Yukan Club - 01
I declare
Wednesday to be official drama day because there are no animes worth watching and a shitload of great dramas!!
So I decided to check out Yukan Club mainly on the fact that Akanishi Jin and Taguchi Junnosuke from KAT-TUN are in it, as well as Yokoyama Yu from Kanjani8. The drama wiki description seeemed really stupid but I’m glad I decided to watch the episode because I got really engrossed in it. It has the similar premise to Hana Yori Dango and Yamada Tarou Monogatari, but the way it’s executed seems to have less annoyances then the former. In addition I do believe this is based off a manga with the same title.
The story begins showing Miroku (Akanishi) being woken up by Lenny Kravitz’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way”
The focus is on 6 filthy rich kids who go to a fancy shmancy school. Miroku is rich but doesn’t seem like he has a huge fanbase like the others and he often ditches the others in order to walk his lassie dog. Seishiro (Yokoyama) is one of those traditional Japanese sons and seems that his parents own a hospital so all his servants are doctors and nurses and he gets driven to school in an ambulance.
Grandmarnier (Taguchi) seems like some sort of half gaijin who a narcissistic playboy and has a ton of fangirls ready to have his babies.
As far as our females go we have Yuri who’s into kung fu or something and is pretty much a food loving tomboy. (Yako anybody?) Next we have Karen who’s prolly just as narcissistic as Grandmarnier and is a rich ojousama type character. Finally we have Noriko who’s dad is a cop and mom is a yamato nadeshiko so she’s the traditional girl who is all proper and stuff…so naturally when old men stare at her she gets grossed out and runs off into a corner (or bitchslaps them). So the 6 of them spend most of their school life wasting away in some club room fulla candy, expensive items but I guess none of that is enough to cure their “boredom”.
So this week’s story appears to take place surrounding a dance contest. Miroku runs into a girl, Saki, who he saves from a bunch of men in black suits from harrassment….then he totally falls for her lol. (Seems like their doggies like each other too.) She tells him that she wanted to dance in that competition all her life and this is her last chance because she will be moving out of the country soon. She said the men harrassed her telling her not to dance in the competition or else. A mystery is at hand and Seishiro has the group spy on people at a fancy party. Unfortunately everyone’s too busy flirting or eating, except for Miroku who’s the only one trying to get to the bottom of this.
Eventually with Noriko’s help Miroku gets the data from the bad guy’s computer onto a small usb drive. They look through the data and realize that one of the judges has been taking money bribes from people depending on what school they wanted to bet on. Yuri dresses up as a blonde gaijin woman with a mini camera inside one of her bling bling rings. She borrows 50,000,000 yen from daddy (lol) and gives it to the guy as a bribe who says “well since you’re offering it..” Naturally she gets all of this on camera.
The dance contest begins and naturally the guy has plans to sabotage everyone except for the pair from school that Yuri “bid” on to win. They do things to Saki’s dress by tearing it apart and they poison her drinks (which Grandmarnier and Karen ended up drinking and getting diarrhea the rest of the episode.
). Luckily Yuri helps her “remodel” the dress so that she looks “sexy” and is able to dance anyway. Right before the final round, Saki’s cocker spaniel is taken hostage. Miroku promises that he will get it back before the last round
He does get it back but not before our team of rich kids (minus Grandmarnier and Karen because they’re too busy in the toilet) kicks the ass of like 30 yakuza men!! Yuri and Seishiro have their kung fu and kengo skills and Miroku is just a badass lol. The funniest was probably Noriko with her uber slap
Anyway since they get the dog back in time, Saki is able to dance properly and the other team screwes up and the girl falls revealing her panties. She gets pissed, slaps her partner and runs off…allowing Saki to win the competition.
At the end everyone’s like “Go confess to her” to Miroku but before he is able to, she tells him she really is going to be moving with her father and do dance competitions in that country. YOU JUST GOT SERVED! She thanks everybody and runs off hehe! ^___^ Poor Miroku lol. He’s so bummed he begins to cry (or rather he has trouble holding back his tears as everyone drags him home.) When they come back the vice principal yells at them for getting involved in external affairs and that they will be expelled. However before he can do anything looks like the principal gives them an award certificate for “rescuing a dog” therefore they have no reason to have done “anything wrong”.
And so you have the Yukan club! What I like the most about this drama is while they are rich kids, they aren’t all extremely emo or aloof or violent (no one threw a potted plant down the balcony
) They’re all like ass kicking! Also this now makes it a 2nd “detective” ish show I’m watching this season. (What IS the deal? Is it Sherlock Holmes month in Japan?
) Also I think Junno looks really weird with blonde hair @@;;. But anyway this will be blogged on Wednesdays in addition to Hatarakiman. Also as a note I did take a look at Swan no Baka and Abarenbou Mama and both were just not up my alley.
Upcoming Attractions: The club goes camping! (somewhat)

Looking good ^ ^
I’ll mark it to watch in high status.
Oh! This sounds funny. I think I might watch it.
Yea it was actually pretty amusing to watch despite the fact that the story premise sounds pretty stupid
Hmm, I actually worship the mangaka of the manga it’s based on. Ichijo Yukari is like the queen of josei manga and Yuukan Club is supposed to be one of her most famous and best works. I wonder if the live action is doing justice to it (I can’t say anything, I haven’t seen any of them…)
OHH, looking forward to this so much … the thing that got me was super saiyan Junno but I’ll have to wait for subs
Oh, this seems good. I should watch it. Swan no baka was okay, but I don’t think I’ll finish that series.
*drools* must watch this…
