New York’s Weeaboo Land has spoiled me.

Published by Hinano at 3:01 pm under Manga, Unsorted

And because I don’t have a witty image for this post, here’s an ancient logo I did for some fansub group.

So the last 2 days I spent walking around Manhattan’s 2 prominent weeaboo spots: Kinokuniya and Asahiya bookstores in search of Kamichama Karin and Modotte! Mamotte Lollipop Volumes 6. Neither of them had these, even though they were released last week. If this was me 3 years ago, I would have immediately gone home and ordered and overpriced Amazon.co.jp order of said books and everything would have been said and done.

But now what do I do? I walk out empty handed, or with a book on making rice bowl recipes.

I wonder what ever happened to the me who would spend $80 per Amazon order (even though half of that was just the shipping price)? Is it because Amazon.co.jp has a stupid new DHL system where their shipping rates skyrocket and you gotta ship it to work or else no one will be there to pick it up? Is it because I’d rather spend my money on something “greater” like a Broadway show? Or is it simply because my bookshelf is so full that I’ve been selling my old books to BookOff?

I’ve also been reading a lot more scanlations these days. I used to be like “ew I can’t read scanlations” but I guess it’s not so bad anymore. Sometimes I mix & match (I read the first 12 Neuro chapters in English then went on to read the rest in Japanese.) I dunno, maybe I’m just growing out of it. Sometimes I wonder if I didn’t like to draw anime/manga related stuff, if this habit would last that much longer. :?:

Well, you could always have Kinokuniya place an order for you, and only pay an extra $7 (on the total order) for shipping. Pretty convenient I must say. Damn…I need to get into the city one of these days, now that I have money again….maybe next week…

I remember the good ol’ days when I was fanatical about yaoi…and I ordered two Kouji X Kouichi (Digimon Frontier) doujins straight out of Japan with the little Japanese that I knew for $15. I have no clue about what to do with the books nowadays. I wonder if anyone would actually want them, or I’ll get caught for dealing ‘2-D representations of child pornography’.

But yeah, good times of ignorant, oblivious days.

Atashi> Oh noes yaoi doujins! Thankfully I don’t have anything that isn’t resellable (Bookoff will take back all my manga really) but I had trouble selling some of my old idol magazines (Potato, Junon etc) on ebay

Oh I remember the old days, hopping on a jet to Japan anytime I needed something. Oh so expensive! lol

Don’t Kinokuniya and Asahiya do special orders?

But if you knew you wanted those books, why didn’t you place orders in advance? So no need to wait…

tj> I wanted them but not in advance like…I check every few weeks to see if volume x has come out of a book. I actually don’t keep track like I used to. Another sign of the changing times….

Actually, my most recent Amazon.co.jp order came via FedEx. I was kinda surprised.

The shipping rates are still rape though. I try not to order from Amazon.co.jp unless I absolutely have to.

forget Amazon JP, and go HMV! Just reach 2500 yen and all you need to pay in additional is the handling fee of 300 yen per item. The shipping will be free! On top of that, they ship by EMS, which means no DHL addl charge crap! w00t! Too bad their product lineup is not as complete as Amazon’s… otherwise I’d be buying all my mangas and magazines from them.

ok, this sounded like a spam advertisement lol. But I’m really happy with HMV’s service I really feel like recommending them to people, especially those who aren’t lucky enough to live in a Weeaboo Land xD

I wish there was a Bookoff here… I want to sell my oversized manga phonebooks, they take up too much space =___=
