Proposal Daisakusen - 11 (Finale)

Published by Hinano at 10:16 pm under Proposal Daisakusen

Yay I really liked the drama ending! XD Ok so it wasn’t a hug and kiss kinda end but it still was somewhat satisfying. I actually though thought that the fairy man was actually a “future” persona of Ken but I guess he really was just…a fairy. Or was he? o.O So in case you missed last week, Ken basically grabbed Rei’s hand and took off with her from the ceremony. They ran all the way to their old elementary school and then went into their former classroom where they first met. They had a little trip through memory lane and how if Rei had not sat next to Ken, they may not have become friends like they are now.

Afterwards they go out to the playground. There they remember how when Rei did that flip on the pole she sprained her elbow and got a lifelong scar - after which chibi Ken said he’d “take care of her” for the rest of his life. He then starts to remember and realize how back then he could be so honest but now he can’t tell her his feelings. When Rei suggests they go back (I love how she totally went along with all of this XD), Ken does that flip swing that he did when they were kids. When they come back to the ceremony, Ken goes into a room by himself and takes a self photo to return to the present. At that time also Eri gave Rei a ring she found on the Don’t Knock New York statue saying that Rei is making a mistake with the wedding.

When Ken is back in the present he is back to the time right before his speech to Rei and Tada. While Mikio and Tsuru go back inside Ken says he’ll finish his cigarette and come back. The fairy man appears and explains that “Since you wanted to change the PRESENT rather than trying to change the PAST here you are now”. Ken had decided that it’s better to change things now rather than go back and try to patch up what was done. The fairy man wishes him luck and gives him a manly hug before disappearing.

When Ken goes back inside, he gives his speech. This time it’s different. He first congratulates them and says how Rei’s dream of becoming a bride has come true. However after a short silence pause, he goes to say that while he feels this is rude to Tada-san, he thought that Rei would have ended up with him. He goes to say that he’s known Rei for 14 years and was always there for her and felt that for the rest of his life he would continue to do so. He felt that there is no one who could care for her more than himself and then says he loved Rei and still loves her.

He then goes to say despite all this, Rei will marry Tada-san. He then walks out of the room in tears leaving a crying Rei as well. He walks over to the church area where there’s all the benches and sits and cries. In the meantime, the slide show starts and as Rei looks through all the photos, she recalls all the moments where Ken went back into the past to change things. Meaning that him going back DID make an impact on her and as she sees more photos she cries realizing that it’s not Ken who wasn’t honest, but it was herself. Tada realizes this and asks her to go into a room alone with him where he basically tells her that her face reminds him of the face she had before she ran that night of her 20th birthday - to confess her feelings to Ken.

He gives her an option to pick a button from his hand. If she picks it she has go to Ken, otherwise he’ll give up and stop prodding her about it. She picks the one with the button - which we later find out he had one in each hand. Poor guy willingly gave her up. She runs to Ken but is too late because he jumps in a taxi headed to god knows where. She goes back to church, where fairy man appears and gives her some words of courage and tells her a story about a man who wanted to change his past because he had regrets in the present. He tells her it’s not too late and she runs out of the church.

At this point the credits roll and after them we see Ken pushing the taxi because it ran outta gas. He hears his name called by Rei but this time as “Kenzo” rather than “Ken”. He turns around I guess to see her and smiles. I wonder if she ran in that huge dress all the way after him, I thought she’d maybe at least catch a taxi. How did she even know where he was lol o_O;; SO yea that’s the part that left me all confused but I guess the point is “she chose Ken hooray!” I still woulda liked to see more but maybe it’s one of those “stop making Johnny’s boys kiss girls or we’ll lose our fangirl base” things. Anyway overall I really enjoyed this drama. While it got repetitive in some parts, in the last few eps everything worked out really well bringing a satisfying conclusion.

Oh and the theme song is still on my loop ;)

I also just finished watching the episode. It is a relief, finally!

I think they will be making an episode for future release, say, the end of year? Just like theyh ave done to quite a few series.

Thank you for posts. I have always enjoyed your writing.

I loved the ending because it didn’t make either of the guys look like a jerk, haha… They both gave it their all and in the end Tada really is a really nice guy :)
And maybe from now on Rei and Ken can be honest with each other!

Nice drama, and a both predictable and unpredictable ending. :D

Yea I really felt bad for Tada but on the other hand I didn’t feel that him and Rei were a good match anyway. Besides everybody knows that in Japan the childhood friends relationship is unbeatable. XD (Except for the adopted sister, that usually is the only thing to defeat it)

Great drama. I had this weird feeling the entire show, well actually more like once i found out Tada and Ken were friends. I was like welllll I kinda get how its cool that Ken is trying to win back the girl of his dreams, but that also means he’s gonna steal her from his friend. WAIT WHAT>?! Oh that sucks, poor nice guy who is probably more fit for Rei than Ken even with the childhood friend thing. Oh well.

I had uber fun watching this, especially since it’s been like 4 months since I watched a drama. Thanks again for covering dramas!

I hope for a special too, especially because the ending screams like “Okay wait for a triple wedding in the special show” :P

Funny thing about the last ep was, I said to myself “If I’d be Tada I’d have one in each hand so she has to go after him”…

Anyway I liked the ending as the drama very much .. let’s hope for more

Tada is a very nice guy, but he and Rei wouldn’t be happy together. Married to a girl that doesn’t love you is pretty depressing.

I’m happy that it was a happy ending, but I wish the last scene was a little longer so that I know for sure that Ken and Rei were together at last. All I need is a little confirmation. A passionate kiss would be really nice but again, this is a PG 13 drama. A hug will be just fine.

There are two things that I’m confused about. First is the short guy and Eri. After Ken decided to go back to the present and confront his feelings, everything was like the beginning of the drama. So that means everything he did when he went back to relive the past did not change the present. So Eri and that short guy did not get together. All the pictures from the slideshow were the same as if Ken did not went back. So why did Rei, sitting at the front table watching the slide show at the end of the drama, having flashbacks of Ken confessing to her and running away from the restuarant ?

@Aniie … no those Pictures Rei sees are the changed ones. You can see her beeing “happy” on the slides. Remember in the beginning she was upset or sad in the pictures.

I just finished marathoning Daisakusen this weekend. I thought the ending was satisfying, if not a bit abrupt. I shed quite a few tears. At the top of my head I can think of the episode where Ken knew Rei’s grandfather was going to die and the episode where Ken gave up on going to the beach with everyone as being pretty touching. The only thing I didn’t like about the series was the cheezy hallelujah chance sequences. Everytime they played the hallelujah bgm I was just like Ken: “NOOOOOOOOOO!”

this drama was rather disappointing… there just wasn’t enough drama! the high point of the series was in ep 7 with hisashi’s confession. running off in ep 10 with the girl isn’t nearly as balsy. yamapi totally let me down.

I also just finished this series in 1 day… quite touching about the ending… i also hope that the ending is a bit more longer because i wanted to see that Ken and Rei together in the end of it… i like the bgm when Ken say, “Halleluyah, chance(chansu)…

Oo. I just finished this drama today. This episode made me cry– especially when he was giving the speech. The ending was sweet, I guess, but then again, I agree with some above. Where’s the proof to confirm us? :D

I thought this drama was okay– except a bit repetitive, and sometimes, so certain acting was a bit dull.

Oo. Btw, I just heard that there’s a DVD release 12th episode of ProDai. :D

  19. [...] special post. As we all had hoped, basically the special literally jumps right into where the last episode of the drama left off. The beginning of the special gives us flashbacks of what happened in case you missed it, [...]
