HOLY CRAP IT REALLY WAS A NICE BOAT O_O! (Now with MOAR Photoshop)
Ok now that I’m back from work (and an office party) I finally sat down to watch this episode. My creative juices went flowing and so came out this:
To be honest, this seemed cooler when I was reading people’s blogs and looking at screencaps. When watching I felt like I’ve been let down because I expected it to be Higurashi level gruesome but they seemed to edit out a lot of sound effects that you could barely even tell wtf was going on. Also the black blood didn’t help, I mean did Sekai attack Makoto with a feather pen or something? XD

My summary from earlier ended up being pretty accurate:
While Makoto and Kotonoha are at Makoto’s house, Sekai comes there too. Sekai gets enraged. Kotonoha counters back with “You betrayed me first” to Sekai. Makoto then walks over to Kotonoha and starts making out with her in front of Sekai. Sekai runs out of the apartment.
↓
Makoto sends Sekai an email saying Kotonoha knows a good hospital and Sekai can have an abortion there.
↓
Sekai sends Makoto an email saying she wants to meet him later at school.
↓
Restless, Makoto agrees to meet Sekai at his house. While Makoto is away from her for a few minutes he gets an email from her that says “Sayonara.”
↓
Sekai stabs Makoto at his house with a kitchen knife.
↓
Kotonoha finds Makoto’s dead body at his house.
↓
Kotonoha calls up Sekai using Makoto’s phone, to the school rooftop.
↓
She then shows Sekai Makoto’s decapitated head. Sekai barfs.
↓
Sekai and Kotonoha fight and Kotonoha kills Sekai.
↓
Kotonoha cuts Sekai’s stomach open, and says “There’s nobody inside there.” 
↓
Kotonoha floats away in a nice boat into the open sea with Makoto’s severed head.

Ah well I’m just glad this insane show is over…and I’m glad Makoto died. I hope someone posts a DVD rip, so I can enjoy his death in all its glory.

If you look at my comments for ep. 11, I was pretty on target with my predictions:
1. Sekai stabs makoto - Check.
2. Kotonoha saw slices sekai - CHECK
3. Kotonoha jumps off a roof - UNCHECK - well instead of having a nice roof, she jumped on a nice boat. Close but no cigar. XD

Taking two of the three bad endings, boy, I was really nervous when ominous music was rising and the awkward silence between Makoto and Sekai and the short but long-spaced text message was better, which that one made me more nervous.
I knew Makoto was getting hacked, as well as Sekai’s. But seeing Kotonoha with Makoto’s severed head was really creepy.
By the way, Nice Boat!
What do we call this new bad ending? since the self-titled episode sounds stupid.

Seriously, that ending just sounds more disurbing than anything…but I still really want to see it if it’s true!
Oh an one more thing: Do these girls really go psycho after only having their boyfriend screw them emotionally (and physcially)? I mean I know high school girls aren’t emotionally stable but I think going as far as they did in the final episode that Sekai and Kotonoha had some serious issues way before Makoto came into the picture. Maybe the OVAs will explain a bit.
To be honest, the most disturbing thing to me is Konoha & the head thing. I mean reall….wry?

Hmm, OVA? Maybe she sails to France and checks to see if Makoto has sired other spawn. This ending was definitely worth the wait.
O_O This ending left me with Trauma…
They even spoiled us this episode with a nice boat (without us knowing it)…
Also Characters from Summer Days are making appearance in this episode’s ending!
Let’s start listing them (all in the epilogue):
1. Nijou Kazuha & Futaba - on bench, after the Otome-group is passing by.
2. Katou Karen, Otome’s little sister watching her big-sis playing basketball with Nanami!
3. Not exactly sure about that one, though: While Hikari walking, the girl she’s talking to is probably Yamagata Ai!
Anyway, could have figured that out only once I watched the epilogue again… O_O
Seems like no-one is missing Makoto!

Yeah, Hinano, I’m also disturbed by the fact that Kotonoha not only decapitates Makoto’s corpse, but also slices open Sekai’s (implied?)…

I felt sick after seeing this… I think it would be perfect without the boat seen… that was really disturbing.
WOW it really does blow out all the other bad endings nicely. And Makoto asking for an abortion just made him go to new depths even LOWER than he already was at.

i really did not like makoto and what he did and i wanted him to die but imo that ending was just too much now i understand why they did not show this a few weeks back
LOL awesome photoshop. That last boat one is totally giving me Jigoku Shoujo vibes. Actually, now that I think about it, this show has those vibes all over the place. Revenge huh? Spinoff~ go!
From what I’ve heard, the ’special airing’ of the episode (which you needed an unopened copy of School Days or Summer Days to get into) really was more bloody, at least according to the summary at Random Curiousity.
It was horribly violent, and made me feel better about the series, even if it wasn’t Higurashi-level in its ‘unleashed wrath’. The fact she kept the head, and cut up Sekai, on the other hand… well, I expected it, but still… that was disturbing. Especially since she’s STILL clinging to Makoto.
Well the ending was similar to the game endings, but I do agree that the “let me check what’s inside of you” and floating away on the boat with the head was a bit over the top. To be honest I think nice boat was a last minute animation, I mean not like it took a lot of animation to animate that. I bet in the DVD she jumps off the roof for a complete triple bad end.
Also - I didn’t think that the flashbacks were supposed to be there. I totally sat there going like “man I bet in the DVD version we see blood and hear sounds higurashi style” XD;; I guess this is why I’m disappointed. Oh well I’ll patiently await for the DVD rip, although I dunno if by that time I’ll still care.

- so yes, you’ll hear the sounds in the DVD release… but whether or not they do the clean sweep? No clue - I think I prefer this one, though.

I guess we have to wait the DVD release (whenever it is the release date in Japan), post it on the Internet, and see the REAL version of the final episode, despite of the contents that are claimed to be more distrubing than the edited version.
I think Kotonoha got the worst by not dying and remaining in her mental prison.

You know… Objectively speaking, the events in Higurashii are indeed much more gruesome than the events in this episode. However, I felt much much more shocked seeing the way this episode went down instead. In fact, I can fairly say no other anime had ever shocked me anywhere close to this before. And this is inspite of me expecting a gruesome ending!
Perhaps the only let down for me is not seeing Kotonoha jumping off a roof. But this nice boat ending is just as heart-stopping if not heart-wrenching. Seeing Kotonoha loses it all like that.

One thing on my mind is that how did the main seiyuus of this anime really felt when they read the script of the final episode concluding with a bad ending that would be unimaginable?
Did they felt the same way as we have been talking all this time of how most or some of us felt it was very disturbing?
I would really like to know from their own perspective.

bakaneko> I tried to hear those words over and over, but I couldn’t tell them very well because of the background music was so loud. I believe that Makoto called her name “Se…ka…” (without mentioning the “i” part of her name) to stop stabbing him.
It sounded like Se…ka… to me also, but what a crazy scene!
Yea, I think “se…ka…” makes sense. Especially seeing how Sekai herself reacted to him calling her. I guess the folks at [m.3.3.w] really hated Makoto tremendously. lol.

boy i wanted katsura to win. allas this show is ending. but never was better than the original game. had alot of possibilities and i like that.

You still can’t do a crappy job just because you don’t like the ass. Unlike you have a plaque saying your group is totally lame and crappy and loves to do lousy translations. It’s just not a good job especially when halfway you bailout just because you don’t like the show. It just shows lack of commitment and bad planning.

I doubt the writers changed the ending to include the nice boat scene. In a few episodes before, Kotonoha had mentioned about going to the family yacht with Makoto. It makes sense for Kotonoha to enter her “paradise/hell” with Makoto(’s head) to conclude the series.
Beside, it would be too predictable to include the 3rd bad ending from the game after seeing the other two bad endings here already.
Also, in the game, the point of Kotonoha’s suicide was really to punish Makoto from ever being able to find a relationship in his future. In the anime, Makoto already got his punishment in the hands of Sekai.
Also, in the game, Kotonoha jumped to her death because she believed she had lost Makoto forever to Sekai. However, in the anime, she confirmed (probably wrongly) that Sekai was not with his child and that Makoto had accepted her and her only as his girlfriend. So, there is no reason for Kotonoha to commit suicide anymore.
In the end, it makes sense (is making sense even possible with this show???) that Kotonoha should go onto the nice boat with Makoto. Well, at least a part of him does.
Good point there bakaneko - she no longer needs to kill herself because she has Makoto (or what’s left of him.) I guess if she WAS in her right mind (maybe?) she woulda realized she has nothing left and jumped to her doom to “be with him in another world” or some crap.
Who said it was Makoto doing the lovemaking…. maybe his ass would be used with…. a brinjal and cucumber!

Except the Hinamizawa psychosis has a supernatural cause. What makes School Days more shocking is that it’s not fantasy. These are fairly ordinary people. And more than that, they’re people that we can empathize with. Murder is supposed to be a despicable act, but it’s difficult to entirely condemn Kotonoha or Sekai for what they did.
Yeah, I was wondering if the nice boat was edited in for the lulz. But they had already established that Katsura was planning to spend Christmas on the yacht.

I’ve heard that School Days will have an OVA titled “School Days - Magical Heart Kokoro-chan”. This one will be focused only on Kotonoha’s sister Kokoro, I believe.

[...] I saw KimiNozo when it first aired which was like 4 years ago so when watching this I had no recollection of anything or anyone - all I remembered was “Mitsuk is a WHORE!” So really based on “Mitsuki is a whore he shoulda ended up with Haruka” is how I watched this show. Unfortunately that was a complete downfall for me, and the show, because it became an overly melodramatic piece of crap anime where I started to see Haruka as Kotonoha, being all shy and crap, except the difference is Takayuki is Beta Makoto so he doesn’t quite have the asshole guy routine down. He actually reminded me of Makoto in the Good End for Kotonoha - rather than the Makoto we saw who got what he deserved! [...]
