Kanon - 21

All jokes aside, that was really depressing. I mean I knew it was coming but geez did KyoAni have to animate it SO detailed. Like geez they coulda added blood splattering and that would completed the guro effect. I also notice the theme of “car accidents” or “getting” hit by a car is common in many manga and anime. Is there some truth to this in Japan? Is Japan full of really shitty drivers or is the DMV in Japan so lenient that people drive cars without licenses and if they get caught the penalty is a couple yen?
Anyway I feel awful for Nayuki. If she wasn’t Yuuichi’s cousin, I’d probably pick her over Ayu. The whole incest thing is what makes me gag so that’s why I prefer Ayu. KyoAni’s Nayuki has won me over. I actually found her very annoying in the TOEI version but in this one I just wanna give her a hug. You poor poor gal.
Upcoming Attractions: Nayuki’s arc continues and perhaps the semi-conclusion to Ayu’s.

It’s already gruesome enough without the blood….. OTZ
Yea it was gruesome, but not “guro”
“in 1998 fatalities and injuries due to road accidents in Japan totalled 999,886″
The car crash scene was incredible. I guess because it was so anticipated, KyoAni wanted to ‘give it an extra boost’ for the fans (or something).
Just wondering, is there any more of Nayuki’s arc after the crushed snow bunny memory and Akiko’s car accident?
Someone mentioned where she shuts everyone out…it looks like that’s gonna be what next week is all about.
>KyoAni’s Nayuki has won me over. I actually found her very annoying in the TOEI version but in this one I just wanna give her a hug.
I liked TOEI’s Nayuki, but then again, it’s not hard to because there wasn’t much to pick from because other than her or Ayu everyone else got something like 1 1/2 episodes worth of development. Shame on me for forgetting that Kanon aired today, but the screens I’ve seen look great.
“in 1998 fatalities and injuries due to road accidents in Japan totalled 999,886″
OMG even if fatalities are like 5% it is still 20.000 people dead…
What really stucks/annoys me is that some ppl can even find this scene hilarious, and prefers Akiko-san being sent flying across the street…. I mean really, apparently they’ve nvr witness a real, gory life accident, not to mention experienced….
i m sad but also glad that i did not pick this series up sad cause KyoAni animation is topnotch glad cause if ever i was forced to watch this at one go i might be depressed for a month or longer ~__~;;
Who finds it hillarious?? @_@ Maybe theyre the kind who aren’t moved unless they see blood and they can’t “fathom” the idea that “yes she got hit by a car and yes she’s injured” rather than “this is an american cartoon where we can get anvils dropped on our heads and come out with stars or birdies flying above them”
well, there are Anime too where people survive being hit by dragon-slaying spells of doom capable of levelling cities… but anyway, I have been once hit by car, not pleasant thing, even though it was nothing serious.
Oh shit, the entire episode I was like, “deathflagdeathflagdeathflag”
..and they cut Nayuki’s ero scene.
At the end, the faint red shadow cast by the strawberry on the ice was… terrifyingly beautiful. (sorry no other way to put it)
Eleu> Is that where Yuuichi woulda hugged her CG?
@Hinano
Yea, in the original script they hugged during the night right b4 they receive news about the accident. Though its not exactly the study gathering as shown in KA’s version, the timing + location are right. Which was pretty ironic too as they thought Akiko-san was OTing at work….
This type of thing happens a lot, not just in japan. There’s tons of car accidents in the US except you’re just lucky enough to not have loved ones or friends be involved in them. Three people in my high school died from separate car accidents and another was hit while riding her bike and would have prob died if she wasn’t wearing a helmet.
I think the reason car accidents are used so often is because they’re random, and often. Too bad this entire episode put me to sleep until the end, and then probably killed off my favorite character. What a pos.
Well, lets look at this from other perspective, we have now pretty much a key to whole “wonder” thing. It is up to Yuichi now, how he uses the last of 3 wishes. It is probably at this moment in the game when ending is decided, right?
Also lol-ed at Nayuki getting sleepy during homework (with bouncing you-know-what and all), and at Yuichi being woken by her.
If they kill Akiko, I am gonna send kill team to KyoAni and burn studio, execute the crew, mindwipe witessess…
The car crash freaked me OUT. I mean, I knew something was going to happen, but, just the way they did it, wow. God, I hope she’s not dead. D: Poor Nayuki.
i felt miserable after watching this episode, though not because of the car accident. Instead, it was the way nayuki got ‘rejected’ in the flashback that broke my heart ;_;
So now we can shut-up the anti-Nayuki fanboys and accept the fact that Nayuki will be the symbolism of “sad girl in snow”. :V
I’ve seen several accidents like this happen over the years, many really gruesome (skull split open, brain flying splat into the windshield) and i believe that one shown in this episode is very survivable. remember, she wasn’t directly hit by the first car, the second car absorbed a lot of the momentum before sliding into Akiko.
BTW i have watched the Toei version and this fact in no way biases MHO
oh well, if it had some blood, hmm would it become more terrifying than that scene from kgne?
oh well, lets think this way: no blood = just something broke off :~~
but she wont die!
edit: hinano, can you glue up both posts? or its ok to leave like that? my bad for using emotes with that part that messes up with posts =(
here goes the rest XD
”
btw, killer ep @_@, the sibling stuff really kills most of the chances of the long gone nayuki ending =(
if we never had any fat tayaki fangirl :~~~~
oh well just spilled milk or blood or whatever XD
i wont be watching the last episodes anyway =(
got updated on flight departure and stuff. saturday around 22h
really nice, i’ll be leaving with no chance to watch the last 2 eps of kanon, geass, dunno if busou renkin goes to 26 =/
i hope at least i find some theater screening byousoku 5cm :3″
That scene was extremely intense without the blood. Nayuki is awesome in the KyoAni version and so is her mom, it’s heartbreaking to see them both go through so much. I’m sure most moms can relate to Nayuki’s, the feeling a lonely home especially without a husband. Nayuki doesn’t annoy me as much as the other girls because she isn’t as moe. She still is a little bit but her cute persona allows me to view the good natured humanistic side instead of the annoying moe side. Nayuki’s face when she found out the truth was heartbreaking. That accident scene was very realistic. This was one of the best episode since the Mai arc.
Kanon has once again made me punch a hole in the wall to let off some of the emotional rage brought on by the hard-core drama of this episode.
Dear god… Nayuki’s mom got Wasted! And just after they pulled out flashback of Nayuki’s love confession to Yuuichi that was brutally shot down in the most hardcore intense fasion.
These two events combined put this episode right next to the drama level of Mai’s arc! I didn’t think it was possible!!!!
Theres so much more to be said about this episode!
And its extra fun for me as I’m new to Kanon and have absolutely no clue whats coming.
From now on, I’ll be super careful when driving in the snow. Knowing Akiko, if I was one of the drivers I’d probably kill myself.
I’m gonna make a second response as I find this episode so incredible.
Like not just in the events but how the creators portrayed it. What they could have done was have us watch Akiko die. And then get to Nayuki and Yuuichi.
But this was so much more artful.
They set you up with the Nayuki love confession flashback, thats gets your emotions going, then they have the teachers call Yuuichi and Nayuki to the hallway, so before they say anything your all: “something has happened” And you KNOW its big.
Then you solve that it has to involve Akiko, and just as you put it all togetherBAM!!!!!!!
I guess I just liked how Kyoto Animation put the events in anachronological order to let you solve and then watch.
Seriously, that car accident held nothing back except for the blood. I expected the cliche and mundane scene where the camera focuses on the car, and then cuts to the victims reaction, then cuts to black just before impact and lets your imagination handle the details.
But not this one, I’m watching, I see it happen and I throw my hands over my head as I say “OH SH**!!!!”
berz> Ayu’s not fat! she just wears a fat coat! XD Hey if you can jump on to an internet cafe you can always read people’s blogs about Kanon and Busou renkin
Chris> I didn’t really like the Mai arc. In fact thus far Makoto’s was probably my favorite. This probably comes in 2nd just because I’m biased to Ayu but I really do feel bad for Nayuki.
Moppy> wow you must have a lot of holes in your wall by now XD The Nayuki love confession followed by Yuuichi pretty much slapping away her feelings made me feel even worse for her. Actually I felt bad for Nayuki since episode 1 ^^; where she was all like “Usotsuki.”
All things considered, Nayuki really gets it worst, rejeceted harshly 7 years ago, and now, not even noticed by Yuichi on “love radar”. Lyrics of the opening song seem to fit her more nad more…
事故シーンあれは即死ですね・・・
Yeah… Kanon is basically tearing Nayuki apart, throwing her to the ground and kicking her teeth in.
I think what makes it so heartbreaking is the whole “Fight, Okay?” thing Nayuki always says.
Because thats basically all she does, and all shes been doing for about 7 years.
Always under bombardment from some emotional affliction.
Yet she still succeeds in every thing she undertakes, such as track or school in general, but in the end all she wants is Yuuichi.
Now, 7 years later shes emotionally getting the stuff beaten out of her, but she keeps going and never stops fighting, but later on the over abundance of problems and Yuuichi falling for just about EVERYONE else besides her, she was pretty much in dire straights as it was, and in her weakened state Kanon just gave her the “Your mom’s been involved in an Auto accident” Coup de grâce.
Sort of like a curb stomp to the head for poor Nayuki already struggling just to stay standing.
…Emotionally that is.
