RenAi Game Review: Girlfriend of Steel 2
In an
ongoing attempt to clear our my backlog of all sorts of dating sim games dating back to like 4 months ago, I decided to start by playing Asuka’s route in the GOS game. There’s Rei and Kaworu (for all the yaoi fangirls) too but well I hate Rei, and I’m not into gay, and I frankly would rather see Kaworu and Rei get it on with themselves than with Shinji. 
Anyhoo the biggest surprise to me was uh…where is Mana? Wasn’t the whole Steel Girlfriend thing supposed to revolve around her? I’m not really sure how this time around the game relates to her in any way. (Or maybe it’s not supposed to, someone enlighten me.)
Let me start out by saying this is the worst dating sim type game I’ve ever played. Not because of the art, not because of the (lack there of) story (or pr0n) but the actual game play itself. I followed this guide, and thank god the person told me where to click because trying to figure out the kanji/locations for all the districts and the geofront rooms maps made my head spin. (Don’t even get me started on the map of the stupid cave.)
The game started out by shoving Asuka’s cooter into your face. That’s great Gainax. On top of that they have her going “don’t look!” I honestly have no idea how you could get that kind of POV when riding behind her on a bike unless she was just sticking it purposely into Shinji’s face. Anyway the premise is as usual Asuka & Shinji are childhood friends, but you could basically call them a married couple. Asuka is also a lot more DereDere this time around - unless of course you get on her bad side, in which case if you do, it’s Game Over anyway. (or in one scenario Shinji turns into Robo-Cop. 
)
She’s so deredere that she asks you to take half nude photos of her. What she does, or what Shinji does with those photos is probably real obvious. (End of Eva scene 1 anybody? 
) Throughout the game you basically have to do as she says, take her shopping (for ugly earrings) and pay attention to her instead of playing your own dating sims lol.
They try to get some sort of “plot” going by introducing Rei as the new transfer student (kinda like how you saw at the end of the Eva TV series) and they have scenes of Kaworu hitting on Shinji claiming he has no interests in women (except for Rei - woohoo that got me excited for a bit there.) They also have everyone pilot 1 type of Eva - except for Kensuke who just ends up being a backup loser like he always is lol. Ironically enough, Kaworu’s “Eva” is one of those ugly white eva series. God I hate those things, I was so happy when Asuka crushed their stupid faces in the movie.
In the scene here it shows Asuka reading a letter from Shinji’s mom who we only see at the beginning anyway. So basically Shinji lives alone and can mack Asuka anytime since Gendo is always doing it with Ritsuko in the Geofront. Really the challenge of the game is, going to all the stupid rooms (with a really annoying interface btw) talking to people for no reason and then trying to navigate your way through maps from hell.
Once you get near the end, Asuka is pretty much all yours and she offers that you two “take a bath together” but of course she’s in her swim suit much to Shinji’s disappointment. Of course she “takes it off” and rubs her boobs against Shinji’s back after he tells her that “she’s good” for him. I would rather him said “suki” or something of the sort so this was actually pretty lame. The scene to follow will be a bit lower down in this entry because it really god me confused.
So after like 7 of the angels simultaneously attack, everyone gets into their evas and defeats them flawlessly with punches and kicks. What was the point of the actual Evangelion scenario again? Ah yes, to torture us with Geofront maps and Kaji’s melon jokes. After they defeat all the angels they’re all reassigned to different locations around the world. I think Kaworu gets sent to Russia lol! Rei to France, Touji to America, Kensuke to Africa, Asuka to Germany and Shinji to a different part of Japan. Asuka however doesn’t want to let him go at the end so she uh takes him to Germany with her. 
Uh well that was interesting. I don’t know if I’m happy or disappointed to be honest. Some parts were fun, but Rei acting all happy was really weird. It’s like imagine Nuku Nuku or Lina Iniverse trying to hit on Ikari Shinji….yea bizarre thought isn’t it. Anyway as an extra here are some more images from the game:

Ok someone explain this scene to me? All we saw was Asuka boob bath scene, next thing we know they’re naked in bed. Did they just do it? Couldn’t they have some some romantic dialogue or something. I feel ripped! Ugh! I was looking forward to this, Gainax you crushed my dreams, you crushed them so hard! 
So speaking of crushing dreams, if I didn’t screencap stuff as I played I’d be short like 100 images at this point. Their “album” is a piece of crap! That scene with the Asuka boob isn’t even in it! Wtf? Half the scenes aren’t even in it and there’s no “Scene playback” so lets say you wanted to see Asuka & Rei shoot eye beams at each other, you’d have to either been lucky to have saved, or have to go through map hell again to get to it. Ugh! What kind of reward is this for completing the stupid game!! 
Needless to say, even if I was morbidly curious, no way in hell I’d ever go through this to get anymore images again.

The only reason why I played this was for Rei. LOL
Otherwise, I would rather be playing Girlfriend of Steel. I felt the storyline was much better, despite lesser user interaction with the game.
And Mana’s hawt!
This kinda reminds me of all of those PC games that get released when Hollywood movies get released. Like, wow Transformers comes out this Tuesday, be sure to pick up the game too! Well they turn out 99.999 percent of the time to be utter shit to just cash in on the name of the title.

double> Yea i think the sole point of this game was like “get shinji to mack it with _____ all you want!” I don’t think they cared about story, it was just something to mesh all the “dating sim” scenes together ^^;
Girlfriend of Steel is about Mana. Girlfriend of Steel 2 actually has nothing to do with the original game, and instead just a weird alternate universe based on Shinji’s little dream sequence in episode 26 of the series.
So yeah, if you want Mana (and who doesn’t?), you have to play the first one.

Rift> XD I’m not really a Mana fan but I wouldn’t doubt the story in the first one is probably much better
I think these games are now old now … also Gainax did the Princess Maker series (at least until 3) so its more like Lucasarts.
As for the first one … well Hinano is linear as heck, the ending is simply based on the last decision.
Also it have plenty of Asuka jealousy and a scene were she implies by dialog that she wants Shinji to rape her (I am not making that up, its plays in Mana’s house) so if you are a Asuka fan you have a lot of that, Rei fans on the other hand … not no much.
Moral: dont play games, play with real girls!
Wow, they have an amazing scene for all those who have longed to see Shinji on the toilet (?)
And the jump from bathtub to bed was just to spare evryone a long sequence where Shinji gets embarrassed Asuka gets angry and has to beat him into submission.

Or hope that the new Eva rebuild (now with added directoral sanity!) gives you that sweet, sweet ending
I think I have 1 but I’m missing GS2 (or the other way around) but by your review I will think twice…argh! I don’t think I listed the game in my games list 0___o

I always loved the AsukaxShinji pair but seeing that this game fails on many levels make me sad.
hmmm…I wonder if your going to cover more games when you have a bit more time hopefully….I just ended up finishing the Ijiwaru my Master trail and gosh….
