Boku Dake no Idol - Drama Special
I saw this on D-Addicts and so
I decided to take a peek because it seemed funny. I’m very glad that I did because this 1 shot is definitely a great Christmas/New Years love comedy you might want to take a peek at. If you liked Densha Otoko then you will probably enjoy this because the theme is the same. Basically the story is about a fanboy who lives inside his fantasies with his favorite idol but in reality he just can’t get any girl to go out with him.
Meet our hero Akio. He came to Tokyo hoping there would be something there for him but all he ends up doing is working in an insect collectors store trying to keep everything clean and random kids from taking out all the beetles. This is probably the only part of this drama I didn’t like because I think insects are disgusting so when they zoomed in on their little legs moving it made me want to puke. Akio keeps imagining himself meeting with his favorite idol Mi-chan every night in the park. However, one day his store owners “niece” adds to his troubles by constantly picking on him.
She and her “uncle” are constantly on his case and making him work harder than he should. His co-worker is always late and so Akio is always doing most of the work. His coworker also has trouble NOT cheating on his girlfriend who has a rabid obsession with drinking milk. Actually throughout the whole drama there’s all these advertisements for JT, gyunyu.com and chintai or something which is an apartment search directory. At some points I had trouble telling whether it was part of the drama or a commercial @_@;. He even gets dragged to a gokon with his co-worker but his “girl” is a fat chick who keeps eating and burping and swayed by his fantasy of Mi-chan, he leaves.
For Christmas, Akio attends one of Mi-chan’s events and during the event she stops and stares up at where he is in the audience. He truly believes she’s looking at him so when he sees her walking outside after the event on her own he corners her and says that she needs to hide better “their” relationship. She of course has no idea wtf he’s talking about or who he is and yells at him to leave her alone and never bother her again. Akio is crushed and Sakurako (the manager’s daughter) who was seeing all this follows him home.
There she says that he’s been living in a fantasy all this time and proceeds to say that no one wants him because his room is plastered with posters of Mi-chan. Akio finally gets frustrated and starts tearing all her memorabilia off his walls. He then begins to cry saying that he knows that nobody wants him and that he thought he’d find something in Tokyo but he never did. He said he was happy basically hearing from this “idol” to “try your best” (which is what all idols say by default anyway.) He then crouches near his bed and mumbles how no one even looks at him, but suddenly he gets kissed by Sakurako and says “I’ve been looking at you.”
So from that day forth Sakurako & Akio keep sending each other secret notes that they stick under the glass bins with the insects. They make plans to celebrate New Year’s together and because all Love Hotels are booked, Sakurako says she wouldn’t mind spending it at his apartment. Akio then gets rid of all his fandom stuff and cleans up his apartment just for her. He then realizes he has no condoms and runs to the convenience store and gets a pack of magnums. (Why I don’t know ) His fanboy friends find him there and ask why he hasn’t been going to any fan events lately, he shows them the condoms and walks out of the store lol.
He then runs into Mi-chan and notices she’s crying. He tells her to “live in reality” and then says “ganbare” as she walks away. When he gets to work he finds out that his boss now knows about him and Sakurako and gets furious. Akio makes up a lie saying that he doesn’t love her, and just then he realizes she hears this and she says she hates him. Akio ends up spending New Years alone. He then is determined to appologize to Sakurako so he marches to her house with a boquet of roses.
However when he gets there, there’s a ton of papparazzi. He sees Sakurako and she says now’s not the time for it. So the twist is…Mi-chan was actually his bosses’s wife. Not only that, she lied about her age…saying she’s 24 when she’s actually 29. Mi-chan says that a certain person told her to live in reality which is why she decided to tell everyone the truth. Akio hears the words he told her and then suddenly proposes to Sakurako to marry him. Sakurako says she can’t because it turns out she is his bosses daughter not niece…making her Mi-chan’s 14 year old daughter as well. Akio is shocked and Sakurako says that even though she can’t marry him she will still be there for him….that is until she finds the pack of condoms under the marriage certificate and proceeds to beat the living shit out of Akio.
So anyway that was a silly drama but it was a great one shot. I definitely recommend you guys to check it out. Here’s some more screenshots in random order.

lol loved the “answer” to fanboy friends when asked about absence at events
yea
I loved all the reactions of when he shoved the condoms in their faces
I did like the twist that was revealed halfway through this SP (that the guy, was in fact, NOT going out with an idol. Rather it was all in his head) but those commercials incorproated into “Boku dake no idol” just about killed me! It was so obvious they had little funding to do this project that they had to resort to such an obvious ploy.
