Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai - 18
Excellent episode 
this week which finally will tie the last ends to bring us back to the day where fate rests in the hands of our gang vs. the evil Takano. The beginning part had shown that Rena was “left” by her mom. Well technically her mom did ask if Rena wanted to come along but Rena, who at the time appears to have the Hinamizawa syndrome, choose to stay. She also was shown changing her name from Reina to Rena, which I guess explains why people had called her “Reina” in the previous season. It showed her as having the scratching thing way earlier telling me that pretty much throughout season 1, she was just mentally trying to hold it back - except during the USO DA! outbursts.
The Satoshi scene really blew me away too. When he said he wanted a part time job, then he asked to “keep his bat”, followed by the murder of his aunt. My thoughts were “wow did he get paid to kill his aunt lol?” I thought he did it because she was harrassing Satoko? Not surprised he got the Hinamizawa syndrome since Satoko had it. I guess the virus spreads like the Influenza. At least now we know what happened to Satoshi - well at least at this time the assumption is he’s probably sedated in the hospital like Satoko.
At the end where they showed Rika and Hanyuu running through the field with the guy staring - my immediate thoughts were “Who’s the lolipedofin?” 
Turns out it’s Keiichi’s dad! I totally forgot what the deal with him and Keiichi was, I’ll have to go back through my season 1 posts x_X;. It’s weird that I’m finding all this out now and then I think back at how everyone seemed so “normal” on the outside. How Satoko seemed all genki and crap and now I see her here rotting in the hospital. How the hell did she recover like that? Probably those viewing season 2 without prior viewing season 1 have a different perspective on this whole thing.

I had no idea that the faceless guy who was talking to Rika and Hanyuu was Keiichi’s dad!!! o_O
Oh yeah, about the Satoshi sequence, now we know the truth about his “disappearance”, he looked like he was borderline L-5 of the syndrome.

Wasn’t that because of Rika’s help? You know, when she visited Irie so he could get samples of her blood; this is probably how Irie developed the “cure” we see Rika using (or trying to use) in others (the syringe), as well as those shots Satoko was taking in her stomach a few episodes ago.

basically Irie managed to find a suppresive drug for hinamizawa syndrome…with Satoshi live, we can hope for Satoshi X Shion! go Shion!… just make love not war!

I like Satoko “recovers” rather quickly, but it’s just on the surface. That’s why she so easily got the syndrome and relapses. Though seriously, these flashbacks have made me dislike her a bit more then I did before. She was a bit of a trouble maker. All her family disliked her lol.
I’d just say that mostly the USO-DA outburts were just Keiichi’s mind losing it as he went under the syndrome.
Wouldn’t say the sydrome passes like Influenza. Satoshi fell under it because he was under so much stress similar to Satoko. He was spending so much time trying to protect her, dealing with the guilt of wanting not to be that big brother, and finally with killing his aunt. Everyone has the syndrome, but it depends on triggers whether they fall to it.
This second season has been helpful. Looking at things and seeing just what is going on in the lives of these people. Rika who has been tested on to find a treatment. Satoko who had been dealing with a lot of abusive family members, hitting L5 and killing her mother and step-father and the likely hood that Satoshi is dead.
Since we haven’t seen him at all during the other arcs. Likely that Takano had things covered up with her forces and had him used for experiments.
Can’t wait to see the final round vs Takano.
