He basically barks a lot because my parents never pay attention to him. When I'm the only one around, I'll play with him for a couple minutes or feed him and I never have to deal with the barking. I have one (the yellow variety) and he's just as noisy (and likes to run about) when he's hungry or wants to play (which is quite often). Just as noisy is his daughter (a cross between a Labrador and a Basset Hound - she loves to scamper on top of their doghouse, and makes a lot of noise doing so). Tip: one thing that makes dogs quiet and really docile is a nice rubbing on the chest and tummy - most enjoy it (mine does, and will lie down when being petted). Is that dog a Labrador?
