Ok enough of this sky crap.

Published by Hinano at 7:35 pm under Sola

Alright I’ll admit that while this episode didn’t have overly annoying sky references…it had overly annoying childhood friend who I’ve seen in like 20 other series references. The fact that Yoritard’s a pansy has not changed, and the fact that Matsuri is still as dumb as a log has remained the same too. I know that being dumb as a log gives some guys a good long night’s fap but there’s only so much of this stupidity I can take. I’m not saying this is a god awful show (yes I am), but being a loong time anime watcher (what is it like 8 years now?) there’s just some things that I can look at and go “Didn’t I see this in ____ show like 2 years ago???” I guess this is bad for my blog because this just narrows down the list of shows I watched based on either “have I read the manga” or “does something interest me in this show that I haven’t seen 1000 times.” OH and this week there wasn’t an “exciting” action scene. Oh and Matsuri buying a bunch of Avocado Ramen only makes her look more like an idiot, it’s NOT MOE. (the hell with MOE, it was only funny back in the days of Rizelmine.)

Oh and in case you don’t get the point of this post…I am dropping this show.

Now tell us how you really feel… :P

I didn’t find this show that interesting; and I had to convert it from a MKV file to AVI so that alone was enough for me to avoid it in the second place.

Avocado Ramen? Ewww! I saw a Lime & Shrimp one this morning on a friends desk and almost launched into a seizure.

What about the second season of Saiunkoku Monogatari/彩雲国物語? It’s not cutesy, but it is entertaining to me.

Plus you’re rants are some of you’re most entertaining posts! :)

I never really got into Saiunkoku the first season so there’d be no reason to watch season 2 for me. I guess I’ll just stick to the shows I got now, at least it’ll give me more spare time to….uh look for jobs or something :P

LOL! I was really attracted to this series at first, from looking at the previews and honestly haven’t seen the show, but I have read so many bad reviews about it since it started. I don’t think I will be adding this one to my must-see list! I like Sainkouku Monogatari, but I’ve only watched like 15 episodes! I am way behind!

When you say MOE do you mean Master of Entertainment!? I love those guys!

darker than black, el cazador or claymore, take blogging one of those instead…

  6. Hinano UNITED STATESon 21 Apr 2007 at 9:54 am

LOL EL CAZADOR LOL. I have this utter hatred for all that is BeeTrain

Claymore/Darker aren’t my type of animes.

Gee, and I’m actually finding this more and more interesting, plus the scene towards the end when Matsuri was going to move out so as not to interrupt Yorito and Mana’s “date” (thinking the two were a couple) was cute.

  8. Hinano UNITED STATESon 21 Apr 2007 at 12:35 pm

Sailor> It’s just SO generic in my eyes, nothing makes it stand out….and I’m not really liking the characters that much….maybe thats why I’m not liking the show overall

Isn’t that a bit like saying that if you’ve seen one of Shakespeare’s comedies, you’ve seen them all? Well, that may be the case (http://www.reducedshakespeare.com/) but it doesn’t make Love’s Labours Lost any less appealing than Twelfth Night.

I like this kind of romantic dramedy. As long as it’s done with quality and taste, I’ll continue watching. These themes are revisited often because they’re so successful.

Repetition becomes a problem when writers merely imitate past popularity for the sake of being popular; and without understanding. Or doing something not because it’s demanded by the story, but only because it’s what you’re “supposed” to do.

Of course, that may be exactly how you feel about Sola. In which case ‘de gustibus’ and all that.

That pretty much summarizes how I feel about this show :P Nagasarete Airantou is a reused theme, but the goofy faces + the fact that I read the manga helps me enjoy it…I have no “background” for this show and nothing else makes it stand out (aside from the short action scenes which weren’t enough to hold me out on more than 3 episodes)

Well to be honest, I think the entertainment industry today is already saturated with “original ideas” that it’s very hard to come up with something really “new” (as opposed to the old days when the industry was still young). Imho, Hollywood has it worst, hence I no longer watch Hollywood made movies (their problem - they’re relying too much on flash and flair instead of storyline to sell their merchandise). At least anime makers are still using the best element - storyline - to sell their products, and I do get sold on them. And also, I think because of this, stuff like Fanfiction is very rampant (admittedly, I enjoy reading it, and when I have the time, I also make some of my own).

Hinano, you’ve got some of the funniest reactions (the RxJ condom one was pervertedly good, too) :) Actually, seeing you trash sola makes me do a double take on why I actually like the show. I guess if I wasn’t such a vampires fan-boy I wouldn’t be watching this in the first place. Matsuri has a very nice voice, it’s too bad she never actually says anything interesting.

Saiunkoku becomes more and more boring the further you watch, but how about giving Kaze no Stigma a try? It’s strangely addicting. It’s got its share of stock characters, from the tsundere chick with sword to the childhood side-kicks, but the male lead is confident and some of the interactions are interesting. Although, the plot isn’t necessarily something to write home about either.

I watched Kaze no Stigma and as yo usaid, the stock characters I just couldn’t handle anymore. The main guy makes me wanna slap him as well as the main girl. It was so awful I didn’t even bother ranting about it. It’s like complaining about a piece of 4 month old stale bread

You should watch episode 5 onwards: WAY MORE INTERESTING

  15. Jc100 SINGAPOREon 17 Jun 2007 at 3:58 pm

Agrees with Saku-pu(sorry for the late post). Did a marathon of sola; the first few episodes we dull and uninteresting, but the last few (3-4?) was manufactured emotion, typical of what I dub ‘hollywood’ anime (first third is fun and laughter, second is a crisis, last part is the resolving of the crisis).

Good decision! I also tried this anime in the past… But the fact that I had to wait a week for such disappointing episodes just… Made me realize it wasn’t worth it. I personally thought it had potential to be a cute story, but in the end I hated everything about it…
Well, except the cute character design for the little girl. That was about it though. Which isn’t actually enough to watch something.
