Believe it or not, some big companies allow domestically produced doujin to exist (simply because of tradition; they don’t actually support it and would probably love to stamp everything out, but are afraid of alienating the core fanbase who’ve grown accustomed to buying and selling derivative works), but are quick to shoot down any foreign efforts.

DLSite’s out to avoid any potential hassle. I guess the foreign market is just too small for them to take seriously.

Yea haha I totally noticed that. Like I said it’s possible a lot of their dumb policies are broken. It’s dumb that they allow Japanese people to make “parody” doujins, but oh god forbid someone outside Japan does it. I’d think that someone doing it OUTSIDE Japan they would care less since they are not a Japanese citizen and could fall under the “they don’t know Japanese the characters just look similar” crap or something?

I dunno, but Kyonko doujin i’m not making because none of you kyonko fans would buy it anyway…while I do have confidence that based on my poll Shugo Chara would actually sell

Actually, I looked through the “recent reviews” page on DLSite english version and right on the front page there was an obviously lolicon (borderline toddlerkon) title, for sale to US. Plus other titles like “Rape! Rape! Rape!” and “Jizz in my Sister.”

Is there “policy” like just random “make us look good” nonsense?

US law does allow it as long it falls under “parody”, problem is a lot of doujinshi are not much of a parody but are in fact “derivative works” (anyone is going to argue that Re-Take is a parody? its a NGE re-telling of what happened during instrumentality).

Also Kyoto Animation cannot sue you for your Haruhi doujinshi since Nagaru Tanigawa created her, Kadokawa Shoten might because they publish it (and likely are the rights holders).

Edit: LOL … really? I guess rape is not antisocial behavior in Japan then …

And really, the fact that they also prohibit:

“Works that promote antisocial behavior.”
“Works that expresses and supports extreme cult, religious or political activity.”
“Works which express sex with unethical concept.”

under their “ethics / moral Compliance Policy.” Fuck you, DLSite. I would never buy a product from you.

Well, DLSite has to do their best not to get sued by companies for hosting works based off copyrighted material too, I guess.
