Proposal Daisakusen Special (aka Grand Finale!)
Hey
guys wordpress 2.5 is out! That will be updated tomorrow but more importantly, better late than never here is my Proposal Daisakusen special post. As we all had hoped, basically the special literally jumps right into where the last episode of the drama left off. The beginning of the special gives us flashbacks of what happened in case you missed it, but in case you did, you can always go back and read my posts
Anyway the beginning is kinda silly because they waste time showing Rei and Ken on the beach as usual arguing with each other (about the fact that if Ken found her shoe that was lost in the ocean she’d marry him right then and there) but concluding their argument with a hug.
A year passes and it looks like Ken is running late to another “ceremony”. I thought for sure that this was his own wedding …but of course not. It was actually the wedding between Eri and Tsuru. Unfortunately for Tsuru (and everyone who came of course), Eri became a run away bride and flew back to Japan. Oh yes I forgot to mention how the wedding was in Hawaii. I suppose that a flight from Japan to Hawaii is cheaper than from New York to Hawaii…so perhaps those who flew there weren’t as pissed as say….if I were to fly there.
Anyway Ken feels really bad and he really wants to help Tsuru out so Mr. Fairy shows up again. He lets Ken go back into the past as always to basically play cupid and fix whatever problems are between Eri and Tsuru. Before he goes though, we see Rei talking on the phone to Eri and she finds out that a month before the wedding Tsuru had been out late, and when Eri tried to spy on him she found numbers of random women on his cell phone. OH NOES! UWAKI!?
When Ken goes back to the past it’s not only to fix Tsuru and Eri’s problems, it’s also to work out the ones between himself and Rei. The first place he gets thrown into is his past self apologizing to the sensei (I forgot his last name but I know his first name is Tetsu!) for ruining his wedding. Tetsu tells him that he has never thought it was Ken’s fault (another Japanese lie) and that he realizes that Rei’s feelings had changed the moment he saw her crying at Ken’s speech. Also Tetsu’s childhood friend shows up…and they’re totally meant for each other.
I think Ken even asked if the childhood friend liked Tetsu and she said they’re at a point where there is no “like or dislike” but he told her he thought the same thing until the day he saw Rei getting married. Wait, shouldn’t she have seen Rei getting married too…? She WAS at the ceremony ya know. Ken you dork. Soo anyway when Ken runs into Tsuru he finds out Tsuru has “work” on the weekend.
He thinks this is suspicious and perhaps a sign of what caused the discord in the future. He convinces Mikio and Rei to follow Tsuru and as they keep following him they see him with a different woman every time. They even range in age from young women to old ladies lol.
Eventually they follow him and stop him at some ho’ bar and when they arrive at Eri’s house they see her running out crying with Rei running after her.
It turns out Eri called Tsuru’s work only to find out that he has never come to work on the weekends. Anyway Ken chases and catches up to them (damn he ran FAR wtf?) He then asks them to come with him and he brings them to that usual restaurant they go to. There he plays a tape he had in his hands and that tape basically has recordings of Tsuru and other women…asking them to give blessings to their wedding. All the women are random women who were in Eri’s life at some point in time. (Hey remember that girl you ate lunch with in 1st grade? Yea she works at a whore bar now lol!)
Anyway Eri is happy, thinks have worked out all is good. When they are driving home, Ken turns around and drives to Rei’s house. There he appologizes to her parents saying he had ruined a big day for her and for them. When he’s about to leave Rei’s dad tells him to wait and says basically what Ken has done was not a mistake. When they walk out of Rei’s house her mom tells them that Rei’s dad is just acting tough but he’s totally ok with it. She then fakely asks Ken to come over for dinner some time and he fakely says ok. (LOL I love being able to point out white lies!
)
Anyway times passes, Mikio snaps a photo and Ken is back to the present…at Eri and Tsuru’s wedding. He’s so happy but at the same time sad because nobody realizes of his efforts…and that if it wasn’t for him this wedding wouldn’t be happening. Rei thinks there’s something wrong with his head and Mr. Fairy appears. He tells Ken that he’s tired of America and he’s going to Spain and tells Ken to have his wedding in Spain. Also I loled at the beginning where Ken had to say “Hallelujah Chance” in ENGLISH rather than Enrish (Hareruya Chansu!) Also Rei had to slap his ass to get him to come back to reality xD.
After the ceremony Ken walks with Rei on the beach and brings her over to a boat. There he pulls out a pair of white high heels for her to wear referring back to the beginning of the special. Unfortunately the shoes are the wrong size and Rei tells him he’s always like that. Always a glass half full etc. However she then pulls out the ring that he meant to give her during that time where he stuck it on the “Don’t Knock New York” statue of liberty. Rei had kept it ever since Eri gave it to her when she found it. And with this Ken tells Rei he will make her happy forever, and just as she did like 12 years ago or whatnot, Rei bows and says “yoroshiku onegaishimasu” and they finally kiss.
I was disappointed at the kiss scene. It looked like he was kissing the side of her lips or something ^^; Darn, I wanted to see some scene of them getting married but ah well I’ll take when I can get. Also I was reminded how much I love that “wooh baby wooh baby” song again (Ashita Hareru Kana). And finally this drama is relevant to my interests

Thanks for the detail summary. It would take an eternity — at least that’s how it feels — until it gets subbed.
I did fast scanned through the episode though and understood a bit, limping on my half-ass Japanese; but this SP didn’t offer up the same level of angst and hopelessness as the original series. The same music was there; the same cast was there; the same plot device of time travel was there. But they all feel old and stale somehow.
The only thing the SP did for the story was the final scene at the beach where Ken placed the ring on Rei and kissed her. It served as a confirmation of their love and brought the entire story to a grand finale, as you called it.
That was it.
The rest was just to stretch time so that they can call this a full episode.
Thaaaanks for the summary….we would have to wait a billion years before a subbed version comes out so it’s nice to know what’s going on now.
I can’t wait until the Spring dramas are out….looks interesting!
Yay! This looks like it should be worth watching — it’ll be great to finally see Rei and Ken as a couple
And yes, to hear the theme song again, of course! (Unfortunately I’ve only been able to find a dead torrent for the song … oh, well.)
ZOMGS I have to watch this soon.
haha you’re welcome.
bakaneko I agree that it felt a little stretched out a some points. I was getting restless like “damn how long is this thing” already. xD
Off topic, but have you been watching this season’s Bara no nai Hanaya? The recent episode 10 is among the most emotional episodes in all of jdorama I’ve watched.
bakaneko> No I have not, the drama and the premise never interested me so I’m not gonna bother watching it again. Actually I looked at the drama wiki to remind myself what this was about and I remember I didn’t wanna watch it because I really dislike dramas with little kids…XD I try to avoid them now *_* I do like Katori Shingo and Takeuchi Yuko though ^^
The best j-drama that i’ve ever seen. It’s very nostalgic. Actually, i am little confused about Rei status. Is she divorced with Tada-san?
sugar> I don’t think they got married in the first place. I was under the impression she ran off her wedding? I dunno
This is totally one of the best J-dramas I’ve ever watched, I love the story line and YamaP’s acting is the shit! I mean, every time he cries I seriously can NOT stop myself from crying. And he’s such a pretty boy too. “Hareruya chansu!” is the new “Nobuta powaa!” LOL!
