, I hated that bitch with a passion until she became a bit more dere; I disliked her so much that I would consider changing my nick if there were more people saying that “Sasa” reminds them of “sassy”, haha.

I watched the movie a long time ago but I remember this one part where they are on a train and the sassy girl tells the guy that he was born to [in a way] serve her every whim.
He replied that he was born before her; so that couldn’t be true. She then took this and spun an analogy with herself being like Jesus.

I don’t know what the deal is with Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, cause I also don’t find him attractive. But he’s often playing the guy who gets walked on all the time, so he does it rather well.

I don’t dig live action dramas or movies much and I didn’t really like the kmovie of My Sassy Girl lols. I liked the drama Sassy Girl though, but that’s korean. And isn’t the file size for dramas extremely massive in RAW?

  10. efs UNITED STATESon 28 Apr 2008 at 8:25 am

@blissmo The file size is usually about 700mb for an episode the first episode was 60 minutes so it was a little bigger. We are the group subbing it, and we have ep 1 subs out. you can find them and the torrents for the raws at d-addicts.

I’ve found that drama raws have always been huge, but since I’m a “watch then delete” kinda gal it doesn’t matter anyway
