Kanon - 14
So wow they totally went into detail about Sayuri. When I saw her brother I went “OOOOH NARUHODO!” regardin the scene of her and the little kid walking. I kept thinking the little kid was Yuuichi since it appears every girl knows him from “way back when” (except for Shiori because she sucks.) Also the scene where Sayuri was bloody and the facial expressions and stuff was like 247928347892 times better because of the huge chin-o-rama in the TOEI version.
So yea the Sayuri thing really had me going. It really helps develop Sayuri as a character rather than “The girl who randomly supports Mai and is her best friend for no reason what so ever.” I was always saying in the beginning how 24 episodes of Kanon would be wasted on stuff like eating Akiko’s jam and walking to school, but the length does help with details like this. I didn’t even know Sayuri HAD a brother until I saw this. (Then again this is what you get for playing Kanon when you could only read the kanji for “suki” and “ore”. :lol:)
Upcoming Attractions: Hopefully the conclusion to Mai’s arc.

-mai’s outburst was long past due but the verbosity was astonishing. The director must have thought the seiyuu needed to earn her keep instead of just pocketing her fee for “hachimitsu kuma-san”

I actually almost cried when watching this episode. So sad. Oh, the drama!
I seriously thought Sayuri died.

This episode is really brilliant, reminds me why Kyoto Animation is still the best.
I liked Sayuri’s speech about how the ‘canon’ is related to daily lives. It was especially touching when she said it at the end of her backstory. The facial expressions for this episode were awesome too.
Mai finally showed emotions! and with such ferocity/sadness!!! And Sayuri is much more fleshed out now she told her story…

this episode kind of bored me, hehe. I also thought the playground scene was way overdone, and the crying pretty much had no effect on me. OH GOD i’m heartless, right?
its only a cynic’s facade, right?
I just felt sorry for Sayuri’s brother, poor kid was always on the verge of tears…death was the only escape for him.

No…
Isn’t that the same wrist that was injured when that invisible demon back-handed Sayuri into the side of the wall during the dance festival?
No. That was her right wrist. The cut on the left wrist is from her suicidal tendencies when she was younger, having blamed herself for killing her brother.
Some of the finer details got left out in the anime adaptation.
