So little has happened over 17 episodes because nearly all of them were merely character introductions. There's only two more people that I know of who haven't appeared yet, and one of them is insignificant.

There's not much plot development because there isn't much to work with. Hayate is working to pay off his debt. And now also to protect Nagi. Hayate learning how to be a professional butler is also significant. But that's basically all there is.

Unfortunately the pace isn't going to improve much. The last four weeks (13/14, 15/16) were really only two episodes. I expect more of this as they try to avoid overrunning the manga too quickly.

I'm loving it, though. I think the comedy is perfect (I've learned to appreciate boke-tsukomi thanks to HnG.) The writers understand the lost art of irony. The actors are excellent. And Hayate is a [fe]male lead I can actually cheer for.

Personally, I loved Hinagiku's knowing glance as she commented on the food to Hayate. Well, shortly before her sister went and died after having the Nagi-prepared meals - she seems to have read too many cooking manga stories where the chef threw everything together... alas.

I thought this episode was funny. Weirdo Klaus, the manly magical girl, and the parody of the cabbage from crescent love were great. I don't think anything in HnG should be taken seriously.

Just want to know how the title is a parody of Hand Maid May? I don't see the connection.

I didn't hate this episode, but it is diddling about with it's plot, or lack thereof.

The part where the teacher eats the food that Nagi actually prepared and her stomach explodes and she dissolves was the only thing that made me laugh in the episode.

Naruto doesn't appeal to everyone, Falen: I personally can't stand it. :D

Hinano: Like I said, they butchered the manga storyline to try and get everything in, then went on and sorta-kinda followed the story while hoping the gags would carry things. So far.. well, it's not working. The manga's charm comes more from the interactions as well as the parodies of the situations and anime and manga that they draw on, rather than on the more blatant gags here.

As noted, part of Lucky Star's success is that they focus on the CHARACTERS providing most of the laughs; the parodies exist, but the characters are the ones who pull it off, and who are the focus of the story, not the situation or the specific manga/game reference.

Shows like these are catering to hardcore otakus unfortunately. That means obscure references meant to reward people who studiously watches everything. If you are looking for a more generic experience that appeals for everyone, you guys should try Naruto or or something.

It feels dragging mostly because I realized like "whoa we're at ep 17...wtf is going on here?

The manga has more of a storyline - the problem HERE is that they hacked apart the manga's story (which itself is slow and somewhat plodding at points - it took four volumes to move ahead maybe two weeks) in order to get all of the characters introduced, then they threw in a filler ep and started on the plot (Hayate goes to school, meets other people, including possible rivals for his attention). And in the process, they went on to do more parodies than were in the manga... which are either less blatant, or at least didn't take up five whole pages.

I'm still watching it because I do find it funny, although I will admit that things are dragging. Lucky Star is funnier, if only because they depend less on the random gag and parody and more on the interactions between the characters.

I dunno I downloaded ep 15 recently to use for the amv (never did use it though) but it's still..unfunny to me...I guess because I just don't like the characters lol...and if you say it's character driven that pretty much kills the show for me. It's just something I can't get into.
