Manga Review: Karin Vol. 11-12

Please do not confuse this with Kamichama Karin. This is the manga which had an anime series after it by JC Staff and I think is licensed in English under the title “Chibi Vampire”. (Which is stupid as hell since Karin isn’t chibi nor a vampire wtf.) I figured I’d squash my review for both volumes into 1 post since they really focused on only 1 thing in both volumes. I’d also like to point out that I love this manga, and if you’re a fan of mushy lovey dovey stuff you should really get this. It’s not as fanservicy as the anime and focuses a lot more on relationships between Karin and her family and Usui Kenta rather than only on her nose bleeding all the time. (JC Staff has a great way of runing stories.) Anyway volume 11 focuses on Anju growing up and becoming a vampire, while volume 12 focuses on the relationship between Karin & Kenta.

So in volume 11 Anju is starting to show signs of becoming a vampire - she has a lot of trouble going out in the day light and eventually begins craving for blood. She also loses the ability to taste food flavors (by failing to realize Karin spilled a whole bottle of tabasco sauce into her soup) since all vampires feed on is blood anyway. Eventually Anju gives in and bites her class mate, who was miserable anyway so she really puts him out of his misery. (He had a crush on her which was kinda cute too.) At the end of the volume Anju gets upset at Karin for “congratulating” her because this now means Karin is the only one in the family who lives in the daylight. The volume ends showing Karin is becoming lonely.

Luckily for Karin, she has a very sweet and caring boyfriend who is there for her. Unfortunately since graduation is coming up, the only thing Karin has in her head is “A human and a vampire cannot be united” and that after they graduate they will break up anyway. She pushes him away, but all that does is cause him to feel “unfortunate” which sets off her zouketsuki blood.

One day in the park she needs someone to bite and finds a random guy on a bench. Unfortunately since Anju’s not there to help the guy pushes her away and calls her a monster. Just then Kenta comes up and yells at him to appologize to Karin. Anju finally shows up and uses her bats to erase the guy’s memory. Anju and Karin finally make up (which lets Ren be free from his little sister’s babysitting duties.) Kenta also tells Karin that he doesn’t want to be without her, and he doesn’t care that he can’t have kids or any of that stuff. Without Karin, he says he’s unhappy.

So speaking of unhappiness Fumio (Kenta’s mom) tells him she has to go see her mom who’s sick. She has to end up staying there for a while because her mom’s condition isn’t improving. She then asks Karin to take care of Kenta while she’s gone. Being upset, this sets off Karin’s zouketsuki and Kenta appologizes and tells Karin to leave so she doesn’t bleed again. Karin says that it’s not fair that Kenta’s there for her, but she’s not there for him. Her zouketsuki won’t stop so he tells her to bite him to relieve it, but instead she kisses him. *3*~~

They let go and she apologizes but clearly this is going somewhere and both of them agree where rawrr so they kiss again..but of course Karin still has to bite him ^^;;…her fangs start getting longer lol.

So of course he lets her bite him at the end. (She gives him a small “chu” first how cute *3*~) Also in this volume Karin’s mom discovered that her family was fooled by her father…and it appears there’s some kind of curse on them which is how Karin became a zouketsuki. She also finds out that Karin’s blood is like her “river of life”. Eventually this river will dry up, and when it does, Karin will die.

So yea it’s getting pretty dramatic at this point. In the preview it looks like someone’s about to rape her seriously x_X;; I hope nothing bad happens.

   Actually, it is licensed in English by TokyoPOP, which I have the first two volumes of the manga.

   What do you mean rape. If that happens im dropping this. Seriously come on rape what the F**k is that. I thought this manga was above that sorta thing. I hope that’s wrong.

   Whoa, none of this happened in the anime. I liked the anime, but this much more intriguing. More kissing, less pneumatic boob floppage! Score.

   (total pathetic sucker for the mushy stuff)

   Really need to get on with learning the language… They’re only up to the 5th (maybe 6th) volume in English. I don’t want to wait that long for the snogging. ^^

   And she IS a vampire - just a very bad one. Reverse vampire, if anything. I’m still a tad surprised that Anju’s unhappy with her vampireness, whereas Ren seems to almost revel in it; much like his mother, come to think of it.

   Too bad I near faint when seeing blood so I kinda avoid this type of manga/anime.

   Darkron: The blood’s here about as blood-like as harem manga resembles real-life losers’ love-lives.

   Well maybe she just get assaulted, but someone (Kenta or her dad?) saves her in time.

   I think the snogging started in volume 7 or 8.

   Reverse vampire more like it

   I really loved the anime, one of my favorites! Didn’t know about the manga, and I must agree with apexantapex; this looks so intriguing.

    Whow! Omigosh~ so that means Karin’ll die eventually eh? But, isn’t that a “good” thing, in a way? I mean, that makes her life span somewhat–human. Her family will have to deal with her loss, but at least she wont be lonely watching Kenta grow old, wither and die. It’d be relief and consolation–her life may be shortened but at least she wont be alone.

    Hmm, um, is this manga still ongoing, if I may ask? This is such a good one…I’ve recently become a fan (I just stumbled on it a couple of days ago). And this development is just too yummy and intriguing to pass up. Do you know any sites which post [free] manga–specifically volumes 7 upwards? Information would be much loved and appreciated.

    I just love this series, I’m collecting the dvd’s and the manga, to bad they are just toooooo SLOW in english, only 6 vol have come out so far >.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! is it really true that karin are going to die when this ”river of life” drys up!!!! NO she can’t die T.T I hate when a character in a manga or anime dies, especially when I like them, it takes me forever to get over it T.T

    And what!? RAPE?! o.O by who!!!Nooooo, to much drama for my nerves!

    omg they kissed FINALLY! LOL i watched the series and the waz only 24 episodes long and it left a bunch of questions unawnsered…it sucked
