Kamichama Karin - 01
I was pleasantly surprised
at how great the anime adaptation is of Koge Donbo’s manga. For those who have not read the manga you’re gonna either like it, hate it, or think it’s a Card Captor Sakura ripoff. Rest assure it is not, and nobody’s collecting any cards (or feathers.) Those who were confused at the beginning, it basically (and this surprised me too) took a bunch of scenes from Kamichama Karin CHU! which is the sequel manga to Kamichama Karin. The boy with the red pants doesn’t appear until the 2nd story and the little thing in a bunny suit is (highlight for spoiler) Karin and Kazune’s son from the future.
The story is about Karin, who lives with her grandmother (cold and ignorant one if I may add) and then one day her only friend in life, Shi-chan (her cat) dies. She’s very sad and while she is visiting his grave, a blonde bishie comes over to her and makes fun of her causing her to punch him in the face. Anyway in school she’s upset about the cat and her classmates tell her that she should get a new one. She’s so upset later that she accidentally bumps into a bishoujo and when she helps her pick up all her stuff, the bishoujo, whose name is Himeka gives her a set of 2 hair scrunchies to wear.
Himeka tells Karin that she also has no parents and is currently living with her cousin Kazune…who’s the blonde bishie that Karin punched the other night. Karin finds out that Kazune & Himeka are looking for a “god” but she has no idea what they’re talking about and then runs off when Kazune demands to see the ring on her finger. The ring reacts and the next day gives Karin supernatural powers and she acts maturely, gets good grades and impresses all her friends with talent she’s never had before. That night Himeka stops by to give Karin her bag that she left at school.
Himeka tells Karin that they came to this town for “business” but now that it’s “Settled” they are leaving again. Karin is sad but offers to walk her off. She sees Kazune there and as usual there’s tension but Kazune appologizes and tells her to forget about him because he doesn’t want to “interfere” with her life anymore…as to him it appears she is not the person they were looking for. Later Karin is at Shi-chan’s grave again, and a man in glasses comes up to her telling her that “I’ve found you, kami-sama” in which at this point we see her ring light up again.
It’s really hard for me to summarize this story without blurting out major spoilers haha but I’ll do my best. I really liked the animation which looked like it was done by the same guys who did Tiny Fairy Snow Sugar. That’s a good thing because I think I woulda cried if the animation was done by the same team who did Pita Ten. I think the beginning future jump into the 2nd series was really throwing things off but hopefully they’ll manage to fill out the story nicely without putting in any pointless fillers (like Pita Ten) and without cutting anything out (MORE SPOILERS a la drunk Kazune kissing Karin <3) I also really like the voice cast...Karin is voiced by Nakahara Mai, which also voices Nagisa in Clannad so I'm getting major dejavu since I'm currently playing that. (And for non-Clannad fans, she voices Rena in Higurashi so I hope for an USO DA! somewhere along the way).
Upcoming Attractions: Karin’s first transformation - and hopefully the return of Shi-chan!

Actually, animation this time is done by Satelight, which is -not- responsible for any previous Koge-Donbo animated work. Sugar was animated by JC Staff. (The animator of PitaTen slips my mind at the moment.)
It’s gonna be some of the cutest animation if Satelight can mention this. I have my cute fix for this series for sure ^^
What other series did this Satelight do? The animation is wonderful!
Satelight also did Galaxy Angel Rune.
The studio that did Pita-Ten is Madhouse.
Koge-Donbo is death by cute regardless of studio though.

I’m very pleased with the first episode, and also surprised to see that they have included some parts of Kamichama Karin-chu as some sort of flashbacks. Perhaps Karin has the power to foresee the future (unfortunately I don’t have the manga to compare with the anime version) and the producers are going to adapt both mangas in a 52+ episode series.
As far as the music goes, ALI PROJECT’s opening is superb *¬*. The ending theme is quite well too. Koge Dongo FTW!
In regards of the fansubbed episode by Hikari no Kiseki, a superb work as always ^_^. I love Dragosmore-san translations :).
i luv kamichama karin i hav #’s 1 - 6 i really cant wait 4 the 7 i really hope its a happy ending… i weally hope karin and kazun kun go together at the end… lets all hope 4 the best ^_^

So i just finished reading th MANGA and i didn’t even know that there was a ANIME! WOW!
I wuv Kamichama Karin! But wasn’t it her auntie that she lived with? >.w

[...] Anyways, I’m just going to post some quick thoughts I have on this show. As expected, I found this Koge Donbo manga-turned anime really cute and sweet~! ^-^ It puts you in a happy mood I would say~ Not as sweet and sugary as Little Snow Fairy Sugar, and has a little “dark” side (like Princess Tutu, though I don’t think it’ll get that dark :3) which adds to its charm and makes it all the more interesting. I found the little blonde-haired chibi-chan with Karin really really cute~! *glomps* XD And it was through Hinano’s blog that I found who this little fellow is, and it made me want to see more of Kamichama Karin. Seeing the anime made me even want to read the manga from start to finish (+the Kamichama Karin Chu series). And despite the fact that I will surely watch this, I don’t think it’s in a point where I’ll patiently wait for its release every week >.< I want to watch it when it’s already complete [...]
