Hanayome to Papa - 01
While the anime
season is looking bleak, the drama season looks as fruitful as ever! So with my first drama of the season I begin with the Japanese version of “Father of the Bride“. Even the ending credits feature an Engrishy version of “My Girl”. The story deals with a 20 year old girl, who has finally entered the workforce, but her father just can’t seem to let go. Our heroine Aiko (played by Satomi-chan) has had her dad hanging on her shoulder since she was in kindergarten. Because of this she had to follow strict rules like being home by 6 and not ever having a boyfriend.
Aside from being a naggy dad and irritated daughter drama, this also deals with the difficulties of entry level work. (Been there done that!) The job Aiko starts, she also starts with another new guy, Seiji (played by Taguchi Junnosuke from KAT-TUN). The job she works at is a big fashion design company so the “ladies” working there are total snobby bitches and the supervisor isn’t exactly giving her the warmest welcome after her dad shows up and gives everyone daifuku. Things go from bad to worse when she spills coffee on one of the girls and accidentally insults the CEO of the company who comes back from his business trip.
She goes and buys herself new clothes and a cell phone because she wants to fit in more since she got made fun of for having a shitty wardrobe. There’s a kids clothing line fashion show coming up and so everyone is going to the reception party. The CEO actually invites both Aiko and Seiji to go since she “went out and bought new clothes” after all. At the party, the girls dump on her the duty to help take care of the kids in the kiddy room. She sees one of them staring out the window and offers to play catch with him. However, in the process he gets his clothes dirty…and he just so happens to be the lead model and the son of the man who designed the wardrobe.
Things go from bad to worse when Aiko’s dad shows up once again and yells at the guy saying that kids SHOULD get dirty because they play since clothes can be washed but childhood will never come back. Aiko explains that the kid is a model and he’s wearing $200+ dollar clothing. The father feels like an idiot and bows his head in apology. Before leaving, the kid (Tsutomu) tells Aiko “thanks” for playing catch with him because his father said “There’s no need for him to play catch.” At home, Aiko finds out that her father gave the CEO a resignation letter from her that “hey you’d probably be fired anyway!” She’s angry and shocked and he says “you have to do what I say until you are married!” She angrily tells him that she’s gonna get married and get out of this house.
Upcoming Attractions: Seiji proposes to Aiko! XD

What other JDramas will you cover this season? My gf and I are planning to watch Sexy Voice and Robo, which is based on a manga. My gf’s a big fan of Kenichi Matsuyama after seeing in the Death Note movies (he was L).
Then to spite her Dad, Aiko gets knocked up by Seiji. And has to live the rest of her natural life with the horrible horrible psychological consequences of her deed.
LOL you know I’d love to see that except they’d never let a Johnny’s idol do anything erotic. It gives fangirls heart attacks
wrex> I actually watched sexy voice & robo and it just didn’t draw me in. It looks interesting but it’s just not my type of drama. I’m more into the OL or Romance type things XD (hence why I liked Sapuri lol)
This looks good! I wonder if anyone will sub it–I hope so!
where can i find the eps? I think Junnoskue is really kewl and it’s good that he’’s doing a drama this year
Thanks for the summary. I always liked Father of the Bride and I might pick this up (Even if it’s just for Junno
