Himitsu no Hanazono - 01

Published by Hinano at 8:50 pm under Himitsu no Hanazono

This is the other drama I decided to pick up. When I read the story premise on d-addicts wiki I had to watch it. Basically the premise is a magazine writer gets laid off and the first job her boss recommends her to is being an assistant of a “female” mangaka “Hanazono Yuriko”…but little does she know who this person really is. Please do not confuse this with the old 80s anime or the yuri manga; this drama is not based on either one. When I heard the opening for the drama I bounced up & down cause it happens to be Amuro Namie’s new single “Baby Don’t Cry”!! :D

So anyway our heroine Kayo who is 28 years old has spent the last 5 birthdays at work and she’s sick of working so she wants to quit to enjoy her life. She even goes as far as eating almost the whole birthday cake alone. The day she’s about to give her resignation letter, her boss tells the whole office that the magazine is closing and that basically they’re all getting laid off. Kayo hides her letter but then her boss walks her privately into her office and tells her she has already found another job for her. This is to be an assistant of a mangaka named Hanazono Yuriko.

When Kayo goes up to the huge building to meet her, she runs into an obnoxious butler. He scares her to the point where she almost runs away but then he scares her into staying. Anyway eventually she walks into the room where 2 of the guys are working on their manga. One of them (who I like to refer as the shota even though he’s 18) is sitting at the computer annoyed because the other guy who has crazy wild hair is bitching about a “style” for his manga heroine. He then sends Kayo to to stupid errands.

One of the errands is to try various dresses and send him photos so he can get “clothing” inspiration. She even has to ask the worker there to help her and at one point a dress she has on, won’t come off. She’s forced to walk out of the store with the stupid looking dress on outside with everyone staring at her. One guy she runs into when catching a taxi even says “Moe”. They even force her to buy groceries for her and there she runs into her old boss. She tries to ask her to help her unjam the zipper but she gets a phone call and runs off leaving poor Kayo stuck in the dress once again.

When she finally comes back to the “penthouse” of Hanazono Yuriko she finds out that they’ve been basically sending her on a wild goose chase. She throws the groceries and yells at how she came here to see Hanazono Yuriko and not waste time being made fun of by her assistants. They then tell her that the 4 (one is missing) of them, all brothers, are basically the pen name “Hanazono Yuriko”, the shoujo mangaka.

Kayo is shocked and tries to appologize and then they all leave and go to dinner leaving her alone in their house. By this time the butler guy’s escaped too. One of the guys comes back to record a show or something, and sees her in the dress sitting there. She eventually gives in and allows him to help her unjam the zipper in which he does successfully. She also says how she wants to just quit working as a writer but he then says he’s surprised she still hasn’t run away and he says that the 4 of them wish they could run away from this life but they can’t so they’re stuck here.

The shota, during dinner, says that he thinks that today is her birthday. The other guys all feel bad for treating her like crap so they make a little present and a birthday cake for her as well as singing Happy Birthday. The funniest part was when they were going “Happy Birthday dear….*dead silence* Happy Birthday to you!” She is so happy that she doesn’t open the present right away and says it’s the first time that anyone has cared about her birthday like this.

So she ends up working as a story writer for them I guess? They show her a typical day that the 4 of them work and who does what part of the manga. The manga itself uses that olldd shoujo style from like the 80s. (I think Ouran has parodied it a few times with the Lobelia girls.) She also comes back to the company and throws out her resignation letter. The “company” though is really just her and her boss at the office since she technically now has a “story” to write. Her boss gives her a belated birthday cake and she then tells her boss about what the “Hanazono sensei” (they asked her to keep their ID a secret) did for her birthday and opens the present that they gave her. Out of it flies out one of those party snakes and hits her boss in the face.

Upcoming Attractions: Kayo grows her own mangaka harem.

^^ Thanks for reviewing this. I watched the first episode and I think I’ll follow it once someone subs it (my Japanese skills are rather lacking o_o). It was so cute and funny!

I really liked the first episode :) and am desperately waiting for the second one to come out.

Another one I’m watching at the moment is Erai Tokoro ni Totsuide Shimatta! dunno if you’ve heard about it, it’s about a freelance journalist marrying into a very traditional family. It may not be as funny as Himitsu, but it’s pretty cute, and has its moments too.
Oh and the female lead is the teacher from Gokusen.

I’m so late in the replying but ahh, yes. I am so happy that this drama didn’t disappoint me at ALL in any way the first episode. I’ve been looking forward to it so to see that I couldn’t wait for the next ep (which is now out) to air. HECK YAS.

And plus, I think the intro is absolutely beautiful, rofl. W/ the song, which is amazing, I watch it cos it’s so pretty.
