Weaboo Shopping: The Discount Way

Published by Hinano at 5:42 pm under Unsorted

So while the majority of my trip actually was to the central park zoo, I discovered the great wall of china, which is actually a Chinese grocery store with goodies and prices that put convention dealers room to shame.

Chocolate coronets must only be a fad in Japan and Singapore because in New York City there was a crapload of them that nobody was buying. Oh and…they don’t really taste that good, nor do they splurge out the other side if you eat them from only one side. Lucky Star overrates them (as usual). On the other hand, I quite enjoy Taiyaki.

So while anime conventions charge a shitload of money for the following things I got them for half the price at a Chinese grocer near Fort Hamilton Parkway in Brooklyn. Apparently they had a grand opening today.

This dual level bento box cost $6, which at Anime Next, one with Totoro on it cost $18, and a plain one at a Japanese grocer cost $13.

All these bottles of ramune cost as much as 1 does at Anime Next. And at least I got a vast option of flavors rather than the default kind. Also a box of pocky (which I didn’t buy) was $1.25

This 3 layer dumpling steamer was $6. I dunno what they normally cost but I’d imagine more than that.

This is just damn handy to have. I don’t even know if you can get one at Bed Bath & Beyond for this price ($3)

So lesson of the day is, don’t buy Japanese goods from Japanese stores or anime conventions. Made in China ftw! (Except when you buy toothpaste.)

I have a bento boxes with Hello Kitty that cost $48. I love them. But these prices are good. But I don’t think I could handle being in “Brooklyn” to buy them. Did you get shot at?

Oh man, had I known about these Chocolate coronets being availabel in NYC, I would’ve stock a ton of them and expect to make a huge profit during AnimeNext.

    Missed opportunities. Sigh…

Heh, I love how people overrate items like these. My rents sell things like the fancy bento boxes at our chinese gift shop, and I never saw what was so cool about them. Sigh….weaboos….

Chocolate Cornet, huh? I’ve never had one but I’d assume that they would be different from the ones in Japan. Idk, like quality-wise or something.

lol, my Japanese fob friend said that Hichews in America taste different from the ones in Japan. I think that this is bs though…

    Chocolate Cornet?

Did someone screwed up making croissant with chocolate filling by putting the wrong dough and not remembered how a croissant looks like?

Maybe you should take some cup ramen to a convention and offer to sell it for $3.00 each.
