Summer Firsts: Zombies, School Girls, Doujinshi, Swimming + Electromagnetic Waves

Published by Hinano at 9:00 pm under First Impressions

So I decided to actually do some first impression posts so that people at least will know WHAT I’m watching and what I may or may not blog in the future. Summer season almost seems as spectacular as the spring one, if not better.

Zombie Loan 01 - I’m still having a bit of trouble getting used to the animation style but similarly to Ghost Hunt I got hooked on this series. Or maybe it’s the morbid interest in the fact that the opening theme is sung by a band called “The Birthday”. It’s the story of a girl who when taking off her glasses, can tell if a person is near death. She then meets 2 bishies (A & B whose actual names I forgot) who have these “rings” on their necks which are a sign of them being near dead…except they ARE dead..they are zombies..who have a loan (with their local life bank) to pay in order to get these “rings” off..which my guess will make them “alive” again. Naturally our heroine is this loser whose parents think of her as a nuisance (if they’re even her real parents which I think they are not) and her friends just use her as their personal slave. I’ll give it another episode or two before I decide whether to continue blogging it.

School Days 01 - So I thought they were gonna totally water this down since it’s no longer a hentai game with bad endings…but I have a feeling the animation team gave us hints when Sekai was thrown againt the fence and in the end when she landed a big one on Makoto’s lips. I have a creepy feeling this is gonna be like last year’s Higurashi - you think it’s all fun and games until someone’s head flies off. Will definitely be blogging this officially starting next week.

Umisho 01 - I had no idea what this show is gonna be about but I did hear it had fanservice. Boy did it have fanservice! The art reminds me a bit of stuff by the guy who did “Nanaka 6/17″ but turns out it’s actually another mangaka. Anyway the premise consists of a guy who is a swim team captain/coach whatever because he can’t swim due to a childhood trauma of being pulled underwater by a mermaid. It turns out this mermaid is a super genki green haired (why are all green haired girls super genki?) Amuro comes to his school in a giant floating house all the way from Okinawa. (It’s beyond me why her dad is the typical dark skinned guy while she’s as white as…well me.) Also I’m annoyed at seeing them totally abuse the blush feature. I mean the only way you can now tell if someone is REALLY blushing is if the blush extends across their face rather than just a slight one on the cheeks. Despite all the boobs, panties, butts, nudity etc the show made (And JP) laugh so I’ll probably be watching this on a weekly basis. Also the opening theme is great!

Doujin Work 01 - So I didn’t realize this was one of those 13 minute/episode shows. Sorta reminds me of how Hit wo Nerae was set up. The Osana Najimi is such a ridiculous pun I totaly “Harrr”ed when Justice stopped by (what a name btw) and went “this is my OSANANAJIMI, NAJIMI!” HARRRRRRRRRRRRSfhkajfhskjhfkj. I feel that I have to watch this show though…cause sitting behind that table selling doujinshi is going to be me this coming Saturday at Anime Next. None of the characters are really likeable to me though, especially that blonde loli. God do I hate loli’s with older men complexes. Also the dancing bloomers amuse me.

CODE E 01 I didn’t realize there was 1 more Tuesday show I needed to check out. (Woosh Tuesday is starting to remind me of the Thursdays last fall!) The show plot is about a girl who when she gets nervous, any electric things nearby basically black out, but if she gets excited they light up full power! And then she meets (or rather he stalks her) a guy who is a big electronics nerd and loves all things having to do with wires and circuit breakers. So naturally he scares the crap out of her (and blacks out half the school) by asking her to “go out with him” because he has interest “in her body”. I’m getting major vibes from Misutenaide! Daisy and the whole old fashioned animation style is only confirming this matter. Will check out next week but not sure if it’ll be anything I’d like to continue watching.

There’s a couple dramas that have aired that I’ve been checking out. LIFE was one of them but it was too freaky and I stopped where the girl began chopping off her hair. I’m still downloading Hanakimi and I plan to check out the freaky friday edition of Papa to Nanokakan.

Sadly, not to do with your post (haven’t started watching any of these yet), but I wanted to get in contact with you about a proposal regarding podcasting. Toss me an e-mail if possible?

    hidoshi@gmail.com is my primary. Thanks!

Woa! Umisho’s a big surprise. Looks like a mix of Seto no Hanayome and Girls Bravo to a degree (i.e. lead guy with a major phobia + a harem, the lead girl has a lot to do with that phobia or will kinda ruffle him up with it). Seto no Hanayome didn’t really click for me (I guess I found it a bit too violent for my taste, with the Yakuza and all) so I’ll give this one a shot.

I got to see Misutenaide! Daisy before (”Don’t Leave Me Alone Daisy” if I’m not mistaken) and to be honest I thought it was sick. I hope Code E will be a bit better.

Of course I really wanna see how School Days will go.

By the way, what exactly is the racket with Osana Najimi (pardon my asking, I’m not too familiar with Japanese puns :P)?

None of the anime look outstanding so far. I’m still waiting for dramas to get subbed.

of these the only one I didn’t have much interest in was Code-E…and that still remains the same. Can’t wait to see doujin work and school days though!

    Sailor> Osananajimi = childhood friend XD;

Mazza> Looking at your blog you seem like the kind of person who likes more dramas than animes anyway XD That’s how I was in like 2004-2005. Now I’m kinda getting back into the anime thing and mixing in some dramas.

Danny> Code-E was probably the biggest disappointment to me.

I just started blogging with my friends because we had too much time on our hands. The blog is like 1 week old LOL.

:O who’s childhood friend is she? (the white haired geezer!?)

    Sorry couldn’t help myself :P

Oh and just wondering what exactly lead to that hugging session (above screenshot) in Umisho? I also saw on another blog a shot where that same purple haired girl had a large chunk of the front of her blouse and swimsuit ripped off such that she could barely cover herself with her bare hands, and I’m trying to imagine what led to that :D. Is she gonna be the butt of those jokes or something?

PS. Finally saw Umisho myself. I still can’t believe the ripped swimsuit was caused by a SHARK! (and when it was being offered as a gift by Amuro XD)

The Music in School Days have repeatedly hinted of dark and turbulent future, so chance of ‘bad end’ is rather high. That said, the anime series did not control the pacing and the dialogs between Sekai and Makoto good enough to maintain the suspense and shock that was present in the game’s animated scenes. It is understandable for they had to cut the time to half of what was in the game, but still, I remember the shock and surprising sadness in the Sekai’s kiss in the game, which made me watch other animated sequences from the game, which was available in some Korean websites.

I can’t pick what anime to watch this season… nothing really grabs my interest so I’ll have to wait and see how they turn out I guess. :\
Papa to Musume no Nanokakan episode one was good, it might turn out to be the Hanayome to Papa of this season- a comedy about a dysfunctional father & daughter, lol. That’s the only one I’ve seen so far but screencaps of Hanakimi look good..

I watched Hanayome to Papa cause it was funny and cause of Junno & Satomi-chan….unless the actors are worthy I don’t feel like going through de ja vu again

If School Days instead of going with stupidity as in “Gift” goes with what we usually see “Yuri angst” its a step in the right direction.
