Ouran Manga has failed me.

Published by Hinano at 9:13 pm under Manga, Ouran Koukou Host Club

So it’s been ages since Ouran anime ended and I’ve been somewhat keeping up with the manga. I recently purchased volume 10 and 11 and to be honest, I’m only reading it for the sole purpose of Haruhi x Tamaki. Unfortunately, the mangaka does not seem to feel the same way as she has been throwing in random characters and stories and so much fucking text, that I’ve gotten to the point where I’d glance and flip to the next page because I just don’t wanna read it.

The only highlights were that in volume 10 the daughter of that drag queen granny at that Inn who is a total ganguro gets a crush on Tamaki and begs for Haruhi to help her. She later realizes that Tamaki only has his eyes set on Haruhi but when she asks him if he likes her, he says “I like her….LIKE A FATHER” *headdesk. When will this fathercon end? God. The only scenes I liked there was when Tamaki secretly called Haruhi at night to give her stuff and asked her to keep it a secret.

Other than that Volume 11 passed me like a blur. I have no freaking idea why they had that sports competition, but whatever reason it was supposed to create conflict between Tamaki and Kyouya. The volume further gets dramatic when Tamaki decides to go back to France to see his mom, and both Hikaru & Kaoru are officially in love with Haruhi and neither of them wants to share. Wuh oh. Looks like the continuation of the twin thing will commence in Volume 12…but I don’t know if I can spend money on this anymore because I can’t even stand read the whole thing.

While the anime had its ending fillers and some cutting of good scenes, the majority of the time stuff that bored me in the manga actually got me to laugh in the anime. Now I’m back to only manga, where it just doesn’t come out funny to me. I dunno, maybe this isn’t my cup of tea.

Maybe I should sell all of my Ouran manga. Ha, ha. Filler in anime is bad; filler in manga is worse. May I suggest picking up Vampire Knight (Vanpaia Naito) as your shoujo replacement? Though, I have not read past volume two. Eh.

  2. Sabrina-Fair UNITED STATESon 20 Sep 2007 at 10:13 pm

OOOOH I love me some Vampire Knight! Don’t even get me started. FTW!

Just kidding, but I do love that series. Everyone where I work is playing online games constantly. If I get another FTW thrown at me by way of email, random conversation, and what not, I’m going postal: SERIOUSLY.

Moving on, I never really dug the whole Ouran thing. Lots of people obsess over it, but I made it into 2 Manga volumes and 5 anime episodes.

With lackluster anime viewing on my part, I’m making up for it with manga. Trying to spread my interest around I’m reading Cheeky Angel, Alice 19th, After school Nightmare, Kare Kono, and something unfortuneatly titles Cherry Juice. I’m thinking of returning to xxxcholic in English, but it’s a distant thought

I just watched 3 episodes of an anime called Shigurui (sp?) OMG that was intense, nasty, and addicted all at once. Can’t find the English manga to save my life (it may not exist of course) and scanlations are scarce and few so I’m praying the subbing of the anime picks up soon.

    AC> I Have no idea wtf is going on…after I tried to adjust the fonts some of the padding got fucked up :S So I don’t wanna mess it up any further so I left it ^^;;

Meh, Ouran. It’s disappointing to me. It’s not really that great of a manga to begin with though. I think the anime was actually probably better in the end. I don’t actually know much but what I see in passing and I think Haruhi x Tamaki is very unlikely.

  6. Darkron PORTUGALon 21 Sep 2007 at 12:29 am

I do not think Ouran can beat Ah! My Goddess in terms of fillers.

Its usually because of the popularity of the manga, Kare Kano for example around the middle gone to the sub-characters relationships but I did not feel bad because they were present in the story before … Fruits Basket goes *a lot* into sub-characters (then again, the story is the Somas) but it does not feel wrong.

Then you have School Rumble that is really ANOYING because nothing is solved, ever and A!MG were for every development of Bell and K1 we have about 30 chapters around something else (usually some mechanical BORING stuff like some bike build in 1967 they found and blah, blah), yet they are not canceled because they sell, as long people buy it why is the Mangaka going to end it? InuYasha is still going after all …

I also prefer the anime over the manga. I stopped reading the manga because:

    1. The anime seemed more interesting at the time
    2. It was kinda hard for me to get the manga

I stopped around volume 4 (of was it 5..) Maybe I should pick it up again just to see what happens next :P

the whole love thing is ouran is starting to take over the actual series ): i liked it in the first few volumes, then its just starts to get a bit iono, cliched. slowly losing originality, though i sill love it xD
but i like the smaller series that is in the ouran mangas - love egoist
i got quite interested in it, but she only releases like one story eveyr two volumes =(
VAMPIRE KNIGHT IS LOVE. oh yes
    ahah

  9. Hinano UNITED STATESon 21 Sep 2007 at 7:14 am

heh I actually didn’t even like love egoist to be honest.
I’ll prolly just try to download the rest of ouran - don’t wanna spend anymore money on it

so is there any development btw haruhi and tamaki yet, i hope they get together

  11. eiram UNITED KINGDOMon 21 Sep 2007 at 12:02 pm

Remember the fanfic you gave when you blogged about episode 25(?), I want that kind of ending and I really liked it. Maybe because it was about Haruhi and Tama-chan, and it wa really sweet. The manga is okey for me, but I beg to see Tama and Haruhi finally together soon.

  12. Karura UNITED STATESon 21 Sep 2007 at 12:21 pm

I went ahead and got eight volumes of this last Christmas in a fit of “yay, Ouran!” and then for months I really didn’t want to read it. When I finally got around to it, I quite enjoyed the manga but it’s the kind of thing that entertains me when I’m reading it and then afterwards I pretty much forget about it. And if it goes on forever, it’ll end up dropped like School Rumble was.

  13. Hinano UNITED STATESon 21 Sep 2007 at 6:21 pm

eiram> Sometimes fanfics are superior to the actual story, sad but true

Karura> I dont even know wtf happened with school rumble. I tried to read the manga but I stopped at vol 14 - thankfully I read most of it raw scans off #lurk. I did so with Ouran but I actually bought vol 9-11…yea thats about all I’m gonna buy

    yms> Unfortunately no =_+;

  14. Darkron PORTUGALon 21 Sep 2007 at 7:06 pm

He does not want to wrap up the relationships, that is the problem with School Rumble … the whole thing never progresses at all and that is why it can get tired, the few moments were it seems its going to get some progress are always end up with a reset.

  15. danie MALAYSIAon 22 Sep 2007 at 1:10 pm

still no Tamaki x Haruhi? Though I also accept Kyouya x Haruhi but TX H is waaay better. I thought there is one part that Haruhi would blush around Tamaki? No?
I hope she doesn’t end it with open pairing coz that suck (the more reason why i like reading Fruit Basket) Oh, and VK is heavenly…

  16. Kent SWEDENon 26 Sep 2007 at 1:08 pm

The latest chapter of Ouran (chapter 55) was so much TamakixHaruhi that I can’t help reread it all the time

So trust me, the author has not at all forgotten them, and I hope you will enjoy it too!

Yes, I thought the latest volumes was messy too for a bit, then I reread with better translations and when I read outloud for a friend I really burst into laugh all the time.

  17. Ryunatta BAHAMASon 07 Oct 2007 at 2:13 am

I agree .i also read for the same resons and is proving very pointless if the author doesnt want haruhi x tama-chan then i quit reading altogether. and yes THE FATHERCON MUST FREAKIN END!

  18. katze ITALYon 07 Oct 2007 at 9:04 am

Well, concerning Ouran manga I think it’s more a matter of personal preference than actual bad writing…Bisco Hatori has chosen an excruciatingly slow building up for Tamaki x Haruhi. And, in order to do this she’s focusing more on realistic character developments and little details than unpredictable plot twists.
I happen to like this very much, but I also understand that it must be unnerving for someone whose expectations are different than mine.
Concerning the anime…I don’t know, I mean, it was very well done and all, but I still prefer the manga. In the manga there’s way more character depth and the funny parts…well, are even more sarcastic and evil than the anime..again, this is subjective.
Oh, and (SPOILER!) in the last chapter Tamaki/Haruhi has become nearly canon ^^(END SPOILER)

  19. Hinano UNITED STATESon 07 Oct 2007 at 9:27 am

gah everyone keeps saying that =_= IS that gonna show up in the next tankoubon? I realllly don’t wanna spend anymore money on it T_T

  20. Katze ITALYon 07 Oct 2007 at 9:52 am

    VERY SPOILERISH
Maybe you should just wait the end of the series and buy only the very last volume…though Haruhi is slowly but surely falling for him, Tamaki is still hopelessly wandering through I-am-the-Daddy-land. Unless Hikaru or Kyoya decide to take action I predict at least another 2-3 volumes of delusions&sufferings…btw chapter 55 is still uber cute ^^

  21. Cerina UNITED STATESon 11 Nov 2007 at 8:22 pm

Ch. 56 is out, and um…it seems that TamaxHaru is advancing.

    Yes.

  22. Jessica CANADAon 04 Jan 2008 at 9:35 pm

chapter 55 and 56 definitely focus on haruhi tamaki but to be more specific it mainly talks about Haruhis’ feelings toward tamaki…

  23. SakuraWings UNITED STATESon 11 Jan 2008 at 12:19 am

    Ohhhh Chapter 56…teehee.

I don’t know about you guys, but it’s really really satisfying to see Haruhi acting the way she is right now…considering the fact that she’s used to be so stoic about these things, now she’s freaking out all the time and then Tamaki freaks out because Haruhi is freaking out which of course makes her freak out even more. :D

I usually am not interested in Ouran except for the TamaHaru action, but 55 and 56 are absolutely delicious. XD

  24. Oslapedo UNITED STATESon 10 Feb 2008 at 3:29 pm

I love the Ouran manga  I actually really like how it’s taken so long for Haruhi, and Tamaki to become aware of each other (romantically, and such and such  ); it makes it all feel more real to me. Looking back on Haruhi’s extreme indifference to Tamaki in the beginning (bordering on disdain/hate) it’s natural that her luv has taken a while to develop.

Besides, in Ouran-time, not even a year has passed right? 18 springs may have sprung, but Bisco is pretty ambiguous about the time x3

  25. Keira UNITED STATESon 12 Feb 2008 at 11:42 am

It got a lot better
Because Haruhi realizes she has feelings for him!
