I TRUCKING LOVED THE CLANNAD MOVIE!1111!!
I don’t care if the animation was ugly or their eyes looked ridiculous, I sat there crying as the freaking credits and terrible dango song played by!!!
Before I go any further you know what the best part of this movie was???

THERE WAS NO FUUKO OR KOTOMI
(Ok so like we saw Kotomi leading some chorus but she had no actual lines so no horrible IJIMEKKO? garbage.) I’m so fucking pumped to write this post!!!111!1
P.S. Movie & game spoilers ahead.
So while they added some stuff that was taken out of the TV series (such as focus on Sunohara which is great btw) they changed a few significant things around - such as making Ibuki sensei STILL in the school and be the sponsor for Nagisa’s play. The other weird part was when during the play, Tomoya sorta froze. Uh actually it was Nagisa who was supposed to freeze with her parents and Tomoya cheering her own to continue the play. Also the random Tomoya “SUKI DA!” thing on stage was shocking haha. I still wish they coulda had a kiss. I remember when I watched the air movie and Misuzu and Yukito kissed I was all like
So really I can’t believe how much better Clannad is when Kotomi is minimized to nothing but an orchestra director and Fuuko is just gone period. It’s like the atmosphere was so much LESS ANNOYING! And oh man it’s so great to see Tomoyo and Kyou cooperating rather than bitch fighting! I did miss a little bit of Ryou, Button, and Mei though. But that’s okay, that’s nothing in comparison to the weight of ANNOYANCE that’s been lifted off the entire atmosphere.
Also I loved how they focued on the whole lunch room insanity scene. That was totally in like every girl’s story in the game but Kyou ani pretty much skipped it. Like how did Nagisa get that an-pan? Why didn’t they show her fighting her way through a mob of people lmao.
Also Sunohara and Akio were more awesome than usual. Sunohara especially standing up for Nagisa-chan like that was great.
It was also good to see Nagisa live action at the restaurant. Although in the game it was Akio & Tomoya who went to tease her at her job, rather than Tomoya & Sunohara. Btw did everyone like Sunohara’s normal hair? It was a bit off color though for some reason but at least it wasn’t blonde. Also seeing everyone grown up was really cool especially Tomoyo, Kyou and Sunopi
So the part where Tomoya’s dad visits him, made me cry
I think the problem with the scenes that made me cry, is I wasn’t crying at the scene in the movie, but I was crying at the memory of the scene from the game. In the game Tomoya sorta realized himself after speaking to his grandma about his dad. His dad didn’t directly go to Tomoya telling him the obvious - although I suppose that’s a way to save some footage.
I also cried at the end when I heard Ushio’s voice. USHIOOOOOOOO
Oh god Ushio and THAT ending. T_______T Ushiooooooo
So now I’m thinking like what’s KyoAni gonna do? If Nagisa dies in the movie ending, is KyoAni gonna follow suit? Are they gonna go with the alternative end? Will they combine both? It’s weird cause you gotta like have Nagisa die to have Nagisa LIVE. Wonder what they’ll decide to do…
Also I think in the movie Nagisa had a lot more dangos than she had in the game XD;; Also why were there cancan girls at the school festival?
I also didn’t particularly like Tomoya’s voice but whatever. Oh and in the game Nagisa actually had the baby in the apartment with a midwife…she didn’t exactly have the high tech technology of a hospital ^^; They did eventually have to get a doctor to come help due to her weak body though.
Anyway everyone who likes Nagisa should see this movie. Everyone who played the game and likes Nagisa MUST see this movie. It made me cry anyway, it was fucking awesome. Too bad KyoAni, your pretty animation didn’t make me cry. Maybe if you stopped putting in pooko fillers and cockblocking and bitch fights, I might have shed a tear. ![]()

I like how the dangos have a car in this version.
lol the movie did get me teary esp the end.
Wow what a hater, I love Kotomi so there! Kotomi’s arc in the game is by far my favorite, and I’m weak for her moe~ Animation in this is really fugly though, the Air movie seemed better to me.
I also cried at the end when I heard Ushio’s voice. USHIOOOOOOOO
Oh god Ushio and THAT ending. T_______T Ushiooooooo
Once again, THAT ending wrecked me for way too long. I was bawwing over Nagisa, and then I keep going. As the end was approaching I said to myself, “oh no they won’t, they won’t do that to me.” And then they did, goddammit. And the true ending was way too short and had annoying Fuko crap in it, so it really didn’t make up for it ~_~
Maybe I will watch this… since it’s not made by some crappy bunch.
IMHO, Toei actually has more decisiveness to go through a particular path. Eyecandy doesn’t make a good show.
lol!
I was hoping there would be a different opinion from someone who played the game actually. I dunno though, presentation can have a lot to do with how emotionally attached you are to a character….bias can too.
Not gonna lie, I thought the dango car was pretty freaking awesome.
Even as a Noto Mamiko fanboy, this is the only time when I’m glad she’s not in a movie. Kotomi (and Shijou in KimiKiss) is my least favorite type-casting for her. Which reminds me, I still haven’t watched Mnemosyne 2; Rin is the complete opposite of this moeblob.
Seeing as I’m one of the few people who doesn’t fashionably-hate Toei, and that the most frustrating thing about galge anime is when they try to cram every single possible route together, I think there’s a good chance I’ll like the movie. It’d be hard for me to like it any less than the TV series.
This movie was OK, but it did not have the delightful Fuuko and Kotomi. How can it be a Clannad movie without those lovably endearing characters. How much better it would have been if, in the middle of some random scene, Fuuko had suddenly appeared to amuse us with her antics.
Kore Douzo!! Nandeyanen!!
Long live the dangos!
I didn’t like the movie because it butchered most of the themes, almost all of the symbolism and changed the personality of some characters. I don’t mind adaptations changing the plot around, but it’s a big no-no to change the themes.
It was much better than the Air movie in that regard though. From a gamer’s point of view, about a pass. (6.5/10)
Wanna see it!!!!
Jeez, so no game good ending in the movie?
PURGE THE WITCH WITH HOLY PROMETHIUM IN THE NA- Oh wait. Don’t think anyone would appreciate WH40K.
OK, tiem to be watching Clannad movie, QUALITY Nagisa and all
Sure they made a few characters OC (like Koko’s super karate moves) but it was still in good fun. Nothing compares to the atrocity of Fuuko’s idiot random showups during serious scenes in the tv series
For the Holy Emperor of Mankind! Banish those Chaos agents! Holy Terra shall be cleansed of all heretics.
@ DrmChrO: actually i appreciate it…
(with living saint Shana and Callidus Assassin Noir, no less)
Inquisitor Van Evok leads my Sisters of Battle force
and had few good laughs with “Marciano’s 12 sisters” kill team
Interesting! I dropped Clannad TV around the halfway mark. Simply put, Fuuko and Kotomi were far too annoying to watch.
Then again, I liked the changes to the AIR movie even if there were significant flaws. IMO, the writers successfully excised much annoying crap (i.e. Misuzu’s ridiculous antics, that overblown curse thing, Potato, etc.), so Osamu Dezaki must have viewers like me in mind.
There was no Fuko and it was still a great movie! Must be worth watching then!!!!
Finally found time to watch it. That was a big OH SHIT moment.
“Ushio’s getting big, y’know”.
OH SHIT. They did the time skip which means…
Yep.
I think I would’ve cried IF they had done THE Ushio ending. Which they didn’t. No Clannad Good End either.
Hope to God that KyoAni does the true end. Somehow.
I guess we’re fortunate in a sense that Kyoani and Toei are happy following such different paths when it comes to adapting the Key games.
Certainly talking to most anime fans the Kyoani versions are much more popular, but personally they make me want to pull my hair out with their complete absense of composition, just yanking scenes straight out of the games and lining them up such that it fills up 24 minute blocks. To me watching Sunohara urinate against a wall felt truer to his character than the TV series’ complete reinactment of the scene where Tomoyo sends him down the dust shoot, despite never appearing in the visual novel.
The Dezaki/Nakamura matchup with never have the popularity of the Masters of Moeblob, but I’m glad they’ve kept at it. Roll on Little Busters (and actually give us the blu-ray next time).
I am now a Nagisa fan wwww.
Also, hell yeah, no Fuko!
oh man, that was so damn sad <333
[...] see Hinano’s post, more specifically the last paragraph. Nuff said right [...]
I hated the fuuko poooooping out scenes
….crap i loved the movie
