Fall Firsts 2007: Part 1!

Published by Hinano at 8:15 pm under First Impressions

So rather than do a fall pre-season preview, I figured I’ll do a fall pre-season POST view har har. Instead of skipping ep 1 like I usually do I’m gonna do something similar that I did with the summer shows. The only shows that won’t be in my first impression posts are gonna be Genshiken 2 and Clannad because I’ll be blogging those anyway. My favorite part about the first impression posts is making fun of all the shitty shows that air :D! (Which apparently is also your favorite part of these posts; I aim to please. -From JPmeyer)

Bamboo Blade - I hate the character designs. I feel like I’m watching Tokimeki Memorial: Kendo Love. Also I couldn’t get past 5 minutes and when I skipped around I ran into a scene of some loli who’s really good at kendo but acts like she’s too good to join the kendo club. I hate those little bitches ya know? “Oh I’m so fuckin good but I’m too good to join your little club, but eventually I’ll join anyway because it’ll move the story along and hopefully change my character to be all deredere and friendly!” Also I was hoping this would be like Umisho with Kendo, but it wasn’t. It wasn’t even funny. Next.

Sketch Book - Yea I knew this show was gonna suck before I even started to watch it. I figured I’d watch it hoping it would surprise me…but the only thing that made me go “hey!” is the fact that last night I went to staples trying to decide which sketch book to buy…but in the end I never bought one anyway…because I think I still have $1 scribble pads lying around somewhere. (You know those shitty ones you use in like 2nd grade and draw pictures of farm animals on with crayons.) I gave it 5 minutes, then another scroll. I don’t think that spazztastic teacher is funny, nor is the girl who colored her whole canvas with black chalk. (Man her uniform must be as dirty as the fat man on the subway today.)

D.C. ~Dacapo II - Well I actually really enjoyed season 1 of Dacapo, and I mean the one where Jyuunichi had like the weird light brown hair, not really that 2nd season with that Aishia (?) bitch who ruined everything until the end where Nemu & Jyuunichi got married. As far as I’m watching this, during the confession scene I wanted to lol. I wanted to like photoshop the 2 of them on a freaking “nice boat”. In all seriousness, the general rule of thumb for me is - early confessions don’t last, unless the girl does something extreme  So…I might stick out with this series as long as I can in the hopes that it’ll get all crazy like Da Capo one did and made me glad I sat through the first boring half of the show. Also, why the hell does Sakura still look like she’s 13? Is her magic tree keeping her young these days?

Stay tuned for Part 2!

After looking at the fall season previews, I can already say what I am watching: Shakugan no Shana II (woo, woo), Genshiken 2 (

Lydia> Don’t use the greater or less than signs in your commens lol.

Dragos> Well that’s good, cause if there were only people with my tastes, those studios would be out of business by now

So far, Sketchbook annoys me too much to go any further, Bamboo Blade could either end up decent or suck, and I like Da Capo II so far, but Koko has absolutely no chance of winning.

I am really looking forward for Shana II, Clannad, and has no one have heard any word about Suzumiya Haruhi would be premiering this seaon?

  8. HinanoNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 01 Oct 2007 at 9:01 pm

TLchan> Regarding Koko: Too obvious isn’t it? XD

There’s no Haruhi this season. Kyoani only does 1 show per season.

  9. LydiaNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 01 Oct 2007 at 9:06 pm

Hinano> Well, that explains a lot. Lol.

After looking at the fall season previews, I can already say what I am watching: Shakugan no Shana II (woo, woo), Genshiken 2 (yay), and Clannad (KyoAni. Like, woah.) I may watch ef - a tale of memories (preview showed drama-wama) or Ghost Hound (Jigoku Shoujo character designs. Woo.)

How many Da Capos are there? Jesus Christwagons. I could not even watch the first season. Ha.

This comment better be successful. 4realzz.

I am slightly worried about DC2. Last time we saw someone’s confession get accepted in the first episode, the series ended with murder-suicide.

i’v watch bamboo blade.. does’t seem too bad.. it’s a maa..maa.. for me… as for sketch book… looking at the promo makes me nt wanted to waste my time on it… and as for D.C. 2 not too shabby… sucess confession in the first episode = fast story plot(i hope)… nth much has change in D.C and even the uniform is same as the first 1 XD (ps: I’M A FAN OF THE WEIRD ALIEN CAT) wahaha!!! (”\(-_-:)/”) banzai!!! banzai!!!

On Bamboo Blade, the joining part is like a mini-story, It’ll take only the first episode to get the loli to join.

  13. PhilNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 01 Oct 2007 at 9:42 pm

Bamboo Blade summeries left me uninterested.

DaCrapo II there is no way in hell I am watching. Watching the first series was more than enough.

Sketchbook, I loved reading the manga, but upon finding out there was going to be an anime I was like, “Ah ha ha, that is not going to work,” but I watched it anyway. Not what I hoped for, but exactly what I expected. And they butchered my favorite character. Negishi doesn’t seem angry. He just feels fake-angry.

I’m still going to watch at least a few more episodes out of sheer fanboyism.

Only shows I know I’m going to watch are Shana II, Genshiken 2, and Clannad.

booooo Hinano isn’t a fan of slice of life!! Haha, ah well. At least I got a nice lol as usual. x)

  15. HinanoNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 01 Oct 2007 at 10:34 pm

I think the only slice of life show I really ever sat through was Piano - which was like Slice of Life…of a piano student and teacher lol

  16. DarkronNo Gravatar PORTUGALon 01 Oct 2007 at 10:36 pm

Were you got the impression that Bamboo Blade was like Umisho?

I read the manga and honestly … outside a few comedy bits (yes, there are some) its somewhat focused in Kendo sport itself, its not something I would recommend. unless you are interested in the sport itself.

  17. shinigamiNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 01 Oct 2007 at 11:05 pm

I’ll give all three of these animes a chance. at least 3 episodes.

  18. suguruNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 01 Oct 2007 at 11:05 pm

I love Da Capo, but I think if I was Junichi after D.C.S.S. I would have taken a chainsaw to that sakura tree, ground it up into wood chips, and burned it in my fireplace, just to make sure it was finished the hell off.

I liked the first episode of D.C. II although it surprised the hell out of me–as fun as it is to say “Koko kokuhaku” I can’t believe they fit what normally gets dragged out to 13 episodes into episode one. I’d be shocked if Koko doesn’t hit trouble down the road, but now I’m curious just to see where they go with this. Fans of the game will probably be up in arms, but I’m impressed they had the guts to take it a completely different direction.

  19. HinanoNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 01 Oct 2007 at 11:25 pm

Dark> I got the impression from anime + a sport = a sport anime LIKE umisho. I didn’t do any “research” or “previews” of shows as I mentioned in my first paragraph. It’s more fun when you watch a show on a clean slate that way you don’t have “pre-instated” opinions as you watch it.

suguru> Even though I know it won’t happen, all I can think of is Koko chasing after Yume with a saw or something

  20. kiseki gurlNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 01 Oct 2007 at 11:31 pm

Well thanks. I wasn’t really interested in any of these shows and you just convinced me to go study AP Art History instead =D.

  21. DarkronNo Gravatar PORTUGALon 01 Oct 2007 at 11:49 pm

Well I read it so I know … it does strike me as odd the attention Bamboo Blade is getting but then again I read it so … perhaps the clean state is good but I rather avoid things as “School Days” so when I see something I know its based on a eroge or ongoing manga I hold many reservations towards it.

BTW are you going to watch “Blue Drop?”

  22. DannyNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 02 Oct 2007 at 12:56 am

DCII made me physically sick. I was so disgusted after Jun1 accepted Nemu back that I was throwing stuff all over my apartment and got into a livid shouting session with my monitor.

I was just so pissed off. I hated Nemu with a passion. They started DCII with such a great two episodes with Shirakawa and Jun1 teasers. I loved Shirakawa with a passion. I remember getting all up in arms on the forums and making Nemu pictures with a big red X stamp on her face.
I am kinda jaded and dun wanna watch this new one thinking that I will be hurt again :(

No Nemu in this one, so maybe I will give it a clean slate. Can’t trust those writers though.

  25. mangaNo Gravatar SWEDENon 02 Oct 2007 at 7:25 am

Yeah, DC2 is finally here :)

Must watch it. I also hated Aishia for the way she behaved, happiness isn´t something one individuall should decide, it´s something everyone has their own individual criterias for.
And from the looks of it, Kotori and the other were happy with Nemu and Junichi.

  26. HinanoNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 02 Oct 2007 at 9:42 am

Darkron> I think I’ll just download ep 1 of everything I see on TokyoToshokan - this makes the whole clean slate idea interesting. I honestly can’t remember what the hell the shows are about aside from the ones I plan to watch back when they were first announced.

Danny> LOL I actually like Nemu but I think that’s because she’s the only one whose story I made it through in the game. Once I got to Sakura I couldn’t stand it and I quit and deleted it lol (her voice in the game is horrendously painful to listen to.) If this is anything like DC1, the likely candidate is gonna be Yume lol. So you might as well quit while you’re still ahead. (The giri-imouto always beats the osananajimi it seems in Circus stories )

  27. Di Gi KazuneNo Gravatar MALAYSIAon 02 Oct 2007 at 10:05 am

/me stamps “no watch” on all of them!

This is going to be even better than the summer season… Even less to watch. And to think I thought the summer watchlist was actually minimal…

  28. HinanoNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 02 Oct 2007 at 10:09 am

    Yea at this rate I think I may be down to like 7-8 shows if even that ^^;
o well more time to draw harenchi fanart ;)

Hinano> Even though I know it won’t happen, all I can think of is Koko chasing after Yume with a saw or something

Yeah, if Yoshiyuki ends up pulling a Makoto and sleeping with half the cast, I’ll throw my laptop out the window–no School Days allowed in my Da Capo! Fortunately he doesn’t seem to have the same amorality…

  30. Di Gi KazuneNo Gravatar MALAYSIAon 02 Oct 2007 at 11:39 am

    7-8????!?!?!!

    you have too much time.

    Summer was….

    1… 2… 3……. and at the end… touka gettan made it 4.

  31. HinanoNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 02 Oct 2007 at 11:53 am

LOL as if watching a 24 minute episode per day is really a lot of time =P

  32. Sabrina-FairNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 02 Oct 2007 at 9:32 pm

Dacapo was good, I never really dug the catmaid. Other than that, it was a good anime.

So far this season I’m not looking forward to any shows coming out. :(

That’s a first since I was in Jr High. But I’ve got a lot of manga to read so I can occupy my time with that. :)

  33. HinanoNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 02 Oct 2007 at 10:03 pm

I wasn’t really looking forward to much either which is why I didn’t bother doing research ahead of time to see what I’d like to watch (or do a fall preview etc.) Maybe something will surprise me!

  34. WarpshadowNo Gravatar UNITED STATESon 02 Oct 2007 at 11:01 pm

About Bamboo blade I think anime rule #267 states that getting people to join a club activity that they would match their skills is slightly more difficult than pulling teeth. Doubly so if said student excells at said activity.

I think the only slice of life show I really ever sat through was Piano - which was like Slice of Life…of a piano student and teacher lol

The only reason I sat through was the piano instrumental pieces were actually nice to listen to.

I saw through it because it reminded me of my childhood.
