Well, that was an awful prediction.

Published by Hinano at 9:48 pm under Rants & Raves

The last 2 days have been giving me a headache because I bought myself a new laptop, and it comes with Vista. Now here I am, running Win2K-tan and Vista expects me to take all my 2k programs, throw them out and get everything completely new and upgraded. Bastardly woman. Does anyone have Vista-tan reference images? I feel an oekaki rage coming on. But at least my laptop runs 20 times faster than my current desktop…so perhaps my AMV making habit will be revived. (Plan to submit the BEEP amv to Otakon 2007’s AMV contest!) That aside, I’m surprisingly disappointed with what the spring season has to offer thus far. Going back to my spring season “picks” post I realize more and more of my “picks” are getting thrown out of the pile.

So although you probably got the idea from my previous posts here’s a short rundown of what I currently tossed out and why (warning this is MY OPINION and for all I know these shows may tickle YOUR fancy):

Kono Aozora ni Yakuzoku wo: This is like any other eroge adaptation, but it has nothing to make it STICK OUT of the niche. So basically it’s like Happiness! without Watarase Jun. (and magic) They also picked possibly the most annoying voice cast to ever roam the eroge adaptation world.

Touka Getten: If you liked the nonsense and flowing petals of Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora, you might actually enjoy this show. Oh and it also has a trap who I guess decides not to be a trap and then makes out with some girl in the end. Nothing in this show made sense, some guy got stuff coming outta his eye like Inuyasha and this one chick with big boobs who got shot, was somehow alive and had an annoying voice.

Seto no Hanayome: I hate Magikano, but I digress. I usually like shows with slapstick (like Hayate, Inukami) but if its nothing BUT slapstick with no coherent story I can’t take it. Maybe my brain isn’t as empty as it used to be, to be able to watch these kinds of shows…but after they meet the Yakuza dad who yells every 5 seconds and some random shit happening every 5 seconds I start to forget what I’m watching and why I was watching it.

Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann: Don’t hate me Gainax fanboys, but this goes into my Gainax fail list. The main reason is they decided to take FLCL, combine it with Abenobashi and sprinkle a little of “hole drilling”. The goofy fanservice really made me wonder why this is a morning show. “Hey kids today we show you how to fall into a girl’s tits!”

HitoHira: Too much of girl x girl interaction. Enough said. I also didn’t find the main character likeable…in fact all I saw in front of me was “Gosh what a poor paranoid child. She needs to see a therapist asap!”

Shinkyoku Polyphonica: Why is it that the game art is so pretty (as shown in the ending credits) but the animation looks like it was pulled outta someone’s butt? I’m getting vibes back from Mamotte Lollipop of how crappy animated this show is. It doesn’t feel very deep, and seems like another harem/tsundere thing but just add in some piano playing and the tsundere transforming into a milf and this is what you get. Maybe if the animation was nicer I might have given this another episode.

Kaibutsu Oujo: Uhh wtf? Slave / master eh? Sorry not interested. I only like it when the girl likes the guys as more than an assistant to kill things. And what’s with the ending? For a moment there I thought I was stuck in “Back that ass up”. Oh and Hiro’s sister has huge tits but I like the random loli who speaks only 1 word like Chubacca but can carry objects over 1 ton.

Kaze no Stigma: This is so generic I couldn’t stand it. Oh and the girl is annoying and I think they’re all related and it’s one of those Japanese family feuds which I hate. So yea skipping this one. Gonzo phails again.

Pre-episode 6 kyousora? Or the lame excuse for an anime (minus chikaneXhimeko) it became at the end? The former is likable ^^ The latter causes nightmares D=

Kono Aozora being compared to Happiness also makes me rethink picking it up.

And =O at not watching StrikerS.

Eh, I wasn’t really too interested in following any of those shows, so I guess you’re only strengthening my resolve. Thanks.

I don’t know about you but Kono Aozora ni Yakuzoku wo looks interesting to me, especially the fact that the lead male is actually standing up to the ill-tempered girl and not taking crap from her (something normally unheard of in a harem anime). Seto no Hanayome does seem like nonsense for now, but I’m keeping it on my watchlist. HitoHira: looks to me like what Tsuykiss ~Cool Sweet~ should have been, and is definitely on my watchlist.

There’s only one version of Vista-tan I’ve seen since Vista came out. I have no idea if its the “official” version or not. There’s two forms, an adult one and a loli one. Maybe it’s suppose to represent aero or something.

i guess its been the opposite for me, im loving this new season!

Demian: Is that the official one? I’ve been seeing this one that ha like tan skin and gray hair tied up in a ponytail and wearing a red seerafuku. I’m soo confused @_@

Sailor: The only thing it has in common with tsuyokiss is acting! XD The girls are like totally on the opposite ends of the spectrum. I was’t too fond of Tsuyokiss though :S

Shirukii: Uhh my boyfriend is watching StrikerS! I never liked Nanoha from the start…I thought it was a Sailormoon ripoff the moment episode 1 of season 1 came out..so I never got on that bandwagon.

LOL, I wish I could have had the wit to say the things you said about Seto no Hanayome and Gurren Lagann. I’ll probably still watch Seto no Hanayome for the developments of the love rivalry though.

I’ve seen several variants of Vista-tan, including a proposed group of 4 to represent the 4 versions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate)

That one pointed out by Demian is “Home Basic”.

    More OS-tans here http://ostan-collections.net/imeeji/index.php

Interesting, I guess I’d have to draw the HOme premium one assuming thats the gray haired one

So it is “stuck in” the “niche”, eh.

Regarding Vista, I can’t wait until I can buy the student version for US$10.

It’s okay I guess. I can’t compare it to XP as the only time I’ve used XP was at work. I really liked my Win2K so having to update everything and its grandma is a pain but I guess this is the world’s way of saying “get with the times!”

So it seems you’re going to Otakon for sure, huh? We should make crazy plans again! Remember how crazy we got last time?!

  13. Hinano UNITED STATESon 04 Apr 2007 at 6:05 pm

Yea JP will be with me…although I think I’ll spend some time sitting in the art alley and making some mooneys

You stuck with Win2K all this time!? I’m wondering how you got by with all those vulnerabilities etc abound (tried Win2K on my PC as a testbed, but gaming was a pain; hence my jump to WinXP once SP1 was out). Vista will also wait at least until SP1 is out.

Well … I read some Hanayome and Hayate and I am sorry to say that Hanayome is doing well being the adaptation as Hayate somewhat seems very off to me … I have a VERY bad feeling over that anime.

I only read Hanayome to the 2nd volume and its not that random.

Whats wrong with Win2k? XD I rather like it!

  17. Sailor Enlil PHILIPPINESon 05 Apr 2007 at 1:47 am

I used to be a SysAd for Win2k (Pro and Server). As a corporate OS it’s fine (and I loved it as a Server OS; the Compaq Proliant webserver I once administered was always a nice puppy to take care of), but for personal/entertainment purposes (especially gaming), I ran into lots of problems (especially with device drivers, at least during the early days). WinXP was overall much friendlier, and seemed to have less maintainance issues (for Win2k and Win98, reinstallation of the whole OS on a regular basis, at least once a year, was a must; haven’t had to do that with WinXP except during a major hardware change/upgrade).

I’d stick with 2k. Before I’ve got my new laptop (which came with uber-weird MediaCenter: XP Pro EN + SP2 + MCE + Polish MUI pack) I have used Windows 2k Server and it was allright (except for some sheduling of multimedia, but it was a server build after all). Also, you don’t have to reinstall any NT, as long as you take proper care of them. Those are not DOS-strap-on like Win98, Sailor Enlil :P

The only problem is that some software (especially from M$) will complain about not having XP. There are also parts lacking (Only because M$ didn’t want them available for 2k as well), but for standard use it’s all right.

Vista doesn’t bring anything really new (I’ve been using Ultimate x64) and compatibility… well… there are problems :D
