Manga Review: Good Morning…Kiss?
Those of you have even heard of the manga called “Good Morning Call” will be happy (?) to know that apparently a sequel’s been released called Good Morning Kiss. I happened to lay my eyes on it browsing the Shoujo manga section at Kinokuniya. I knew something looked familiar and when I read the bottom flap thing it said “Now Uehara and Yoshikawa are in college!!!” Whoa ok this is starting to feel like Saved by the Bell: The College Years. So anyway they’re still living together or in rooms next to each other…or something. (THis part confused me.) Then one day her dad stops by and flips out and demands that she no longer live with him. Nao’s friends suggest that she and Uehara get married so that living together would be “normal”. Oh Japan.
So Nao then tries to give Uehara some ideas about getting married by leaving a wedding magazine next to his computer. He naturally sees it, tosses it aside and proceeds to play video games. Sigh. This is exactly what makes this manga so freaking…retarded.
I had trouble fully “enjoying” series one because it was this endless cycle of “Nao gets upset because Uehara’s an incensitive bastard, Nao goes shopping, they kiss and make up, rinse lather repeat.” It appears that even in this sequel…things are going to be similar.

So later on Uehara goes to see Nao back at her hometown and asks if she wants to get married (because he finally caught on.) She says yes but then begins having doubts when Miss Tubby and her bishie hair cutting boyfriend(now husband) seem to have “married couple fights”. Her friends also tell her that “college” is the time to be free and have fun, not be stuck in a marriage. Nao & Uehara have a fight and this only confirms her doubts and so then they call off the “get married thing. New Years comes up and Nao goes home to her parents because she wants the “new years money” to buy a new dress (as this is a big theme in this manga.) At home she finds out that Uehara’s job was canceled cause of store problems and his sister went to Hawaii…leaving him all alone. Her mom suggests that she invite him to their house…to the dismay of her father. (But he later accepts Uehara..somewhat anyway.)
Will I buy volume 2? Maybe if I happen to see it on the bookshelf. I’m just morbidly curious because I kinda like the characters..but only when they’re not in “I wanna play videogames” or “I wanna go shopping cause there’s this HUGE SALE!” mode. It’s ok when that’s part of the manga, but it’s annoying seeing this shit in every other chapter. Kinda makes me feel like the whole point of the “sequel” is lost when you’re just recycling the same material X years later.

LOL thanks for the review! I have been so curious to see what happened to them now that they’re in college! I wonder if they are “doing it” though… mmmm…
Based on my reading….it seemed like Nao was as virginous as ever
sounds like a cute manga to me XD
I mean it has its cute points but its like 11 volumes of shopping, ignorant boyfriends and crappy love triangles.
