I was also impressed that they were able to kiss with there eyes closed with such a height difference, but my disbelief is in the OFF position when I watch this show so its ok. And then they did that MATRIX 360 degree camera angle thing. Only no one was fighting. I may not be educated with the previous versions but to me, Ayu is not that big a deal. Also as far as I can tell she has no extra twist to her plotline that everyone else did except for the memory loss, but who doesn't in Kanon?. I hope she does though, First girl was a fox in multiple ways, Mai was a demon hunter, Shiori had and still has a terminal disease. Everybody has there problems I guess.
