Kanon - 22

Published by Hinano at 4:37 pm under Kanon

As much as I feel awful for Nayuki…I’m afraid she’s not gonna be the final gal like some people have hoped. Otherwise I doubt Yuuichi woulda run outta the house when he remembered Ayu, telling Jun to “take care of Nayuki”. :/

The Ayu falling off the tree was actually in the TOEI version as well. I think they handled it in a good way so plus points for them. However, KyoAni’s scene was better since it involved actually “showing” Yuuichi witness her falling as opposed to just being a “recollection of the past”.

And heyyyy Makoto came back! I don’t think she was supposed to came back but I really did miss her ;_; She’s like my 2nd favorite after Ayu ^^;. And I liked how the headband thing was played into the story here. I wonder what they’ll do with the end? TOEI’s headband in hospital was great. I hope KyoAni tops that. And man what a nasty place for a cliffhanger with a not-so-spoilerish preview!

Upcoming Attractions: The Ayu monologues.

I swear KA must have got sued for their brutality towards Sayuri, no blood at wat’s left of accident scene, no blood at AyuAyu’s “death”….. OTZ
    as oppose to last time for Akiko’s accident, is this blood censor really neccessary this time O__o;

KA has successfully dropped my jaws for the 4th time in a row… Makoto returns, dont get me wrong, im happy but i still cant help but to burst out “USODA!!!!!” ( ゚Д゚)ノ

Watching Nayuki’s scene is absolutely painful & heart tearing even for a non-Nayuki fan like me….

  2. Hinano UNITED STATESon 01 Mar 2007 at 7:17 pm

There was blood at Ayu’s death..when he lifted up her hand it was like red below.

LOL yea when Makoto came back I was like “whaaa?” XD

  3. Nightingale UNITED STATESon 01 Mar 2007 at 8:17 pm

yea, Makoto’s counterattack had just caused world wide chaos on the many anime dedicated forums i visit XD

note: gawd i must be blind not noticing the red… OTZ

lol, somehow watching ‘The Great Happiness Space’>geass and kanon in a row… lol my japanese felt kinda like not that good =_=

it was like 60~70% understanding for the whole thing =/

i guess last episodes are always kinda hard to understand. lots to explain, cos they spent too much time on fillers =/
(kanon might not be the case heh)

  5. berz BRAZILon 01 Mar 2007 at 9:01 pm

oh yeah heauheau totally forgot about commenting kanon heheheh

nice ep though i need to understand a few pieces. its also clear that there’ll be no nayuki ending too *sob*

good to see makoto again and she being able to talk was really a good ’service’ from KA heh

what rly impressed me twice in this ep is that the scene from ayu falling(red background+tree) and the preview reminded me: ‘wow, amazing animation! WOW! i wasn’t paying attention to those details until the very end! OTZ!!”

well, let’s wait for the final miracles… or better saying. good wait for you guys =(

i’ll only watch the last (is it the last episode? the name says ‘finalle’) ep only after arriving elsewhere =/
*like only 1 month or so *sob*

btw, that headband scene was a dream? cos there’s no way he could’ve given her that since he dropped that thing on his way to see her dying.(wait.. dying? i think i’ve heard coma @_@)

  7. Hinano UNITED STATESon 01 Mar 2007 at 9:43 pm

berz> I figured its part of the whole “Ayu’s spiritcoming back” thing. LIke she “came back to see Yuuichi” and like she promised she had the headband on.

impz> XD my kanon posts are not that spoilery hehe

    SPOILERS

Ayu isn’t dead. She just went into a coma after falling off the tree.

    @ Tim
To U1, Ayu’s as good as dead.

    SPOILERS FOR TOEI’S ENDING AHEAD!!!

You know, when I originally saw Toei’s Kanon I actually wanted Ayu to stay dead. Part of it was because I was expecting a sad ending and it didn’t feel right for her to come back because it made the poignant scene of her saying good bye to Yuichi before she disappears pointless. It also made me feel like Yuichi just got what he wanted without really deserving it. I really hated the way he was just going to leave the city and run up and then things just magically worked out for him.

This time around however I actually want Ayu to live. I like Yuichi a lot more in this version. I feel like he has suffered enough this time, he did deserve a happy ending. Although if he sets off to leave town next week he will lose some major points. But still Kyoto Animation actually made me like Ayu even though I never liked her before. So yeah, come back Ayu!!!

    GAME SPOILER

    > Otherwise I doubt Yuuichi woulda run outta the house when he remembered Ayu, telling Jun to “take care of Nayuki”. :/

Not really, since in the game, Nayuki shutted out Yuuichi like she did here and Yuuichi never succeeded in getting to even talk to Nayuki, let alone getting her out the room, which lead to Yuuichi recording his very touching confession message on Nayuki’s alarm clock (Kyoani setup the message recording already last episode) and left it in front of Nayuki’s room, while he went back to the station bench and waited for Nayuki to come.

It’s still scaryingly faithful to the game script and it’s a wonder how Kyoani still manages to weave the two routes together.

  13. Hinano UNITED STATESon 02 Mar 2007 at 7:44 am

When did he do the clock recording thing? Did I miss something? O_o

  14. houkoholic JAPANon 02 Mar 2007 at 8:29 am

    > When did he do the clock recording thing? Did I miss something? O_o

He hasn’t, but in episode 21 on the way to school he talked to Nayuki about whether he could change the message on the alarm clock and Nayuki refused because she said it took her and Akiko a lot of effort to do it even though the message was short.

The conversation is pretty much planted to let the viewers know that Yuuichi is aware of the alarm clock being able to record voice messages, thus setting it up such that he will be using it. We should be well aware now that no conversation in Kyoani Kanon is there without reason. ;)

Also fwiw, Toei version had Nayuki recording a message on the clock to cheer up Yuuichi, which is completely different to the game script.

  15. Hinano UNITED STATESon 02 Mar 2007 at 1:02 pm

Ah ok. I remember that conversation now. Hm I still think Ayu will be the “final” gal. Popularity aside, I don’t think they wanna end the show on an incest note.

  16. Eleutheria UNITED STATESon 02 Mar 2007 at 2:36 pm

I watched this episode clad in an undershirt, with the window open and freezing rain outside.

Needless to say, when KyoAni hit the “let’s save money by having minutes of Yuuichi panting in a snowstorm”, I felt really, really cold.

  17. Hinano UNITED STATESon 02 Mar 2007 at 4:00 pm

now why were you doing that XD

  18. ラルフ UNITED STATESon 02 Mar 2007 at 9:22 pm

It seems certain that they are going with the Ayu end. I feel so sorry for Nayuki. My heart aches every time I open the avi file to watch Kanon.

“I don’t think they wanna end the show on an incest note.”

Why must you crush my dreams T_T

    Aside: Makoto cameo = love.

Yuuichi must get married with Akiko-san. And Nayuki shall call him Otou-san.

Ayu, Makoto, Mai, Shiori and the rest can be Yuuichi’s goddaughters! They can all play and feast at Minase’s residence.

This is my ideal Kanon ending. No angst, no sorrow, just plenty of merriment.

  21. SSHOTA FTW SINGAPOREon 03 Mar 2007 at 5:25 am

And there is nothing wrong with marrying cousins in many cultures. Such marital unions are legally valid and socially acceptable. If anything, it brought the families closer together.

Or Yuuichi can go with Nayuki. But Nayuki must tie up her hair in a pigtail! And learn to like the jam’s taste. Then she’s perfect.

  22. Hinano UNITED STATESon 03 Mar 2007 at 10:56 am

Whoa lol what’s the sudden inbound of incest fans

  23. Yyi SINGAPOREon 03 Mar 2007 at 11:45 am

Isn’t dating Ayu make U1 a necrophile, since Ayu’s technically a spirit. Does that mean that Kanon is encouraging necrophilia instead of incest? For me, I can’t seem to tell which is worse now, both seem equally messed up.

Anyone going for a Makoto ending since she’s back? It seems more morally appropriate than incest or necrophilia, and she did get married to U1.

  24. SamuraiOtaku UNITED STATESon 03 Mar 2007 at 4:49 pm

Yay Makoto’s back! I really missed her, well that was all that made me happy in this episode. the rest made me depressed for hours, laying on my bed looking at the ceiling thinking on how it could have been happier but wasnt. oh, and I love Ayu and Makoto the most!

  25. MoppyPuppy UNITED STATESon 04 Mar 2007 at 12:12 am

Kanon. Episode 23: The FINAL BATTLE.

Ok, maybe not the “battle” but its gonna be cool.
This is the time Yuuichi must…
uh… do something (I refuse to read your spoiler posts.) to save EVERYONE. Even when there already dead.

…On a seperate note, Nayuki, the one I’ve been focusing on for so long is gone. We’ve lost her it seems, in her current emotional state, in the show in general, everything. Theres nothing left. Her story is over and all we can hope for is the “caption” scenes that state where everyone ended up at the end of the show.

    F—!”

This episode was not as “wall punchingly good” as the last episode. And it definitely wasn’t as “wall punchingly good” as I thought it would be. I had my hands clenched when Yuuichi finally spoke to Nayuki, the fuse was lit, it burnt down, but there was no bang. F—.”

To Yuuichi; no matter what it takes… SAVE EVERYONE. “Make me want to punch a hole in my wall, or two if you can.”

  26. MoppyPuppy UNITED STATESon 04 Mar 2007 at 12:28 am

    Second post. Sorry…

But theres more to be said, PLOT-WISE, I’d say the episode opened the whole Ayu story wide open, and now after seeing and understanding what got Yuuichi so upset, I dont feel as inclined to kick ‘7 year prior’ Yuuichi’s teeth in.

Not as inclined, but I’d probably still do so.

As for ME, I’m pretty sure I’ll pay more attention to people sitting alone on benches from now on. And if a friend is up a tree I’ll always be really tense.

Oh, and on a much more innapropriate note…

*Scene where Yuuichi exits the house*
    {Yuuichi bumps into Jun}
    Yuuichi: “Take care of Nayuki”
    Jun: -”He complies”-

    Bow-chika-wowow…

I’m sorry, but the thought entered my mind. …Only for a second.

As for people’s view of Kanon in itself, I dont see why people get so down over sad or heartbreaking events during recent episodes. I also dont see why people want it to be happier.

I too want a happy ENDING, but the internal heartbreaks and hardcore emotional backstories is why I love this show so much!!!!
Its what makes this show so GREAT!

This show would suck if everything was “happy sunshine” on every episode.
I dont even mind that every girl Yuuichi meets dies in some horrible way within two hours of inital verbal contact, or that everyone Nayuki loves is either leaving or dying or was never there to begin with.

    Thats what makes it fun!

  27. Drakron PORTUGALon 04 Mar 2007 at 6:22 pm

Ayu is in a coma for the past 7 years … in short, she have the mental age of a 8-9 years old girl.

If any wants a bit of realism that means she is going to have troubles to adjust, she is physically about 14-15 years old but her mind have not keep up, she will be always be missing 7 years.

Not so happy as a ending now is it?

  28. Haesslich CANADAon 04 Mar 2007 at 10:46 pm

Well, given the way Nayuki and Yuiichi abandoned one another, it looks like an Ayu ending for sure, as if KyoAni’s trying to make clear that a) they are NOT Sunrise and so won’t be showing an incestous relationship and b) that they can do like Toei, but better. ;)

But seriously, at this point those two (Nayuki and Yuiichi) don’t have any hope, not really - they never interacted enough in a way that would suggest any sort of romantic interest on Yuichi’s side… and at this stage, given how she’s shutting him out, he’s not likely to think about that, especially after remembering Ayu’s tragic fall. Which is, of course, why he’s slowly freezing to death on that hill before Makoto’s spirit finds him.

  29. MoppyPuppy UNITED STATESon 06 Mar 2007 at 4:30 pm

    What are you talking about?
Nayuki has basically tried everything to get close to Yuuichi, even as far as out right telling her feelings right to his face.

Thats where Yuuichi shot her down, and killed her.
Yuuichi, that snow bunny killing bastard.

    Nayuki didn’t abandon ANYBODY.

But unfortunately your right about the ‘current’ state of affairs between Yuuichi and Nayuki.
I’m not even entirely sure how Nayuki is supposed to come back from all of this.

But can you blame Nayuki really?
If Someone did all that to me and was so callous as to say “I’m with you.” I’d be pissed too!

Callous, I learned a new word after watching this episode! Its dramatic AND Educational!

I haven`t WRITTEN,i mean.I have loved Nayuki all the time since Oct`06.Don`t comprehend people who can dislike ANY of the girls in this anime. Not condemning any of those, though.

  32. Haesslich CANADAon 06 Mar 2007 at 9:11 pm

Moppy: At THIS point, she’s abandoned him and the chase - she seems to be blaming him, to some extent, for Akiko’s state, as well as herself for wanting that strawberry cake. Yes, Yuiichi was an ass in the past - but at the same time, she hasn’t really done much as of late, regarding making her feelings known to him… and being honest, with all the attention he’s been receiving, a simple statement would’ve been enough to at least get his attention back on her, if only for a few minutes. And now, with Akiko in the hospital, she’s given up on him and everyone else… so yes, she’s abandoned him, just as he abandoned her all those years back.

  33. MoppyPuppy UNITED STATESon 07 Mar 2007 at 11:17 pm

Hey, hey, saying Nayuki hasn’t done much lately based on the fact she hasn’t confessed her feelings a second time is stupid.
Why would Nayuki do that after what happened the LAST time?
Its like getting your hand burnt on a hot stove, pausing for a moment, and then placing your face on the same exact burner!

But otherwise I see where your coming from but I still dont think “abandon” is the correct word for what Nayuki is doing at the moment.
