Tokimeki Memorial ~Harem Battles~ - 22

Published by Hinano at 9:20 pm under Tokimeki Memorial

So in this episode Riku’s harem finally clashes in the ultimate battle to win his heart….too bad Sayuri is already in the lead for the winner’s circle. As we discovered last week, Riku’s parents are away for New Years leaving him all alone. Unfortunately for Riku, his haremettes all know about this and they all have the exact same thought: Let’s visit Riku because he’s all alone in his house and perhaps I can cheer him up! The atmosphere gets heavy when all of them realize that it’s a fierce battle of the estrogen armies.

Tsukasa noticed that Mina brought over a bag of ingredients (to of course cook Riku a dinner full of love) and so she suggested that they all go cook something. Tsukasa being the mood maker invites Sayuri to join them. Naturally Miss Perfect Sayuri is excellent at cooking while Mina is afraid to even cut up an already dead fish. They make an amazing dinner (again thanks to Sayuri) and afterwards they all play video games.

Sayuri of course has no interest and she reads a book until Mood Maker Tsukasa invites her once again to play. Sayuri kicks her ass (even though she claims its her first time playing) and then Tsukasa insists Riku or Mina play with her again because she easily defeats them. In the meantime, Sayuri offers to get another video game from Riku’s room. Naturally, that’s only an excuse to get INTO his room. While she’s there she’s too busy blushing and looking at everything…including his cell phone…whose number she doesn’t have.

Suddenly everyone bursts into the room because obviously Mina and Tsukasa wanted to see Riku’s room as well. They also discover the mess he stuffed into his closet. Within the mess they find badminton rackets, and play badminton outside while Riku does all the dishes. After Sayuri loses, she leaves Mina and Tsukasa to play, and in the meantime takes the lead to be alone with Riku while “helping him do the dishes.” Sayuri 3, Mina/Tsukasa 2. They end up staring into each others eyes, and then she’s like “Ano..!” I assume she wanted to ask him about his phone number but then Riku saw an upset/angry Mina and Tsukasa standing there going “It’s time to have a battle of the cleaners!”

After Mina/Tsukasa made things worse (because obviously nobody is perfect like Sayuri), Riku suggested that they all go to the shrine and get their New Year’s fortune as well as do their prayers. Obviously during the shrine scene Riku and Sayuri are all staring at each other/blushing etc. Other stuff during the episode showed that the Otaku guy bought a crapload of stuff during his New Year’s. The Yakuza Chick’s been randomly walking around and bitching about the cold in his scarf and the other classmates/teachers are shown in their kimonos.

Upcoming Attractions: Sayuri has a present for Riku or something.

What’s up with the Japanese and all the blushing–especially the girls? It’s like they’re freaking tomatoes. I swear, if you’re a good-looking, NICE guy, you’d better not move around too much while in Japan; otherwise all of the girls’ heads will bleed from every orifice, due to the blood rush. And I’ve always thought Japan was an open, “been-there-done-that” society, but apparently not; they’re easily embarrassed at even the slightest thing. Seriously, I think it’s a medical condition that warrants immediate attention.

    P.S.
I kid. But it would make an interesting topic to poke fun at.

I think it’s just part of their whole fake modesty thing.

If they went beyond blushing the harem would break up prematurely. If you had characters like some typical American OC types–not ashamed of anything–a harem would never form in the first place–and its all about the harem.

Sayuri wins some points with cooking and videogames… but she still ultimately loses out to both Ayame and Mina in my book. ;)

@heavenorhell7: I think it’s time to refer to Law of Anime #40
    http://www.cs.utah.edu/~duongsaa/more_htm/jk_100animeRules.htm

I stopped following this months ago because there has been no progress. At first I thought maybe the quirkiness could save it, but no…

Sayuri already won the very moment generic anime guy set his eyes on her. The others are just temporary distractions.

Wererat42> Thanks so much, I really needed that laugh (though it was a long read). Anime now makes sense. I applaud you my friend.

Admittedly I agree with you XxYurimayaxX. Sakura is a hottie (kinda like Satsuki from Ichigo 100% or Miki from Suzuka). Still, all roads lead to the destined one - Sayuri.

Two words: Valentine’s Chocolate (It’s Valentine’s fever next episode, and you know what that means)

Hinano: What did Doujima (the big muscular guy) said to Riku when Doujima was giving an one-arm chokehold on Riku’s head?

My internal monologue at the heavy-atmosphere scene:

“Ah-ha! You’re finally going to get what’s coming to you, you triple-timing bitch! (bitch is a gender-neutral term). Out come the boxcutters!”

    How’s the job search going?

    Wererat> well said

Eleu> I’m just doin a temp job right now. I’ve stopped searching until the assignment ends…mainly because I get experience as covering for an HR Manager :P And that’s way better than any “permanent” lame HR Assistant job I can land right now.

Sailor> Ah Valentine’s Day….oh boy :P Here comes the generic VDay episode slap in the face

Hello? Anyone could answer my question that I left from about 2 responses ago?

Oh woops. I think he was just babbling something about “how dare you go out and have fun while we were stuck being dragged around with this otaku”

    OK, Thanks, Hinano!:D
