Manga Review: Kaichou wa Meidosama! Vol. 4

Published by Hinano at 4:01 pm under Manga

Picked up volume 4 yesterday and read it all this morning. Man I love Shoujo manga. It makes me feel so moeeee (w´Д`w) It’s strange like I can read this manga and be like “oh man I LOVE this shit!” then I’ll watch crap like Kimi Kiss and barely move a muscle, other than maybe an anger muscle to do some sort of a rant about how I hate 魔王. The volume was a little disappointing because the last 2 chapters were omakes and “requests” (which are q&as with the fan letters) so not much got accomplished. Every volume I read hoping that one day Misa will give in to Usui’s nanpa attempts. It’s slowly getting there but I guess I just can’t wait 8D! Most of this review is about the Usui x Misa scenes that make me moe etc. Warning: Fangirling ahead.

So the arc with that girl-hating dude was sorta anti-climatic because his hatred came from the fact that his dad told him to like “beware of women” since his mom like walked out on them. So basically the guy grew up with Gynophobia complex and as usual thanks to Misa’s manliness (the problem with this manga is all the guys look hot and some of the girls look sorta masculine ^^;) he got over it just a tad. Also his “hypnotization” never really worked that well, at least not on Usui.

So then came the obligatory summer episode where everyone went to the beach house of the maid cafe’s sister to help out. Their thing was to wear bikinis and aprons but Usui isn’t having Misa run around showing her “stuff” to other men! He grabs her in a very hawt way and gives her a hickey on the back so she’s forced to wear a shirt and shorts 8D …ンフ~

She’s sorta upset that she can’t go into the bath with everyone because they’ll see the hickey but it’s mainly because she’s got a weakness: she’s afraid of ghosts. How cute :P She acts like she’s ok though and when Usui comes after her (when she runs off alone) she gets scared from “random sounds in the forest” and of course we get the obligatory hug scene with her trembling and grabbing onto his shirt. *dies of Moe overload 8D*

They also later have a volleyball tournament in which Usui ends up going against Misa but mainly because he didn’t want her to get the “princess” prize when he wasn’t going to be the “prince”. (Isn’t he so adorable?? 8DDD) But during the game she almost bumps into a latter/pole and he saves her therefore hurting himself and making Misa’s team auto win. (The trap was on Misa’s team and because they won, the trap was allowed by the sister to dress in drag rather than walk around like a shota that he is.) So as usual the mangaka teases us by having them almost kiss and interrupted by something - in this case a big bang of fireworks. Nuuuu o(*≧ω≦*)o

Upcoming Attractions: Next volume will be out Spring 2008, so probably March or April. Looks like something about Misa “protecting” the maid cafe from something (although most likely Usui will save her butt like he always does. I wish she’d just cut him some slack and give him some REAL THANKS if you get my drift.)

Liinae> No it’s not :P The art is slightly better in my opinion and has a lot more romance rather than just silly slapstick that ouran mostly encompasses

how much did each volume cost?
i really want to buy this series, but i dont live near a jap bookstore and i cant read a lot of japanese.
also i was wondering what you meant by trap…

  15. HinanoNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 25 Feb 2008 at 7:58 pm

Eileen> A trap is a guy dressed up as a girl (and vice versa XD)
Each volume was approximately $5.50-$6 (depending how new it is)
I got it at a Japanese bookstore near me but I think you can probably buy it online somewhere (like amazon.co.jp or ask a special order from sasuga books)
