Special A - 02

Published by Hinano at 8:27 pm under Special A

This episode basically covered chapter 5 of the manga. In regards to the beginning part with the re-introduction of the characters - it’s something they did in the manga for the first couple of chapters. It’s kinda of annoying though in the anime since like “yes we know who they are and no we don’t care what place they’re in other than Kei and Hikari’s 1/2″. I hope the anime doesn’t follow suit and keep doing the character introduction thing for the next few episodes.

This week also featured the new opening which none of my blogger buddies liked. Well I honestly don’t blame them. It wasn’t as annoying as Hikari’s speaking voice but it just sounded like one of those flat and forgettable shoujo anime theme songs from the 90s. When they brought in the sick student council president and I heard his voice all I could think of is “this is the most miscast anime I’ve ever seen.”

I’m over the legs, yes they’re long, whatever. But the voices I just can’t seem to get used to. What I don’t get is, the first time I heard Fukuyama Jun’s voice was in Inukami. It was silly and well fitting. Why can’t that Keita voice come back for Takishima? Why do we instead get Takishima Code Geass version? (Not that I watch Code Gayass but that’s what everyone seems to compare him to.) Hell even the Busou Renkin Kazuki voice will do but currently I feel like Takishima sounds like some sort of “for great justice!” type of guy which he isn’t. He only gives a damn about Hikari and everyone else can go f*** themselves.

The more I watch this show the more I dislike Yuko Goto. Has anyone gotten used to this voice? Does anyone actually like it? It’s just so unfitting. I mean I could deal with it for Miyu in KimiAru since it feels kinda tsuntsun but Hikari isn’t a tsundere. She’s just naturally dense. She’s like the Tamaki from Ouran who thinks that Haruhi is his daughter rather than a love interest. Similarly Hikari sees Kei as her rival….rather than a love interest (at least until volume 7 or 8). So due to this I have trouble enjoying the anime.

When I fliipped through chapter 5 of the manga again, I thought to myself “why does this scene feel more impacting in a still image than a moving animation?” I’m just going to blame it on the miscasting and overdramatizing of the whole thing. I’m hoping the story itself will eventually overpower the awful casting and we’ll be too busy enjoying that to pay attention to Hikari’s sqeaks…but for now, let’s keep a pair of mental earplugs close by.

Upcoming Attractions: Hikari attempts (and fails miserably) to make a bento for Kei.

Yuuko Goto does best as a SHAFT (or otherwise) side character. She doesn’t need to play a main role, and nobody knows what they’re thinking by even letting her sing an OP. :S

totali> I honestly thought she was a good voice for Mikuru and since I hate SHAFT (btw their name makes me think of cocks  ) I haven’t really seen her in the “good” roles as you say. Her Miyu wasn’t so bad but this role is awful.

This one is kinda disappointing me. I love the manga but I’m not enjoying the anime as much as I hoped I would, and I agree that the voices are a big part of the problem.
Maybe I’m just enjoying Soul Eater to much and then I watch this one and it isn’t the same… I don’t know. I hope it gets better.

Yea that’s the feeling I have…like something is missing or perhaps beind dampered down by the voices…or maybe character design..I dunno.

Lydia lurves Code Gay-Ass! For serious.

Have you watched Kyouran Kazoku Nikki? It looks interesting and random to me. I have not watched it yet, though.

Lydia> Yea I thought it was pretty retarded. The character designs (especially those square faces & noses) were out of wack. I mean some guy marrying some cat girl in the first episode? Sorry not for me.

She was wonderful as Mikuru, and those moe-inducing characters. As a seiyuu, Yuko Goto is pretty competent. However, it is definitely clear now that she cannot sing, AND SHOULD NOT BE SINGING.

That’s all. I think my hatred of Hikari’s denseness is coming soon. Like every darn soon.

Haha I have somewhat forgiven her but then again I’m on like volume 12 of the manga XD

I’m so disappointed on how this show is turning out. :’( I thought Ouran had more planning and organization (for the anime) than this. I was actually expecting it to be much better since SA characters are much more normal (as normal as you can get compared to Ouran chracters.) Yeah it sucks to compare the two, but you can’t help because when you read the manga, you can see some similarities in the two.

I’m gonna wipe my tears with the manga, which is far way better.

well I think Bones has a better animation team in general than say…Studio DEEN + Gonzo lol.

Uh, OP sucks, I don’t care for actual song, but the feeling doesn’t fit for a shoujo series, imo. It’s like a generic OP for Bamboo Blade, but with meh music. Anyway… ^^

I’m actually really enjoying this show. Typically, I end up hating shoujo series because of the “oh-so-cool”, silent and distant type of male lead that pisses me off so much, but Kei is actually a decent, very likeable male lead.

Looking forward to the next ep! :)
(For the record, I totally dislike Itazura na Kiss.)

Man. That was awful. I was just so annoyed whilst watching that episode. I’m really just in it for the rabu rabu relationship stuff but I don’t know how much more I can take of the challenges and rankings crap. I really thought this would be a show I’d like although the studio didn’t really fill me with confidence. I’m only sticking around for the promise of things to come but I’m mightily close to dropping it. Maybe the manga is the best way to go… I think the comparison to Tamaki is pretty apt. Difference seems to be that he was, to me at least, a more likable dumb character. I guess it might be harsh judging Hikari on two episodes but still.

Looks like Itazura is gonna be my romance fix and I’ve already seen it one form or another

Man, that opening sucks @$$. And all those flowers and colors and stuff everywhere hurts my eyes. I love Soul Eater’s opening though. <3 It’s AWESOME!
