Sumomomo Momomo - 22 (Finale)

Published by Hinano at 8:40 pm under Sumomomo momomo

I know WTF right? So yea it seems this really was the final episode. They really skipped around and shortened the big climax which disappoints me because they coulda gotten rid of the idiotic filler episodes and maybe stretched this whole thing out instead. I prefer story over fillers unless fillers are good, but in this case the fillers sucked and this really puts a damper on my ending of the series. For those who do not know, the manga is still going but after the manga there’s just a small arc with a reverse trap that ends in the April issue so I guess that’s why they ran short of story to animate.

So once again Koushi tries to reason with a stupid budouka and only gets his law book torn to shreds. As usual Momoko protects him, but this guy’s like super saiyan muscly beefy strong guy (and he has blonde hair to add to the combo) and he’s a bit of a challenge for her. He knocks her down and when Koushi thinks that it’s the end for him, she gets up one more time to protect him. However, she then passes out because the sun is setting and the poison effect is increasing.

So here’s the weird part. Tenga goes and gives Koushi/Momoko the poison medicine…however there’s only 1 dosage and so they have to decide who gets it. In the manga, the tiger family had this leader guy who was this old erojiji. He was really funny and kept like grabbing TenTen boob’s and peeking up her skirt etc…and he was the one who gave them the medicine. So it’s very strange to see Tenga being all nice and giving it to them and being like “you decide who will live as a budouka.” Soo anyway Momoko’s poison effect seems to be faster than Koushi’s so he gives the medicine to her.

Momoko then wakes up, sees a dead looking Koushi, and with her anger slices up a mountain and defeats Tenga. However in the midst of it, we saw Koushi’s budouka spirit awaken which helped Momoko win. This hasn’t been developed in the manga but I’m thinking it will lead to something important later on. Anyway afterwards everyone goes back to their apartment, Koushi’s back in school. Momoko in the meantime went off to train in the mountains. When she comes back she tells Koushi about how he shouldn’t give her such “sad” kisses (referring to him “kissing the medicine into her mouth”) but he tells her that he just poured the vial into her mouth…so that’s just her sad misunderstanding.

And the burning question that probably everyone is still dying to know:

Also I don’t know why they didn’t blur naked Momoko in the beginning, but blurred it in the end during the sponsor thing. So yea final thoughts? Read the manga I suppose. It didn’t have stupid fillers (with naked old babas), and the whole tiger family arc was better developed rather than chopped up like this. The first half of the show definitely cracked me up and I enjoyed it…it just seems to have kinda fallen apart near the end. Couldn’t they just get creative and GIVE Momoko a break for once. *sigh*

Oh great! Another series that could have been good but they messed it up in the end. I’ve not completed the series yet but I’m not sure I want to now.

I will probably complete it anyways.

I can’t find volume 6 of the manga; I guess I might actually have to buy it >.>

Hehe, again, not having read the manga first, I enjoyed this final episode. It made sense that Tenga gave the antidote to them because he wanted them a strong opponent to challenge him… though making them choose one didn’t make sense either… unless he just wanted to torment them.

Seeing Koushi’s budouka spirit awaken for a flash was cool. The funniest part was after the fight when Iroha said in celebration, “Now let’s go back to our decrepit apartments!” ^0^

And yeah, why’d they blur out Momoko? Maybe they didn’t want to cause trouble for the sponsor.

So the lesson we can learn from this is: watch the anime first, then read the manga later; you’ll enjoy both much better. ^_^

Oh no, don’t tell me this is another “Canvas 2″ ending? (that other series started off and was going good, but the last episode made the whole thing all apart)

I think the main contributing factor to the fall apart is that it ends on a strange # like 22

Why did Square Enix decided to pull the plug on the series and ending it on 22 episodes instead of 24? Many people think Sumomomo Momomo felt like a cheap imitation of Ranma 1/2 and some other series that fall under the former. Full Metal Alchemist is still going on in the manga and so is Sumomomo Momomo. Makes me wonder if it is ever going to be licensed.
