Lovely Complex - 02
Wow this show
is rushing through the manga like sonic the hedgehog. The entire Atsushi’s ex/Christmas live arc was squashed in a short 24 minutes. I mean I know the manga is over 14 volumes but how long is this show supposed to be? I don’t mind the fast pace as long as they don’t then try to waste time on extra episodes with random fillers because they rushed through the actual story too quickly. All this is doing is making the series hard to keep up with because they’re so busy rushing through plot details that there isn’t enough time for character development, other than Atsushi and Risa.
Risa’s friends are telling her that she should just get with Atsushi because they have so much in common. They even like the same musical band “Umi-Bouzu” and that band is having a concert on Christmas eve. Even though they both wanna go badly, they don’t want to go together. Her friends also suggest she go see Atsushi play basketball after school. She notices that he has quite a fanclub of girls who think he’s cute because I guess he’s short. She even attempts to go to a gokkon but she feels like all the guys there are from a zoo, but then she herself thinks she’s a giraffe too.
One day they run into Atsushi’s ex-girlfriend. Risa is shocked that he had one because she herself has never had a boyfriend. She thinks that maybe his ex is trying to give him a 2nd chance, because as Risa found out, his ex dumped him for a taller guy. She even invites Atsushi to a Christmas party with all their old basketball team friends from middle school. Risa tells him he should go to that party and that she’ll go to the Umi-Bouzu concert on her own.
She tries to get her friends to hang out with her before the concert, but they’re all to busy doing raburabu stuff with their boyfriends. She goes alone and then while near a Christmas tree someone pushes her over and she falls and scrapes her knee. She’s upset and hurt that she’s all alone and just a “third wheel” to all her friends, but then suddenly Atsushi comes running. He tells her that he agreed to go with her to the concert first, so they both end up going together. I coulda sworn he carried her on his back in the manga. Oh and after the concert, Risa’s child hood friend comes outta nowhere and glomps her.
Upcoming Attractions: Well this week we had a girl from Atsushi’s past, now we have a guy from Risa’s past who has a mad crush on her (or maybe just idolizes her as his hero.)

[...] Now that I’m at volume 9 of the manga I can once again safely say my view of the anime has been tainted by my knowledge of what has happened and what is going to happen. Even then, this episode went by really fast and the main feeling I got after whole thing was whoa. A short summary after the break, those who watched this would probably need it anyway. [...]
The leads who played Risa and Atsushi were very well done. But things are meant to be exaggerated–read the manga, that’s how the Lovely Complex world works. Besides, this movie wasn’t meant to awe and amaze, but to entertain and touch.
They sang the Kamisama Kazoku ED during the karaoke scene!!! AWESOME!
