Manga Review: Kamichama Karin Chu Vol. 6

Well I checked the Kinokuniya online site and it said that the book was finally in the store so I picked it up. I got the special edition as well which came with a little booklet that contained an “omake” story just like my other special edition did. What I didn’t get is why there was only 1 special edition book left on the shelves. They need to restock more often! :evil: I almost picked up the normal edition bah. But anyway…all this excitement was to be short lived as this turned out to actually be a pretty disappointing volume. In comparison to the amazing work that was Pita Ten, Kamichama Karin is not living up to it and in volume 6 it hit the ultimate pit of generic shoujo story - and not in a good way. :sad:

It all pretty much flew out the window for me the moment Karin suddenly lost her memory. I mean come on, why pull that out of nowhere? As I was reading this I thought “I bet Koge-Donbo was busy playing with Vocaloids and doing NicoNico drawing videos but she had to think of an interesting chapter so she’s like - ah memory loss -..eh good enough. *Draws manga really fast and then goes back to niconico ウマウマ～”. This is also tagged as the 先生しごとしてくださいシリーズ :(

Hey I love NicoNico as much as the next person so I’m down with that but I feel like its affecting her work. The only part of the volume I really liked is the flashback that showed the relationship between Suzuka, Kazuto and Kirihiko. But even that still felt a bit generic - that this whole thing is due to some old love grudge etc. :cry:

The way Karin snapped out of her trance felt even weirder to me. It felt like I was reading like 10 other mangas at once that I’ve read before all mixed into 1 scene. It was so wtf to me when Karin popped out of nowhere like that. That magical feeling I get when I see my favorite pairings get all raburabu…was just not there. :sad: It was so disappointing, it felt rushed - that magical moeee feeling I got (which eventually brought me to tears) in Pita Ten was just not there.

In the end, we discover that the reason Yuki joined the bad guys is because he wanted to save Mion….and he believed the evil Himeka that by destroying Karin’s ring he can do so. Karin and Micchi end up going to the future to “get some answers” and Kazune secretly follows them despite Micchi telling him that he’d just “be in the way”. Oh yea Jin also went into the future because Kirihito reawakened within him again. Also the reason Himeka wants to destroy Karin etc is apparently because she needs the Chaos seeds in order to save Kirika and Kirio from dying or something.

Bleh. :mad: Even the bonus book I got with the special edition was the “they switch bodies” story between Karin & Kazune. It was cute but…meh. I hope it’s just this volume that got unlucky. Every mangaka has a couple of those where they didn’t know what to draw and were maybe busy with real life things so they just did it to get it into their deadline, without putting much thought into the whole thing. Here’s hoping that Volume 7 will make a comeback.

    Eto….GAHHH! I expected this would happen soon ;the rest of the manga was just going tooooooo well…. :sad:

    :sad: I think that koge-donbo had thoughts and didnt know how to express them in a manner that would appeal to the readers and leechers :razz: (refering to the people who dont buy the manga but find a way to read it any way)would get the ultimate shojo experience…. :cry:

    Im guessing that this will all get fixed when tokyopop produces it seeing as how a filler episode from the anime was included in the american safe (lol) manga well thats just me hoping :grin:

    :sad: can u pleaz anwer this pleaz?i really want to know were u got kamichama akrin chu vol 4 5 6.? and why dont u like it i mean i love it but if u could by me all the volums were ever u live ill pay 80$ or how much they all are. I mean i really really really really want thoes bookand and i have to wait anther year for the 4th vol to come out but the 1 2 3 vol come out this year but i just want to know those qestions~~ thxs~ :razz: :razz: :twisted: :neutral: :wink:

    lauren , you can buy them at kinokuniya .
    just go on their website & type in kamichama karin chu in japanese & they`ll show you whether or not they have it in stock .

    Omg…when Karin lost her memories in dis vol,I thought Karin was now suddenly Suzuka or something! :shock:

    Looks like i was wrong..lol. :smile:

    And the Yuuki thing,I just thought be betrayed Karin and the rest of the group for power;kinda like Kirio. :sad: I was running around my house screaming “YUUKI’S A TRATOR” for a while after I saw that.>.>

    I went to this Asian store thats a ltttle ways from my house,and bought kck chu volumes 2,3 and 5.Even though I cannot read much Japanese,I was still able to enjoy them.^^

    In volume 5,near the end,Rika Karasuma was visiting Yuuki in…what seemed like a mental hospital.@_@ I was like “Wtf,what the heck..?” And then of course,I started laughing.xD But I still wonder why Yuuki was in that hospita thing….>.>’

    the first season really didn’t make any sense
