Jumping on the Spring bandwagon.
Remember when we were all oogling over Ouran last year? ^_^
Also known as I have time to kill before my job interview (hooray!) The probability of me actually blogging/watching these series beyond episode 1 is slim to none for most and I’m just going by pretty pictures or what I actually know of the story. (Or if I read the manga etc.) I remember for the fall I made a similar post and half the shows I thought I’d be watching, I ended up NOT watching. (Remember me and my I WILL WATCH NEGIMA NO MATTER WHAT - then dropping the damn thing after episode 7.)
Anyway on with the show.
Remember this isn’t the full list. Just a list of shows that caught my eye.
Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo - Also known as “The promise under the blue sky”. Even if I didn’t see the official site the title screams “I AM AN EROGE!” From the tagline of the “story” page it looks like “they made a promise on that day”. Probably another one of those childhood promise harems. Oh well if the animation isn’t as awful as Yoake Mae then this could be a doable show. (Oh and if the harem girls arent as irritating as the cast of Gift Eternal Rainbow.)
Touka Getten - This looks like Kyoushiro meets Yoake Mae. Is that purple haired thing a man or a woman? He sure has defined pectorals if it’s a guy. I bet he even has a deep voice that goes “Koi. Isshouni.” 
Ｉ didn’t even see it on Moonphase and the kanji for Tou I couldn’t even find. Looks like something to do with the moon hence why the Yoake thing came up. From grasping the kanji I could on the story page it looks like some old Japan love story. O well the art looks pretty…and as long as the purple haired “thing” is a guy, I’m game.
Kaze no Stigma - Stigma of the wind. This looks as promising as Mamoru-kun did but has the potential to fail if they start filling episodes with random nonsense. Also the site mentioned a webcomig about a “Firey Tsundere high school girl” so something tells me that girl’s angry look and red hair are a sign…of Mamoru-kun de ja vu.
Lucky Star - WTF? No seriously wtf is this? An anime based on a 4-koma? ?_? Is this gonna be like DokiDoki School Hours or that one stupid ass show “Pugyuru” or whatever it was called? And out of all studios it’s being animated by KyoAni? Don’t they have better things to animate (like Season 2 of Haruhi?) I’m gonna have to give them the benfit of the doubt and check this out but I’m not expecting anything coherent.
Rabukon ~ Lovely Complex - So about 4 months ago someone posted volumes 1-13 on Tokyo Toshokan and said it was a cute romance manga so I downloaded it. Yes it was cute, yes it was romance and yes it was generic. It’s the typical story of 2 childhood friends who would NEVER see each other in a romantic way but because they are “unique” in their own way, no one cares to see them in a romantic way either…so they have nothing to do but go for each other. And as usual there are interferences such as “oh but he won’t like me, we’re just friends!” and “oh no his ex-girlfriend” or “oh no my OTHER child hood friend who wants me but is a big pansy” etc. I wouldn’t expect anything out of the ordinary and surprising but it’s cute. The quirk is that the girl is really tall and the guy’s a midget. Oh well love can happen anywhere.
Romeo & Juliet - If you couldn’t get enough of Leonardo DiCaprio and Drew Barrymore (or was it Claire Daines? damn that was long ago) you can now watch it in animated form. I’m morbidly curious to see this all of us have been forced to read this book some point of our junior high school lives. However it could be just as bad as Les Miserables and try too hard to be like the original story even though clearly it’s anime. I dunno I’ll give it a go, maybe Juliet will have like super ass kicking shoujo powers. Now that will be hot!
Shinkyouku Soukai Polyphonica - New Music World Polyphonica….hahahahha…wait let me finish laughing hahahahahaa Ok this looks like yet another Eroge adaptation or maybe a novel adaptation with eroge-like art?! It’s like that band anime that came out last fall except it looks like its not based on an Otome game this time. LOL this could be really fun to..make fun of or could just be so godawful you can’t make it past the first 5 minutes (a la Rabudoll.)
Nagasarete Airantou - Drifted away to “Island” island. (Har har Airan Island). Do we have 1 male? Yes. Do we have more than 5 females? Yes. Do we have pointless antics, fanservice and no storyline? Yes. Do we have 4 volumes of it collecting dust on my bookshelf? Yes. Are we buying more? NO! God forbid. Ok well the anime might be okay for all I know but after the 4th volume of the same crap with the “main harem gal” getting nowhere with the guy I kinda gave up. This is sorta like Vandread because none of the girls seem to have any grasp on what the male species is or be “embarrassed” in front of them - when they’re not wearing any clothes. (Except that one.)
Kaibutsu Oujo - Monster Princess. Hmm. Where have I seen THIS theme before? The site doesn’t even look half ready so I don’t really know much except the main guy’s name is “hiro”. How original. It’s probably gonna be a story about this lonely evil princess and then comes this random guy to take her heart. Zero no Tsukaima anyone?
Sola - Yes you read that right. Not SORA but SOLA. The most Engrishy title I’ve seen yet LOL. The title is supposed to be “sky” and in the story it talks about a boy who “loved the sky”. Come on Japan, this is terrible! XD I didn’t understand any of the story really cause my kanji sucks but I did see something about “when they were young”, “dolls” and “goth loli”. Lol is this based on another Eroge? It better not be Yuri and crap but all lights are green for some sort of a harem. Oh and there’s a lot of lolis. Impz will be pleased.
Kamichama Karin - (rather than Kami-sama) So this is the show I’m looking forward to the most. Because of this manga, Koge Donbo signed my Pita Ten manga writing it out “To Maria” in Katakana. Cause everyone else at Otakon at the time only knew Digi Charat and Pita Ten. Hooray for me! So naturally this is like #1 on my blogging priority list. The story is pretty generic though, girl discovers she has magical powers and falls in love with a tsundere-boy. XD There’s a sequel manga out now so that’s good stuff as well. Oh and there’s a reverse trap here too…and possibly boys kissing lawl. (Not shounenai/yaoi though.)
Seto no Hanayome - Channel Bride? Whhat? I don’t get it. The logo has a mermaid, does that mean she’s a mermaid by night, fighting budouka by day? Not sure what this is about. Not even gonna bother trying to figure out the kanji on the story page but I like the character designs so will give it a go. Although from the looks of it I expect some little girl to be like “ONEESAMA!” and Yuri ensues. Oh well let’s hope the latter doesn’t happen. (Although most fanboys would care to disagree.)
Hayate no Gotoku - Everyone calls this Hayate the Combat Butler but I thought the title means something “Hayate’s 5 Virtues” or something. Well anyway it looks like it has butlers, fighting and lolis. This is a sure hit for the spring season! I’ll give it a shot though, as it seems everyone’s hyping it up but I hope it won’t disappoint and be incredibly pointless antics of (insert loli show here.)
Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann - Breaking through the Tengen Era, Gren Lagan?? What a stupid name lol. Ok well the last Gainax show I watched was “He Is My Master” so I’m looking forward to something new from them. The whole premise reminds me of Abenobashi and if it’s as good as Abeno this will definitely be a top show for me in the spring season. then again it could also flop like This Ugly & Beautiful world. (What a crappy show that was.)
HitoHira - I’m confused on what this show’s about. From the story it appears this girl loses her voice and can only talk on certain occasions?? Is this another Yuri show? I don’t see any possible “romance interests” and the only guys are either “mood makers” or “see her as an older sister”. The character designs look really cute though. I’m hoping something good to come out of this…as it’s like the first show of the “spring roll” to come out.
Keitai Shoujo - So after doing some research it turns out this is based on an eroge (? Not sure if this is ero yet I just started playing lol.) The basic story appears to be, this guy named Aida Hiro, downloads a “phone girl” on his cell phone named Rin, and she says that unless he gets a girlfriend by Christmas….she along with his new expensive cell phone (oh noes!) will be destroyed! So since Hiro doesn’t wanna lose all the money he spent on that phone, he’s now on a mission to get some booty.
And as a note, although I have no interest in it, does Skullman make anyone think of “Ghostrider: The ANIME!”

Man, I was just thinking about doing a spring post and I thought I would he ahead this time. And you sneaked in there and wrote one. Oh well, I had no clue what was coming out anyways.

I think Seto no Hanayome has some potential–from the scanlations I’ve read it’s pretty funny. The basic story is San-chan is a mermaid from a family of yakuza mermaids–as the story begins, her mermaid nature gets discovered by the protagonist, and her father promptly decides to kill him as a result. She saves his life by agreeing to marry him (if he’s family, then it’s OK if he knows her secret), she ends up moving in with his family, but her father, her chibi best friend, and other yakuza are still trying to kill him anyway. It probably doesn’t sound that great from reading this, but somehow it just works–it doesn’t rely on fanservice like a lot of similar manga, the male lead’s not a complete wuss and is loyal to San, the comedy and SD facial expressions are pretty funny, and if it’s well executed, I could see this ending up my favorite spring series. I guess we’ll see soon…
Heh. I totally agree with you on ‘This Ugly and Beautiful World.’ That was when I knew Gainax had, despite some good stuff since like Diebuster, pretty much jumped the shark. At least their failures in the past were interesting failures…
On the other hand if the Abenobashi team is working on Gurren-Laggen at least it ought to be riotously funny. Here’s hoping!

The subtitle to hayate no gotoku is “hayate the combat butler”.
Except for Hayate and maybe Lucky Star (since nobody paid attention to Haruhi and look what KyoAni did with that), the rest look like meh.
If I feel depressed when finishing up my thesis on japanese war crimes, I’ll check out one, or two, or three of the harem/eroge animes…

You could be right LUcky Star could turn out to be great just because of what KyoAni does to it as they have not disappointed me yet (with the exception of FMP the 2nd raid just because I really hate war/army types of shows and I was expecting something in the likes of Fumoffu)
Speaking of Gunbuster, I’ve seen both the first series and the second one. I enjoyed both of them but I liked the second one the best.
I predict that Lucky Star will turn out to be pretty huge, if purely for the fact that the main character is a giant otaku geek with the addition of boobs.
So the main character is a Fujoshi? O_o
Hmm, im wondering, in the way will the Haruhi’s episode procedures go along when Haruhi 2 comes out. Will it be like before or will it actually be, i don’t know, sequential?
No she’s not a Fujoshi; she just really likes H-games. For some reason. I’m actually expecting Lucky Star will be pretty good. Since you mentioned it, I think SHnY season 2 was announced for the coming Fall.
Ugly Yet Beautiful World was sooooooo disappointing. I only watched two or three episodes of it and now I can’t get as excited about a new Gainax show as I would like to be.
Other things I’m keeping an eye on: Bokurano, Dennou Coil, Moonlight Mile (or is that already out?), STRIKERS, and maybe Lovely Complex depending on who is doing it…oh, looks like it’s TOEI, so maybe not.
Being son of an English literature professor means that I am duty bound to watch the Romeo and Juliet, at least the first 3 episode. Although I despair at cheezy dress and revolution theme, their use of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Overture does give me slim hope that it might turn out ok, but why do I keep smelling ‘Glass Fleet’? Well, maybe they will use Te quiero by Mario Benedetti / Alberto Favero and ease my pain a little.

Seto no Hanayome rings a tone to me… wasn’t a manga about local Yakuza-like family of merfolk who protect their secret with killing everybody who knows it… until one boy falls in love with daughter of the clan head and somehow manages to stay alive…

Now here I am, running Win2K-tan and Vista expects me to take all my 2k programs, throw them out and get everything completely new and upgraded. Bastardly woman. Does anyone have Vista-tan reference images? I feel an oekaki rage coming on. But at least my laptop runs 20 times faster than my current desktop…so perhaps my AMV making habit will be revived. (Plan to submit the BEEP amv to Otakon 2007’s AMV contest!) That aside, I’m surprisingly disappointed with what the spring season has to offer thus far. Going back to my spring season “picks” post I realize more and more of my “picks” are getting thrown out of the pile. [...]
