Manga Review: Sumomomo Momomo Vol. 8
Been a while
since I did a post on this right? I was reading the manga well into the show and after the anime ended abruptly (on a disappointing number may I add - I mean 22 wtf?) I sorta kept on with the manga chapters. (I missed ch. 54 though but anyway) I was at Kinokuniya and since Shugo Chara vol 5 was not yet available I gave into my temptations and bought volume 8. I can never leave Kinokuniya without buying something (●´艸`).
So anyhoo if you basically ended with the anime here’s a brief catchup. Things between Momoko and Koushi get better and he ignores her less and actually starts to appreciate her a lot more. There’s a couple random arcs (like with the crazy muscly teacher) but most of the focus is on trap-chan who is a girl told to live as a man. (Or at least I think she was told, that or she just wanted her father to appreciate her and be a good budouka so she decided to be the son he never had - I forgot I read this like over a year ago x_X;.) Anyway after all this, volume 8 begins with Koushi deciding officially that he wants to train as a budouka with his father’s help.
First I’d like to mention that the art has become incredibly good since Volume 1. It’s a lot more smoother now and really pleasant to look at when reading. Second of all, this is a seinen manga, so it has no furigana - hence why when they went into complex budou terms I was pretty much lost…despite that though I managed to grasp most of what was going on. (I trained myself with Kimi wa Petto which had the same problem except it was Jousei manga.)

So anyway Koushi’s training doesn’t go so well and his father gets angry thinking he’s not taking it seriously. Koushi gets angry saying that he’s trying his best and it’s not like he’s doing this because he really wants to (but more like he has to or else Momoko will get hurt and possibly die for him.) Yeaaa that doesn’t go so well, eventually Koushi apologizes and his father is so touched he goes off on a journey lol.

So now it’s up to Koushi’s Budouka Buddies(tm) to help him except the girls seem to have things other than training in mind. Btw the top one is trap-chan, except rather than having a girly crush on Koushi she just wants to do manly things with him

Enter Yuusuke. He’s one of the tiger gang that we never saw before and his goal is to win Momoko’s heart. Rather than doing it forcefully, he’s trying to do it the bishie way.

Problem is Momoko only has eyes for Koushi. Multiple times, even when Yuusuke saves her, she only sees Koushi and runs yelling “SUKI!” to him just for standing there and shaking in his boots lol. Problem is Yuusuke only pretends to be a nice bishie, but when he’s with his gang buddies he gets pissed off and breaks things (and maybe people) with his golf club.

Missed our big boobed friend here? Yea TenTen is back to cause more chaos, so if you thought she learned her lesson - well she’s a pretty persistent woman.

She goes as far this time as to toy with Momoko’s feelings for Koushi by having her yell out (via megaphone) to the whole school that she wants to do it with Koushi. (It started as “being married to K.I.kun” and went to sex when TenTen asked the whole class if they’ve ever done it with their boyfriends - and everyone except Momoko raised their hand. Poor Momoko-chan lol.)

So the manga basically ends here which tells me TenTen still has a crush on Hanzou and is incredibly pissed that he’s loyal to Iroha. Iroha in the meantime met up with her dad, who’s being controlled by TenTen’s clan to give up all the Miyamoto land to them - in order for Iroha not to get hurt.
So I guess in a way it’s kinda disappointing that the ultimate villains are still the tiger clan but I guess that’s the whole “Tiger vs Dragon” thing since Momoko’s the “dragon”. Well I assume Koushi’s powers will eventually unseal themselves and he’ll kick some major ass. In the meantime, we’ll just watch as he gets his ass pwned on every other page ^^;.

lol this has to be one of the most underrated love comedies ever. I was so let down at the 22 episode length (yes….wtf most random number ever). It looks like the manga is just as hilarious. Momo is love! xD
yea I mean I assume you can read some Japanese, I definitely recommend to pick it up!
I never paid much attention to this; I assumed it was a girly version of Bo-bo-bo bo bo-bo (which I actually watched and hated myself for doing, but could not look away).
It looks kind of deep, if it’s in English I’ll check it out.
It’s nothing like bobobowhatever this is wayyy better. If you can’t get the manga (I don’t think it’s out in English) at least check out the first few eps of the anime
