Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai - 23

Published by Hinano at 10:14 pm under Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni

I spent most of yesterday formatting my computer so while I did watch Shugo Chara and Kimi Faku I couldn’t get to blogging them. Shugo Chara - it was like half filler but half not, Kimi Faku pure spooge - NOO MAO BAD MAO NOOOO. The series is headed in the “NOOOO” direction so expect more of that when I resume blogging it next weekend. So anyway Higurashi what can I say besides YEAHH! The only “boo” was the fact that basically Satoshi has rabies and he’s chained to the bed till god knows when. That’s kinda anti-climatic, I thought he was gonna magically wake up for some tearful reunion scene with Shion. Although Shion’s “Who’s gonna rub my head!” reaction was a bid…unexpected lol. Seeing Rena, Keiichi and the gang totally beat on the Yamainu was lotsa fun though. Also seeing Shion’s manservant beat everyone and shoot everything like rambo was kicks & giggles. Overall a good episode, is next week the grand finale?

The series is slated for 24 episodes, so next week’s episode is indeed the final one.
Unless, they want to put an OVA after the final episode.

    Drm>

Ren> I doubt there will be an OVA but it does make sense if they’ll decide to “conclude” it next week, pretty much everything is set up for the grand finale.

I said OVA because there is one story arc that takes place about two months after this current story arc we are watching, called Saikoroshi-hen (Dice Killing Chapter). But this story arc is only exclusive in the HiguRei series, which I don’t know if they ever make an OVA with that story arc.

I know it can be frustrating to see Mao turning to the Kouichi side after being so focused on Kai at the beginning. But it’s not at all unrealistic. There were warning signs from their very first date, that their ambitions may not be compatible. Also, this wouldn’t be the first time someone rushed headlong into a relationship only to realize later that what she has may not be what she wants. I’ve seen it happen in real life - with me as the loser point of the triangle, in fact.

And it’s not like Mao’s attraction to Kouichi came out of the blue. Throughout the series and especially this last episode, it’s been shown that she has a connection to and understanding of him, probably because of their childhood friend status, that may be deeper and stronger than “Damn, Kai is hot and talented.”

You were worried about Kimikiss getting 10 episodes of To-Heart-flavored filler, dragging the Yuumi-Kouichi blushfest out for far too long. But now we’re getting some conflict and drama. You shouldn’t be complaining.

Although Kimikiss has weak spots and many “only happens in anime” moments, it manages to tell a realistic and dynamic set of love stories without supernatural phenomena. Without girls fading from memory like Clannad, robots like To Heart, magical trees like Da Capo, or surrealistic, mentally damaged girls like ef (which is still awesome though), Kimikiss just keeps it real. It would be the best show of this season if it weren’t for Minami-ke.

    J.C.Staff fanboy, signing off.

I didnt get the sub yet, Hinano, and I am not so fluent in Japanese, but the meaning of the scene was obvious…
@ ghost: wrong thread? anyway I like Kimikiss too, because it is somewhere in the middle ground between reality and datingsimland…

ewok> no hes in the right thread, I did mention kimi kiss at the begining of my post.

sixten> I figured you’d come defending it :P I had my fill of “reality” shows when tokimeki memorial and bokura ga ita aired this year and it frustrates me when the pairings i like dont come true lol

I think I’m still enjoying Shugo Chara because I made it a point -not- to read the manga, after coming to the realization I can do nothing but trash manga-based anime if I have something to compare it to. =p

It does bother me that Satelight can somehow animate this just fine but couldn’t pull it together for Kamichama Karin… but I guess they needed a new cash cow and this is it.

sixten> Hey, don’t forget about Myself; Yourself too, which this past episode it had a surprising twist with one of the characters (if anyone have been following this anime from the start, which is also still awesome episode by episode by its plot).
