It was tollerable until I read the manga.

Published by Hinano at 6:16 pm under Rants & Raves, Unsorted

Koyasu is probably what keeps me watching this show.

Just for the record, yes I am still watching Rosario to Pantsu. Mostly because it’s fun to make fun of it in NicoNico comments. But you know, I said it before and I’ll say it again, now that I’m actually caught up in the manga as far as where the anime is, I’m sitting there going “what the fuck just happened to the story?” The story of the Newspaper Club going and taking notes on the human world, turned into a giant melon fest, destroyed any purpose of any remains of this story but they still attempted to make something of it in the end. It’s like how do you put together a Thanksgiving Turkey with chunks of pig fat? I dunno but GONZO is trying damn hard. I mean if they’re gonna stick it to being a melon and panty fest, why actually TRY to follow the story? Why not just make up some more filler monsters like that one episode and just have Moka kick her way through the rest of the series.

This really is turning out to be Gonzo’s most epic failure.

I pretty much agree with what you say. The show had such potential, but they really adapted it horribly. I mean, shows don’t have to be exactly like the manga, there are times when shows have departed from original material and been fine, but not in this case…

At least they got Mizore in a lot earlier than in the manga (which waits until like volume 4 or something), she’s the best part of that show. Something to do with Rie Kugumiya’s low and slow voice and the moeness of that character…

I think its volume 5, just when “Bracelet+Ghoul” starts to kick in.

And I never watched this since Hinano made compared the 1st episode with the manga chapter so I realized what Gonzo was going to pull from the start.

have u guys forgotten that gonzo is just an animation studio?

  4. Ravage NETHERLANDSon 28 Feb 2008 at 7:26 pm

Meh, pretty much every GONZO show is an epic failure(all their manga to anime adaptations at least, Last Exile, Gankutsuou and the likes are very good).
I wish I could still drop this series but when I had seen up ’till ep 5 already for reasons completely unknown to me, I was like: “Hmm, I’ll survive those other 8 eps in a weekly dose, so I’ll just continue on”.

I found that Naruto-ing the series(running it at twice the speed) makes it 14,3 times more fun, as well as ending it twice as fast, it’s a win-win situation.

Btw, I never saw Dragonaut, because I knew it was going to be unbelievably terrible just by seeing it’s disciption and watching the trailer, but I’ve heard it is indeed worse then R+V, any truth to that?

  5. Drakron PORTUGALon 28 Feb 2008 at 7:38 pm

    What you mean?

You are not going to tell me with a strait face that Gonzo did not created their own series.

Ever heard of Last Exile? Kiddy Grade? Gravion?

Gonzo is not a “pure” animation studio that only deals with animation, they are a studio in the FULL sense of the word.

It seems Gonzo is only good when working with someone else (Vandread, Seto no Hanayome) … you have people that still did not forgiven then from what they did to Hellsinger, let alone the horrors that is MILFblade and Dragontits

  6. Hinano UNITED STATESon 28 Feb 2008 at 8:17 pm

Lol Dragontits. I think boobnaut is just as bad as R&V but on a different level. in R&V they’re making it bad like in an OBVIOUS way but in boobnaut they try to hide it but it’s hard to hide a bunch of saggy melons

100% agree. This series is worse than “Real Bout High” which I N-E-V-E-R though they’d be able to top.

  8. Ravage NETHERLANDSon 28 Feb 2008 at 8:23 pm

Yeah, I said their original work is good(Last Exile and Gankutsuou(well, a véry loose interpretation of the original story, but still very good) ), but they suck badly at manga adaptations, which regrettably is the kind of work they mostly tend to take on. :(
Their FMP season + Black Cat where pretty decent imho, but nothing more, the rest of those were mostly garbage and almost always an insult to the source material. I mean, how hard is it to stay close to the original storyline/art/characters, GONZO?

They CAN do a good series, but their good/great work is immensely overshadowed by all the junk they’ve produced.
Maa~, that’s my opinion at least.

Yea I mean I actually loved Gatekeepers, Vandread. Black Cat & Chrno Crusade weren’t the greatest but weren’t that awful either. It’s like they just get worse and worse

well i’v gotta agree wif u hina.. this anime is abit …. too much pantsu scene compare to the manga… but the thing is.. things really start to kick in once moka pumps her vampire blood into tsukine

  12. Hinano UNITED STATESon 28 Feb 2008 at 8:51 pm

padfoot> oh I know, that’s why I’m pissed off that the anime is the way it is. the manga gets really cool but the anime is still in crapland

  13. Ryunatta BAHAMASon 28 Feb 2008 at 9:14 pm

In the words of inner Moka

    Gonzo ” Know your place!”.

  14. Hinano UNITED STATESon 28 Feb 2008 at 9:20 pm

    Ryunatta> LOL! Good one!

  15. Haesslich CANADAon 28 Feb 2008 at 9:47 pm

Heck, I wish Bones had ended up with this - they did a decent adaptation of Ouran Host Club… and I think they could’ve done well with this, especially given that it actually had something of a story and had a comedy/harem angle they could’ve probably managed.

As it is, I’m starting to wonder if whoever’s been doing the directing for this series hates the manga (like Bokurano’s director did), and is doing their best to butcher the series.

  16. Drakron PORTUGALon 28 Feb 2008 at 10:17 pm

My guess Haesslich is butcher and reasons are simple.

The manga is fan service but not over-the-top fan service, Gonzo up the fan service to over-the-top.

Then you have what can be done, you have “Stalker-chan” that shows up at about mid-point that is likely too late so they push up her introduction and so end up screwing her character up.

Then you have “how to end”, this is usually the biggest issue with any media that is animated, from what I read of the manga they been over 2 major events (”Vampire” and “Ghoul”) and the events that lead to then, I can guess they are not even doing the “Ghoul”.

  17. Hinano UNITED STATESon 28 Feb 2008 at 10:24 pm

Haesslich> That’s gotta be it…cause it seems like they are purposely turning it into shit and making it really obvious while at it.

Drakron> Yea they skipped a whole lot of really important stuff hence why I have no idea where they’re even going at this point. :???:

  18. Koji Oe UNITED STATESon 28 Feb 2008 at 11:06 pm

The only good thing GONZO is good at is anymore is failure.

  19. Dm UNITED STATESon 28 Feb 2008 at 11:38 pm

I guess the whole sunflower arc is really drama-filled and climatic, so they decided to end the series there, on a strong note (..and due to length).

BTW: Isn’t Gonzo doing Special A this Spring?

  20. zaeris AUSTRALIAon 29 Feb 2008 at 12:04 am

Obviously they’re arranging chapter. Its going to end at chapter 10 if the ED as any indication.

I doubt you can strech the sunflower arc for 5 episode…… hence there going to use anotehr chapter arc to finish off.

Ghoul or no Ghoul thats a hard question but I’m going to hold my faith it will be the last thing we see.

Some people avoid Gonzo title, so knowing of their good production are harder for those people.

“Basilisk” comes into mind as a well adapted manga to anime. While I do see alot of Gonzo flop I enjoy watching their show for originality and creativity. “Red Garden” comes into mind as something recent with a creative spin.

And yes Gonzo+AIC are working on Special A. these spring, avoid now if your gonzo shy but they did do Seto no Hanayome together but thats not going to convince anyone here ^^.

I haven’t been able to watch much shows lately but that looks a lot like Tripeman

  22. Hinano UNITED STATESon 29 Feb 2008 at 9:46 am

Dm & zaeris> I had no idea Gonzo was doing Special A T_T I really wanted to watch that show but now my expectations have dropped tremendously. Maybe they’ll do a good job though…I like what they did with NHK ni Youkoso at least.

Os> I didnt know you still watched anime! XD

  23. dick jones UNITED KINGDOMon 29 Feb 2008 at 10:49 am

reached the magic chapter number 31 in the manga so i’m up to date there’s hardly any fan service in the manga
anime just isn’t funny, too many up skirt shots and that damned bat with ‘ this fight took xx secs’ chuu!

drakron> thank you! you made my day..dragont*ts and milfblade lol.

hinano > would it be bad of me to add to your woes by asking for a manga summary once in a while plz ? and chrono crusade was great the ending made me sniffle!….chuu!

  24. Hinano UNITED STATESon 29 Feb 2008 at 11:20 am

dick> Manga summary of what? I have manga reviews all the time :P I just dont cover rosario to vampire since scans are readily available. i usually only cover stuff like naruto (since i do combo posts) or any books I buy like shugo chara or kamichama karin

  25. zaeris AUSTRALIAon 29 Feb 2008 at 11:22 am

I’m curious as to why people are so affected by panty shots. Guess I’m immune to fanservice, watching lots of ecchi anime builds up a good immune system /gg. Of course when I watch Nanoha seeing Vivio’s panty shot shocked me a little maybe because she’s a loli

    Drakron@
Milfblade? Witchblade comes into mind if that what you’re talking about. While I haven’t read the actually American comic, I hear it’s quite risqué. Of course everyone watches Witchblade as a T&A fest and action right, thinking otherwise is blasphemy ^^.

  26. Drakron PORTUGALon 29 Feb 2008 at 1:47 pm

Yes, its what some call it … you know the “protagonist” is a mother and I am sure you know what MILF means.

Its also nipponisation, the fact Gonzo picked up something to “4Kid” it just did not sit well with me … (neither did other things … good thing I keep a healthy de-attachment to everything I like, with one exception, so it does not irritates me as much as it disappoints me)

  27. 8GaugeBrett UNITED STATESon 01 Mar 2008 at 3:51 am

Speaking of Dragonaut did anyone catch this screenshot from the latest episode? http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j86/8GaugeBrett/Dragonautfingerslol.jpg

count the fingers, lol. Reminds me of Naruto and the missing head and the shot with his eyes looking different directions.

  28. karasu UNITED STATESon 01 Mar 2008 at 8:44 am

Oh, but-but…but all the butts and boobs!

I mean, come on, I don’t think anyone took R+V’s anime adaptation seriously even from the first episode since. R+V was not much of a fanservice manga so much as a lame 5th grader story evolving into a Tenjou Tenge-style fighting plus discrimination manga. It wasn’t something super-outstanding.

The anime is just a mess, the way they did everything was (I don’t even remember the mermaids in the manga, actually, but they actually spent an entire episode on it, including several drama cd songs) just crappy fanservice. Well, as long as Gonzo makes money, I’m sure no one minds (for some reason people still watch it, yeah, for some reason >_> I haven’t really seen anyone drop it yet)

  29. Hinano UNITED STATESon 01 Mar 2008 at 9:40 am

Brett> LOL 6 fingers xDDD

karasu> The mermaids were in the manga but making a whole episode for them (not to mention a huge melon fest) was retarded

  30. zaeris AUSTRALIAon 01 Mar 2008 at 10:51 am

    @karasu
The mermaid arc was chapter 3 you probably read R+V eon ago right? I’ve only started reading the manga because of the anime. Not much into reading manga but the anime got me curious, so all and all I like the anime. I do find it pleasant and as for manga adaptation, well I treat both medium differently and expecting faithfulness is zero to me. Since I can’t remember any Studio going for faithful adaptation these days. Negima comes into mind, 2 separately done by different studio and yet neither of them capture the essence of the manga and lol who could forget the live action.

Reminds me of D.Gray Man when everyone complained about how the filler ruin the anime.

  31. Hinano UNITED STATESon 01 Mar 2008 at 10:56 am

The most accurate adaptation I’ve seen to date is the Law of Ueki

  32. Drakron PORTUGALon 01 Mar 2008 at 5:40 pm

History’ Strongest Student Kenichi that besides some changes at the start, some filler and some omissions its exactly as the manga chapters.
